Please if anyone can take some time to help me fix this I would be very appreciative.

I own FF7 for the PC, my setup is the following
AMD Athlon 2400+
1 Gig DDR
GeForce 3 TI200 128MG
ASUS MB with nForce Audio
Windows XP with SP 2, and all updates
ACE Mega Codec Pack (not sure if this matters but I'll list it anyway)

Now I had this installed awhile ago on this same machine, with a ATI 9000, and Windows 2000, using the ACT to make it work, It worked in D3D had some audio problems, but was fine.

Here is exactly what I've done so far
On a FRESH windows xp, I have fully updated drivers for all my stuff.
1.) I installed Detonators 81.85 (81.85_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql.exe)
2.) I installed RivaTuner (RivaTuner20RC157-[Guru3D.com].exe)
3.) I installed FF7 FRESH from the CD's
4.) I installed 1.02 patch, linked from these forums  (ff7_1.02.zip)
5.) I installed Duck TrueMotion, linked from these forums (ff7betap1.exe)
6.) I installed Chocobo Patch, linked from theese forums (ff7_chocobo_patch.zip)
7.) I copied all movies from the cd to a movies folder in FF7 folder
8.) I edited the registry to point to new movie location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\MoviePath = "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\Movies\"
9.) I went to the FF7 folder (see above) and changed the properties on FF7.exe, I clicked compatablity, and checked "run this program in compatablity mode for" = Windows 95, and I checked "turn off advanced text services for this program"
10.) Opened RivaTuner went to DirectX Setting, Unchecked 8bit textures in both Dx7 and Dx8, then went to the cfg file, and replaced the FSAA settings, went back to rivaturner, changed the FSAA mode in DX to 2x2, and rebooted

Now I've spent hours looking over these forums (and even the evil animevamp) to fix my specific problem.

In Direct3D Hardware Acceleration Mode, All resolutions, with NVIDIA checked (tried both RIVA 128, and TNT) (i have also tried, turning 8 bit textures ON with rivatuner, and unchecked nvidia in the FF7 config, which allows d3d, with the same results): The screen goes blank (like it does with any full screen d3d game), then I hear the music from the eidos logo, then I get a windows error. Every once in awhile I wont get a windows error, but It will sit blank until I end task it.

In Software Renderer:
640x480 Fullscreen: I Get the TOP LEFT 1/4 of the Eidos video (basically I see EID like if Im zoomed in on the top 1/4 of the screen), it seems to be playing in slow motion, then eventually gives me a windows error.

640x480 Quarter Screen: I get the same problem with the videos, I only get the top 1/4 of the screen, but in this mode, I will get the "New Game" menu, and I CAN play the game, but all ingame videos are only top 1/4 of the screen screen. (on a side note, if I play the game in this mode, when I exit out, FF7.exe stays running in my task list, using 20mgs, till I end task it)

320x240 Fullscreen: Exact same as 640x480 (only getting top 1/4 of videos) but obviously it takes up the full screen insted of just the middle like 640x480 quarter mode. (and ff7 still stays in my task list just like 640x480 as well)

Well obviously even tho the game is semi playable in the last 2 modes, not being able to see the full cut scenes in NOT acceptable to me, they are 1 of the best parts of the game.

So if anyone can take some time to help me I would really appreciate it.

Here are a few other random things I have tried to fix it:
I downloaded and setup ACT 4.0, and used win95/98/2k compatablity modes, with shrinker and the other features enabled (cant remember them off my head) same problems.

I have tried the built in windows compatablity modes at 95/98/2k all with the same problems.

My videos all play fine in windows media player off the HD or CDs, except  for biglight.avi, 4 seconds in, it glitches then the audio keeps playing and the video gives me the error TrueMotion filter needs to be updated try www.duck.com, and windows media player gives a error saying "The version number of the file is invalid" but I think this error is caused by a scratch in my cd2, cause every other video is fine. (btw I tried duck.com and it says sorry to ff7 players TM20 is no longer supported)

I tried the High Res patch, just to see, same problems.

I enabled the debug log, and here is what my APP.LOG shows when in 640x480 Full Screen, NVIDIA > TNT

As you have trouble with the movies it sounds like you have some sort of codec problem or conflict. You mentioned that have the ACE Mega Codec Pack installed. Try uninstalling this and the Duck TrueMotion codec. Then reinstall the Duck TrueMotion codec without installing any other codecs.

Yeah, the ACE Mega Codec Pack probably isn't one of the best things to have installed, actually. It seems to cause a lot of problems/codec conflicts, I recommend the CCCP fixes most playback problems on most anything.

HoooRAAAA!, removing the ACE codec pack did it, you guys are awesome, now 4 more questions...

1.) Does everyone on XP SP2, have ff7.exe get stuck and not exit out right? (it stays in task manager wether I ALT-F4 or Quit/Exit

2.) I pasted the new FSAA settings into riva tuner, if I run the game with the default setting in Rivaturner (let application decided), the game runs fine, if I run it in 2x2 like the faq says, I get blocks all over my screen. This may be a mute point, just run it in default if it works, but I'd figure I'd ask.

