Troubleshooting / Re: ff7 android modding?
« on: 2018-05-04 14:48:49 »
Don't know if this is a great thing or bad thing... haha but the fact that square is very lazy with their ports and what not, they never remake or recreate their system.

The IOS and Android ports use the PC version. If you would like to install mods, everything is setup the same way. For IOS you would need to modify the .IPA file via 7zip. To save yourself the trouble from installation errors later on, I'd recommend just opening the .ipa via 7zip and paste/replace the .lgp files. You can change the movies also after re decoding the video file etc to match the original properties otherwise upon boot, the game will load the logo and then crash when the first video is played. The .exe file can be modified via hex editor or applied with the patches, however i haven't tested it in game, but editing doesn't crash at all. If you'd like to see if the modified .exe actually works, the fastest way is to replace the battle characters, ie changing original cloud to hi_res cloud.

The folder structuire to edit these are ff7.ipa>>Payload\FinalFantasy7.app\ff7_1.02 \data\ Also to mention, there is no kernel file so you can't simple drag and replace for the battle names (fire fira etc)

Android:
You'd have to edit the Obb file and to do so is the same steps as opening it up with 7zip.
The file structure is as follows: ff7.obb>>assets\ff7_1.02\data\

For external textures, you'd have to place it inside the lgp for it to work.

Though the only downside to the mods is that it can be very laggy, and heavy on the gpu depending on which device your running it on. Alternatively you can optimise it for mobile os by reducing the poly count of the models etc and lowering the texture resolution.

Cheers. Though i have a tendency of creating hi poly models. Force of bad habit. Been re scraping my work over and over which wasted a lot of time ha. So now I've only been reducing the poly's and trying to keep it simple and minimal. (which results better for ff7 anyway, with it's blocky and choppiness)  8)

Weeemus Models

Project

  • Simple/Minimal Low poly Models (Expect DS and Android/IOS remakes)
  • Recreating the Field models as Chibi's (loosely based on original)
  • Recreating Battle Models (loosely based on original)

Intro

It's been an awfully long time since I've been back on qhimm forums. No matter how busy or hectic my life gets, i find myself coming back to this lovely community. As a true ff7 fan, i can't escape that fact ha.

But what has triggered my sudden return, was when i saw the trailer of the new ff7 and also having downloaded ff7 on both my ipad and android phone. I'm a little conflicted. As a huge fan of ff7, our wishes for a remake has been granted (yay) however a bit of me has died inside and they should have never remade it. Yeah ironic i know, but i won't babble on about that. In summary i can only see it as a new game as oppose to a remake.

Hence i decided to attempt to properly "remake" the game. When i played it again on my ipad and android, it just felt amazing with the chibi's and i personally felt that it was much better than the mods i have released in the past "FMV Inspired Models" Whether or not  people has considered my models great or good quality, nothing can beat the original idea of the chibi and full sized battle models as it was intended. The camera is zoomed out to a point where chibi fits much better for the field environment and blends with the "low background" designs.

My model design is loosely based on the original (intricate details such as ears, belt and the small holes on the shoulder pads etc) It will be mostly aimed as a fresh remake feel. As an example "FINAL FANTASY IV" which made a 3D remake on IOS\Android. I have further tested that you can mod both IOS and Android ff7 game, which would be perfect in conjunction with my new models. I can write a guide for anyone whose interested in installing mods etc.

Below is my current progress 8)

Fixed some texture alignments, screens up

I don't remember the tex number, but I'm sure if you searched my username you will find a tutorial which i wrote awhile back. Back in my high school years actually lol so quite outdated. Seemed so long ago since i first imported a field model. Good old days and also ended up working with squeeble ha if you remember him.

Thanks for the welcome guys :)

That Barrett looks awesome! I love the simplicity and yet still a quality model.

I took a look at your Cloud. Progressing very nicely. His face is closer to the original now. A little chubby face but hey i think it's a good hybrid form of the field model, it's as though the battle model did a fusion with the chibi Cloud and stretched to scale . Great work!

