That's not why the Ultima version isn't supported here. It isn't supported because it used Jedwin's chocobo patch and gave no credit to him. It also isn't supported, because of the forced midi sound fonts it loads on your PC. I don't remember the details, but I believe Qhimm discovered that it modifies Window's system files, without warning you. It's not a critical file just the MIDI's, but it still does that without a warning. Hardly any game used midi anymore, but those that do, most likely, won't sound the same as before installing that patch.

As for the obsolete list, I don't understand that.... I haven't visited or posted on this forum for about 5 years (or maybe more...), and I haven't played FF7PC for even longer. But, the Chocobo patch was made because FF7 used a memory range that was reserved for windows use. 95/98/ME kernel had no problem, because those OS's didn't make use of that reserved memory range. But, when the NT kernel took over for WinXP and above that memory range was being used by the OS. So, when that chocobo race minigame would start, the game would crash. The Chocobo patch moved the memory range of the minigame out of OS reserved space, thus removing the crash. Some guy by the name of Jedwin (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?action=profile;u=363) gave us the patch, and Qhimm started hosted it. Eidos even posted a link to Qhimm's site, as I recall; without his permission, but he let it slide....

So what changed? Why is the Chocobo patch now considered obsolete and no longer needed? Reason I ask is, because, that patch has nothing to do with the video driver. It's was a software glitch coded into the game, itself.

Apparently....

bpumpkin: Luckily, I found an alternative solution. I found on the GameFAQ's boards that if you take your model detail and turn it down to the second notch from the left, it fixes the problem.

Have no idea what he meant by model detail... assume it's an option in MGS2, not any actual Video Card driver setting.

well.... seems I've been giving out bad advice, then.
Over at the Sim's 2 board..... but...  it was about 14 months ago.

Wasn't it said that LCD type monitors slow down Frame rates?
I could have sworn that was the main reason why it was said to stick with regular type monitors....
That the refresh rate was too slow for LCD's.

... you could always just use a VCR.
Or that method, anyway.

I'm sure there is a PC Card you can buy that will allow you to record stuff directly from the signal that goes to your TV. I know you can connect a VCR in between the PS2 and the TV and record stuff that way. I'm sure there is an card you can buy that will allow you to place the PC between the PS2 and TV. Just need a PCI card that has a TV input. Actually, you don't even need an output. PC should do the rest. They used to sell PCI-TV tuners...I believe. I remember them, anyway... bet that would work.

Umm.....yeah....
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/750/750330p1.html

Doesn't look like horse type games do all that well. but then.... that one did real bad. Kinda like the reviewer's attitude/writing about it, though. Can just imagine what ran thru his head when they made him play it and review it.

Funny though...the image looks simular to the one ChaosControl left. Guess there is only so much you can do with a horse simulator... Doesn't exactly scream "fun", to me.

Umm... huh?
Isn't that like saying the devil made me do it?

The truth is such people are morons, by nature. You know Gamespot just released an article where they found the shooter of one of those incidents... The moron was selling the PS3's he stole on Ebay.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6162390.html

And to make matters worse... the dude that got shot was more worried about getting his PS3... Hiis only goal was to resell the thing himself, on ebay. It's not Sony that caused those negative incidents.... It was Greed.

You put that many Greedy people in a single place, and negative actions are going to follow.
Same thing happened to the Xbox....

Reason why Nintendo didn't see such, or as many media crazed, incidents is because the majority of people waiting in line were actually buying it for themselves. It's a difference of personality types... has nothing to do with Sony, Nintendo, or Xbox....  (Or cabbage patch for that matter...remember that christmas epidemic?)

Your overall conclusions is.....
Suggestive....
Opinionated.

Heh... guess it boils down to demographics then.

Parents waiting in line vs. horny teenagers....
With the kiddies voicing opinions via. the internet.

PS2.... and an AMD Socket 939 3000XP with PCI-E 6600GT PC are my only gaming outlet, of today.

Just saw a partial documentry on Iran, I think it was with that reporter Ted Koppel was the National Geographic channel, I think. I say partial because I was channel surfing. Anyway... their internet is heavly filtered. So, it's not like goverments aren't trying to stop it.

Doubt the internet is going to change much, very fast.... if such filtering continues and I see no reason why it wouldn't.

Direct Sound Accelertion
Dxdiag Instructions....

In the "Run..." menu of Windows. (It's in the Start Button....)
Type: Dxdiag
In the text box...and press OK.

A program will load up.... Go to the Sound Tab.... there will be a slider bar.... move it until you see it say something about Basic mode. Should be the second notch from the left. I had a problem with FF7pc on my PC, and putting it on basic mode worked for me.

As for codecs and all that jazz.... I don't know anything about that stuff. I know what they are... But I don't know how you can remove them from WinXP. Honestly....I don't think there is any simple way of doing it. Win98 I know of a way....but not WinXP. But, if the movies play in window's mediaplayer.... then most likely they'll play in the game, too. They may not play very well... Could be a slideshow in-game.... But, I would gamble to guess that the Video Codecs are not the cause of a Drop to Desktop, in such a case.

