Title: Faulked's backgrounds
Post by: faulked on 2018-10-15 16:32:04
Hey guys. I've been spending some time working on a new field. Let me know what you think.  :)

This is a remake of southmk1.

edit: An XL version with properly positioned church: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1MCGLwuxbU-5XyzkVOR2-DcopvvD_DQ9_ (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1MCGLwuxbU-5XyzkVOR2-DcopvvD_DQ9_)

There are two more fields featuring this area that I'll work on now that I have the base geometry in place.

SoulEvan sliced southmk1 (thanks!): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wwjEJ388-fgz-CjygDJRnDTLI3ioM1hR (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wwjEJ388-fgz-CjygDJRnDTLI3ioM1hR)

Thanks guys. Glad you like how it's turning out.  :D

I really like your texture work, what did you use? Substance painter?

Mostly just Blender and Photoshop. I've been making heavy use of Blender's texture nodes to make procedural textures, which I imagine is similar to how Substance Painter works.

Here's southmk2:

All that's left now is to tweak things and add more detail.

You made big progress, these screens are magnificent !

When they are finished, will you do the cutting to integrate in game ? Or do you want me to do it ?
Title: Re: Mako reactor bridge scenes
Post by: faulked on 2018-10-16 19:27:34
If you could cut them, that would be great.  :D That step always gives me trouble, lol.

southmk1 is ready for slicing if you'd like to do that one.

I put the 3 in game, all look amazing. So here's the files for all 3. Just note that for the time being southmk2 has a missing layer for where it has the ground blown up so it looks funky at that point. As well as this because the original layer is currently behind the new ones it does peak through slightly so sounthmk for the time time being is probably worth not using

Thanks Tsuna, appreciate you slicing the other two BGs! I'll see what I can do about the missing layer.  :D
Title: Re: Mako reactor bridge scenes
Post by: Shampignon on 2018-11-04 15:40:03
Nice work Tsunamix, but I saw there are some defaults of transparency with the layers. For exemple, the ramp on nrthmk is not perforated and we do not see Cloud pass behind. the cutting is a very meticulous operation, it is often necessary to readjust the clipping compared to the new images, which are much more precise. If you want, you can send me the PNG files of your layers and I'll try to improve the slicing.  ;)
Title: Re: Mako reactor bridge scenes
Post by: Tsuna on 2018-11-04 17:42:10
I can do, the way i do it is when i have the layers all open in GIMP i select only the alpha section. invert and copy that selection from the new image pasted over the original. So i assumed it would be identical.

I dont actually have layers anymore :P I'll do them again at some point
But what you could do to help me understand this better actually is if you watch that 1 part of this tutorial i made you could tell me where i go wrong maybe?

From around 1844 i believe. Would appreciate the help

Your method is good when you work on original pictures, not on remodelised screens. Sometimes there are gaps between what the graphic designer manages to do and the original picture. Some elements are not exactly in the same position. It's why you must slice by yourself when you have stuffes like chairs or ramps (all what the characters pass behind). It's also why it takes me some hours to have a good slicing...
You also can't take the original layer when you have a diagonal line, because you'll have a big aliasing effect. The original picture have less details, so all the diagonals will have a staircase effect, but on the high definition image, the line will be straight.
Layering is not an easy part of the job...Whoever wants to do it will have to be very precise and will have to cut back almost everything without following the original layout.
I hope my explanations are clear, I'm french and it's not easy to find the good words !

It doesn't matter if you don't have the layers anymore, I saied to Faulked I'll make the layering, so I planned to do it anyway  ;D

Hello.

Just To say that I'm actually working on the reactor screens but I don't have much time, it progresses slowly.
The slicing of Tsunamix is good for southmk1 but not for the two others. Southmk2 had a problem, the camera was not at the good place and president Shinra was walking in the air ! I spent a lot of time changing the orientation of the bridge and I think it's good. Now I have to slice and test in game.
I didn't work on nrthmk for the moment.

So...to be continued...

Tsunamix and I have been collaborating on remaking the southmk2 movie.

Tsuna is doing the character animations and the camera setup while I've been tinkering with the explosion.

Here's a look what we have so far: https://youtu.be/GRu48k_FIMk (https://youtu.be/GRu48k_FIMk)

Wow, it looks pretty good. I'm not a big fan of the models you are using but the animations are smooth and the explosion effect is really nice. We'll done

The animation and texture work a really well done! I don't know about Barrett wearing sunglasses seems weird
Title: Re: Mako reactor bridge scenes
Post by: Tsuna on 2019-03-14 19:19:17
Yeah we tried to make the models as close to the remake shots as possible being as it will become a forced meta eventually. Just kinda made sense for a first try. Eventually maybe we can swap them for others and have different versions to match the character model you use. I dunno, Might be a lot of work lol

Personally, I think Barrett looks even more like a bad-azz with the shades.  Tifa's face makes me think of Rinoa, though, and Cloud... well, he's just as stiff as ever. It's almost as if someone pressed 'Pause' on him figuring that was the best way to ensure he survived the fall :D

That's f***ing good !

