I have been thinking about a re-coding of the FFVII engine such that it is more portable (eg, use OpenGL instead of DirectX, make open source, code in ANSI C as much as possible.) If I implemented all of the file format decoding algorthims that are available and used as much of the *.lgp files as I possibly could, how much do you think would have to hard coded into the source?

Archive / Wine, Linux and FFVII
« on: 2003-11-22 18:27:32 »
I've been trying to get FFVII to work under Linux with Wine (A building of standard Windows APIs for Unix). It installed perfectly, but when I try to run it, I get the "Please insert Disk 1,2 or 3" message.  I remember there is a registry entry you can change to get FFVII to read FMVs of the hard disk, but does anyone remember what you change?  I am fairly sure it just won't read /mnt/cdrom, so finding a way for it to run without the cdrom would be wonderful.

Ficedula:
On my computer the Open/Lgp and Open Location buttons are switched(as in opening a lgp opens a location)  Not sure if this happens to other people, but it seems pretty easy to fix.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7 .s files
« on: 2002-06-01 21:43:36 »
I know about the regular .p .rsd and .tex filetypes, but in magic.lgp (and possibly others) there is a .s file.  I have tried reading it as a rsd (to get plain text) filetype but they seem to consist only of #.  File number two and number four are examples of this.  Anyone know anything about it?  Also it seems odd that there are multiple files with the same data all throught tthe lgp
is there a reason why they could'nt use just one?

General Discussion / been there done that

I have been following the progress of the remake project for quite some time, and have also extensively used the ff7 applications that have been made.  I wanted to show myself.

Also I'm sure this is the 185,486,201th time a newbie has asked to join the remake project but I would like to ask.  I am a intermediate user of Povray and Moray and was wondering if you needed someone to render backgrounds.