3.) This may be the wrong post for this, but using the High Rez version available on these forums, I tend to freeze up every now and again, is that expects since its beta?

4.) And finally can someone just point me to a place where I can download any high quality character models, I know i've seen links ALL over these boards but after 5 hours of fixing this problem, I don't want to go digging again lol (btw will the HIGH quality models work with the HIGH rez version of the game, or are they already included?)

That copy and paste thing doesn't apply, anymore. That was a work around for those drivers.... not for these newer one. It was basicly for the drivers that had the 8bit pallet enabled. That copy and paste thing solved the blocking/layering problem, that it's apparently creates on these newer drivers.

I don't have any exiting problems....  but I just noticed I have some gaming problems with that game. And I don't have a clue whats causing it. It's playable...but annoying. The movies play choppy and the gameplay itself seems choppy. The Audio sounds distorted, as well.  I'm not going to bother with it... I'll probably do more damage, than cure it. Probably an audio codec conflict or video. I'm sure a fresh install of windows would solve it.... But, I'm not about to do that....again.

1) This is a side effect of using compatibility mode

3) There are many different reasons why the game might crash

4) http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4451

yeah, thats for an older rivetuner and older drivers.  that aprt of the faq needs to be updated.  However, teh high res patch has AA enabled, if you can get it working.

BTW, i think you meant a "moot" point =)  Just sayin' =)

I have had a slightly higher degree of battle swirl crashes with the thigh res patch, but no out-and-out freezing *shrugs*

Here are some suggestions.

First, go back to your FF7.exe and set compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME and enable "Advanced text services for this application". If you wan't to use FSAA just use the High-Resolution patch and save yourself A LOT of headaches. Just know, that your monitor and video card must be able to support a resolution of 1280x960 for the Patch to work correctly. Otherwise the game will crash back to the desktop.

If you're satisfied without FSAA then just set the nVidia drivers to off or "Application Controlled" and that should take care of your grid-line issue. Goodluck, hope that helps you. :)

I have the same problem... ff7.exe (1.02 US) crashing right after the game goes to full-screen mode, when using the patch by The_SaiNt... I don't have any other tweaks installed.
I have the LATEST drivers for my MSI NX6600GT installed & Direct X 9.0c... I tried the method with Rivatune (as well as doing ANY possible changes to the Graphics tab of the v1.02 config), but with no success. However, I have KLM Codec Pack installed... could this be the reason for ff7.exe crashing?

EDIT
I got the game running without having to uninstall the codec pack... I only had to use the second high-res patch, too! (the one for 1280x1024)
I also had to change the settings in the ff7 config utility to the following:
1. Check NVIDIA and select TNT
2. Set "Display resolution" to 640 x 480 16bpp (Full Screen)
3. Set "Renderer" to Direct3D Hardware

Everything works fine now... I've even managed to run the game without the discs :D

NOTE:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack works fine, but other Codec Packs like ACE Mega CoDecS Pack cause the game to crash...

Yeah, and resurrect a topic that had been happily dead for more than six months.

What is it with you, have you not read the rules, or are you having exceptionally massive problems understanding them? With your English proficiency exam, and all.

Listen, thus far you have tried your hardest to write in monkeyspeak, doublepost, and now resurrect old topics. My patience is really starting to wear thin, and lot better members who have pissed me off are are not here anymore.

Do you get my meaning?

(Just in case you are not proficient enough in English; that's a threat, since being nice obviously doesn't work with you. In case you think that I'm bluffing... well, you can try. Or ask Rubicant, Mofokubik, Undesirable, SheismyHeart, ButBut and his buddy, and the rest if they think I bluffed.)

I'm not looking for a fight, so I suggest that you think of this warning as a service to you. Very likely there won't be another one.

I'd take Jari's advice EAngelos89. Trust me.

Here's a list of things you do really not want to do, when responding to this message.

1. Responding in the first place. Don't. Unless you've got something really interesting to say or a hell of an argument to convince Jari he's wrong, just don't. Take the "warning" and don't bring it up any more. That way everyone's happy. And no, that's not just Jari. Most members of the board will be.
2. Start jelling at Jari. Calling him names. Saying he sucks and should go fuck himself and more like that. First of all, that'll get you nowhere. Second, it'll destroy any credibility you have left. Thirdly, you'll lose anyway. Both the "fight" and the arguing.
3. Go "disobeying" the rules again. So no more resurrecting dead topics, among other things.

Things you do want to do:

1. Read the rules.
2. Comment when you think your post will add something to the boards. In a serious, funny or whatever way. As long as it does, feel free to post. It's what makes forums a nice place to be. Otherwise, refrain from posting.

If you decide to ignore this "advice", please keep in mind that the only thing that will happen is you losing your face, being made to look like a fool, and turning into the center of many jokes. That is not a pleasant thing.