Added more detail to Clouds face through color shading.

Final Fantasy VII
HD Remastered Edition By Weeemus

Totally related to the mod

Heyo, it's been awhile since I've been an active member due to work ect, yeah pain the butt lol.
Finally able to free some time off work, and thought i'd do what i love most! Modding! Now that i have at least a minimal free time of 2 hours at the very least. :D

About Mod

Now lets get down to shizz.
Previously i released a FMV style mod  http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13489.0 and lost all my files one day due to a corrupt hdd. Today i decided to recreate those models but with a HD twist, rather than purely basing it on the FMV, How about a remastered edition. Different however still maintaining bits close or a resemblance to their original concept art. A better example, say Ocarina of time remake on the 3DS. Link looks a hella different but at the same time one feels somewhat hey that look like the same link but not really at all, which makes no sense in what I'm saying. But if you got that, sweet. Otherwise look at FFX HD remaster edition. Ie. Wakka's face. Or a semi half ass job remastered like FF8 steam edition. Minor but amazing! You only need the slight extra poly's for a old school game to still feel old school whilst pretty for the eyes :D

Sneak peak of a model comparison from my old mod and my current.
Sharper, more daunt and less jaggies. Ignore the actual texture, i quickly whipped up a simple one in 5 minutes to see how the model would look roughly. It will be discarded and replaced with a better color palette, and sharper texture and precise uv mapping.

Experimenting different head poly's and styles, so may scrap this current cloud head and make a new. And off course I'll only finalize the texture when i'm happy with the model first ;)

Edit

Added textured ears. Cartoon style like Zelda!

Fixed up some uv mapping. And turned on the flat mode to see how it'd look :)

Testing out some hair textures. I concluded to re-model the whole hair again. I'm not satisfied with it's quality. Afterwards I'll draw proper hair textures.

Re-modeled the hair a little. Trying to not overdo it with quality. Experimenting various colors at this point and different hair textures/designs. I want to create a exclusive unique look as a overall model.

Half way creating another head yet again. I've decided to just stick with my current head and proceed with this style with the rest of the characters. The new unfinished head will be scrapped. A comparison picture of the two. Keeping the one with blue edges as the other one will just look too smooth and detailed upon completion. Would look too HD within game.

Haha, Best hope you don't see it as a bra when his in game.  :P

Edit: Working on the torso

Nearly there

10
Thanks for the welcome  :)
Once i free up more time. I shall complete the main characters based on the FMV.

New proper face.

11
It's been quite awhile since I've entered the forum. I can see a lot of wonderful mods and the progression is just amazing.

Unfortunately I cannot release my NPC reconstruction as of yet. I was 80% done, up until my hard drive crashed and lost all of my files. Sigh.

In any case. I assume all menu and world texture overhauls will eventually be close to 3D. I decided to re-model Cid. Rather than basing it on the FMV completely this time. I'll create my own rendition. Not too high quality as it will look out of place. Minimal but it will suffice haha

Sneak peek.

edit:

Added angry expression :D

12
Silence makes me nervous.

Sorry I've just been extremely busy these days with work. But do not worry. The project is still alive  ;D

@squallff8
Ha cheers mate!

13
ha when i have more time, i suppose i can try.

Anyway so i was browsing through youtube and found this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cport3zgHP0

Is this the newest dissidia? I haven't played or seen any cut scenes before, until just now. haha is it worth playing just so i can watch all the cutscenes? Also do i have to watch the first dissidia to understand the story?

I have it on my psp (dissidia 012) but never touched it before and if i were to play it, i'd use an emulator for full hd ha. Otherwise if anyone knows a hd playlist in the correct order on youtube, that'll be awesome! Since i'm abit reluctant to play just to watch the cutscenes.

14
So you could reproduce a vincent just like that?  :-o

ha sure i guess :P

15
I'm really excited with this mod tbh.
Cant wait to play with these models :D

Just a question, does anybody know if this Vincent model ever ripped?