Note about the TNT patch: The TNT patch isn't a Nividia patch...not really. What it really is, is a 8bit pallet disable patch. The TNT patch only works with video cards that FAIL the 8 bit pallet test. If the 8 bit pallet test says PASS, the TNT patch will not work. So...if your TEST screen in the FF7config program says PASS for that test.... then the TNT patch isn't going to work for you. I'm not familar with ATI... but it's the same for those cards, too. Also, beaware, this is only for Hardwaremode... Doesn't matter with Software mode. So, get the game working in Software mode before messing with Hardware mode. Or you'll just compound your errors and will never find the cause.

Also be aware, it's not really the video cards that control whether the test reads Pass or Fail, it's the video drivers. So it could be that updated video drivers, will fix it, too. (again this is for Hardware mode.....get Software mode working first.)

Look. Forget about the TNT patch....
Get the game working in Software mode, first....then you can mess around with the TNT patch.
Recommend reinstalling and going from there...

(Another thing to note.... the game only works from the CD-rom that you installed the game from.)

And for starters...go into Dxdiag and turn off Sound Acceleration...put it into basic mode. Full Sound Acceleration sometimes causes this problem....depending on what soundcard and drivers you have.

(and if this is some type of BS torrent file.....then you are on your own... FF7 uses windows regestery to find where the movies are located.... If it can't find them.....you get that black screen)

Heh... I saw that one.

I like the one when they tested to see if putting the tailgate of a truck really saved gas. I was pretty shocked that it wasted more gas because the tailgate acts like a spoiler. Now I smile whenever I see a truck crusing on the freeway with it's tailgate down...

Heh... I have one of those locking steel roll covers on my bed (came with the truck, bought it used), wonder if that acts like a spoiler, too?

It's not really a trick...
It's just the way the courts work. It's the same reason why OJ is free...
Beyond 'all reasonable doubt' is needed.

As refusing to do something and it being declared as an automatic admission of guilt...  that conflicts with your rights as a citizen and the law of innocent until proven guilty. Maybe the UK is different, but freedom is a big deal in the US. For better or worse.

They'll take away your driver license (until it's settled) if you refuse, and take you to jail (again until it's settled, or bail.)  But, they are going to do that anyway, if you fail the breath test. Anyway, the only people that truely slip through are those that can still carry themselves well. You still have to pass their other tests with big brother watching, all the while.

And here is something else... even if they are convicted and have their licence suspended... they can still apply for a (I don't remember what it's called) something license that allows them to go directly to and from work. Then if they are caught, it gets serious. How serious, I don't know. Don't know anyone that went that far.

I'm not going to preach....no sense in it.
I'll go the other way instead....

You should have refused the breath test.....
It's an automatic go to jail card. But, if you pass that sobriety test. There is a huge chance that a lawer can reduce the charges to a PI or altogether. Whole point of this is to keep that DWI off your record. Although...it may not be the same outside the US.... I don't know.

I don't drink, never have. But, I have family who work at lawer's firms and that's just the way it turns out. Those are the circumstances that slip through.  Also, I'm told, they usually have a camera trained on you while in the car. It's best to just sit still and keep quite on that trip to jail....

Of course, if you're totally drunk... it's not going to matter. Now, will it....
The camera sees everything....

biglight is the one that takes ages to playthru..... for someone. Savepoints are far away from each other. It's the one where Cloud hands over the black materia and all the weapons take off, I think. It's not on all the disks. It's like 20megs big or something.

Think I saw a  documentary or something a few nights ago on one of the History channels (for some reason they've been showing a whole lot of relegious stuff...probably due to this Da vinci fad), where they figured out that 666 was refering to Nero or some tyrant from the Roman era. Something about hebrew text matching up to his name or something.

I'm sure it's on the internet....

Heh...yeah.

Found out about it at IGN's forum....
Been watching it for about 8 months, I guess.

I like what they say in their FAQ.... about being shut down.
Guess we'll see.

I was just wondering if anyone else knew there was a project going on on this....
Been keeping an eye on it for a while... Seems like forever, really. They still aren't done with it.
Looks like huge improvements...if they ever finish it.

I haven't really been following E3, all that much. Think most of the ones I'm waiting for weren't at E3.
But, I heard that Atlus picked up Rule of Rose....
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/708/708106p1.html

I'm waiting for FF12, with everyone else.
However, I'm more interested in Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria.

Closest one I'm wondering about is Steambot Chronicals, also from Atlus. Which is due next week or something.
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/690/690748p1.html

Let's see... I'm waiting for Kingdom Hearts 2 to go down in price before getting it....
May get Atelier Iris 2, if I ever complete the first one.....

Disgaea 2 is on my radar....
Xenosaga 3
Rogue Galaxy

PS3 games.... dont' plan on getting a PS3 until 2008 or something but.
Virtua Fighter 4
Metal Gear Solid 4
Devil May Cry 4
FF vs 13
FF13
Resident Evil 5
and Fatal Frame.... have my interest....

24
If it were me....
I'd try playing with Direct Sound Acceleration set to Basic mode.

25
I have no problems with the PS2 controllers. Except maybe for the Shoulder buttons not lasting more than 50 hours of Virtua Fighter 4 playing, before sticking or losing it's action for one reason or another.

(and my hand from the tip of my middle finger to the edge of my palm is about 7 1/2 inches, if that means anything.)