I would have preferred the style of the original characters, but it's already a great job.

Have you seen on the Jusete Topic that the 2 screens "southmk" were available, and that I have remade the video for the explosion of the robot and the bridge ?

Yes! Tsuna linked me to that. You did an amazing job man, love how you did the animation of the bridge exploding. It looks perfect. Also the way you put textures on md0 looks cool as hell. Thanks dude. :D

Hey Tsuna. What's up dude. :D

How's Tsunamods coming along?

Texturing is a bit of a bottleneck, heh. It's very time consuming. Did you ever finish any of the fields? I wouldn't mind taking a look at the ones you made. :)

Thanks! I view this as a bit of a long term project for myself (making all the train areas). But you're exactly right, I can use my work on tin_2 to make several fields, which is great. :D

On that note, are they basically already a team? Do all "Team Avalanche" fields get placed into the "Team Avalanche Fields" in the Miscellaneous compilation?... The old Avalanches, Project Edge and these as well? Is that how that works?

Good idea. We actually already cooperate on a somewhat low-key basis. Although remaking fields is a bit of a solitary effort.

The good news is I just finished rendering tin_3:

Google Docs Link (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1BrG0lUUGLYLmTe90WvZvjyG_bMdmPLhh)

The fields still need the animations layers and probably some small adjustments to get them ready for the game import of course.

I believe Jusette and Shampignon maintain the Team Avalanche files (packing the new fields, etc). They can probably best answer that question. :)

Amazing work dude. From what I remember you'll have a handful of images to do for these scenes.
Door Open, Door Closed, Hanging handles positions 1,2 and 3. Lights that fly past the windows.
There's a whole bunch. And for every screen too.

The most of all available field scenes are only obtainable as raw installations.

But u can create your own IRO file with all available scenes.  The available IRO Packets are not up to date and lag behind for months.

I created an IRO with all files:

I will update the package every time a new scene is available. I doing this for the database the whole time. So this is no much more work for me.

Can't say when I'll get around to tin_4. The camera perspective is weird. I can't get my viewport to match it  :|

small suggestion for remade videos like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRu48k_FIMk&feature=youtu.be . I would see more 3d models like kaldarasha chaos mod http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13960.0  this way we will be closer to the original models already more beautiful, videos like the death of aerith, the end etc. personally the models in this video are great, but too far from the original ^^

That was a good joke. The original models are just one very big pixel with no hands.  ;D The movie file "southmk2.avi" shows it very clearly. But I understand your point. The interesting fact is, that Square use different models in some movies. In the "earithdd.avi" movie for example, Cloud looks different as in the southmk2.avi file. Why they have used the ingame models in the southmk2.avi for example, but don't in others? I am honest, I don't noticed it over several playthroughs myself.  :o

when i was talking about the original models i was talking about the video models like earithdd.avi, funeral.avi, ending 1 2 3.avi, NIVLSFS.avi etc in these videos the models of the mod chaos of kaldarasha is closer to these. I didn't want to talk about the videos with square chibi models :P

The woodwork is beautiful, just seems a little dark in that back corner (Shin-Ra saving a couple pennies by not replacing a burned-out light bulb, perhaps?)

Thanks for the feedback. You're right, it's a little too dark in the back.

Here's an updated version with a few corrections:

The doors were cut off a little bit in tin2 and tin3. The places that were cut off showed as black. It's not -that- noticable or big of a thing though. Doubt anyone would notice it heh.

All finished scenes are in the package!

It does not depends on me, but on the user "Shampignon". "Faulked" usually completes his scenes completely by himself. For example, Jusete doesn't. Cutting and editing (made up for the game) makes "Shampignon" for all Jusete scenes.

I can only add finished scenes.  ;) If they are not in the package => They are not finished yet. As simple as that.  ;D

Hello SoulEvan, sorry, your package have all the 3d scenes from Jusetes, Shampignon, Faulked, etc...?

And can you please share me the link of it? Thanks.

I believe (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) this link (https://finalfantasy.german-syslinux-blog.de/FF7/) will take you to SE's database.  If I can ever get my torrent tracker to behave itself, I also have a setup on my local machine where I'll be able to release incremental updates, and by taking advantage of BitTorrent's hash recheck function, have people update/replace only the files that have been changed (which is great for starting with a baseline of satsuki, then slipping in these remodels as they are released)