Ha good to know. Also Yes, and i know how :)
But there's no point for me since i find it more satisfying to create my own  8)
Unless i use it as reference side by side ( if i'm lazy looking at pictures as reference) But i doubt that.

16
lol i still have game haven't played it in 3 months. i got my ps3 80g 4 usb last month so i need to get to it
by the way weemus be sure to check for transparncy issues if there is any during the Honeybee Inn, Temple of Ancients, and Cloud's Mind with all your char when finished

I haven't tested them in-game, But in theory I think The huge Cloud would be completely invisible in "Cloud's mind" and probably only his sword is visible (Since the sword was added to  chest bone ) if not, then nothing at all. Since I'm not using any vertex colors, the whole model is textured in group 0.

17
Only thing left to do is to create the Chest gear and I'm about done!  ;)

18

Sneak peek. ;)

19
Yuffie Kisaragi

Finished the base! Time to model the gears and headband

20
Ha, at the moment I have been refining my old models. But the next model on the list is Yuffie

21
you can make an image with all the textures parts with gimp or photoshop and make a new uv coordination into blender with the new image you made before import. Sorry for my bad english i'm french.

Thanks for your input. That's pretty much what I do, but it still reduces the quality. It's slightly more pixelated. But thought I'd ask before I merged them into one. Ha guess this is the only way.
Then again not that it matters too much, considering the ff7 game itself is quite zoomed out and you can hardly see the details to begin with. ( which was why my old vincent textures looked good ingame and not in 3d max)

My other minor concern that you probably are even more aware of is making sure any higher-res textures still match the fmv's as best as possible

Thanks for the feedback. I only edited my Vincent due to it being "too simple" at first. But do not worry, the end result will still blend with the other characters. Furthermore lighting! Makes a huge impact on my models. So with the correct lighting, it should be all good ;)

Edit: Just to show you that they all blend :)

Hello. I'm new on this forum.Excelent work dude...but I think that Cloud hairs should be more yellow and his sword is too big, other than that excelent work!!! :) Vincent model...just wow :-)

Good eye ;)
True, that his sword should be shorter. But I prefer it slightly bigger ha you can always re-size it yourself if you'd like in kimera. Remember this is FMV "Inspired" and not 100% based upon.
As for his hair, I did see a lot of different shades such as dark yellow and more to the orange side in certain pictures. Then again it's because his in different areas with different lighting. I only stuck with his current colour, Since i believe it blends well with most of the background environment he is in.

Edit:

Completed

Merged all the textures into one. The cape isn't as high quality compared to the  old pictures in terms of lines and folds within the cape. But i rather use 1 texture file in-comparison to 6.
I did upscale the face texture and redrew the eyes however. I think this is a good compromise, the cape was too detailed compared to the other characters anyway.

So do you like the new Vincent compared to my old release? :D

22

By the way, does anyone know how to merge all textures into one, without reducing the quality of the texture?

23
Ha sure, when I have the time, I'll make a tutorial! Keep in mind 10 minutes since it's a simplistic texture!
Usually it would take a lot longer if we were to produce quality textures  :)

But a quick summary.

Umv unwrap - cylindrical - reset - fit
Wield selected
Pack uv's - Linear packing
Render umv template
export selected part
Import as new 3d layer in photoshop cs4 extended
Add details with the brush tool! done!

I only recently discovered the 3D import since I didn't have extended version at the time. And my god It is amazing! Saves so much time compared to how I used to draw my textures.

Edit:

Rather than completing my re-texture of Vincent. I've been procrastinating and experimenting with a few things. Such as this Cell-shaded Vincent! :D

New Hair and Cape

CURRENT WIP

Vincent Re-texture

I decided to re-texture him. So far I've only done the cape. Ideally I wanted the extremely simplistic look, but at the same time I thought, I could add a little more detail. Considering it took 2 minutes literally to draw the texture for the old Vincent. Whilst now I'm spending 10 minutes on the texture! :D
