I'm using various upscaling models for ESRGAN (manga109, zePilot's FF9 model, waifu2x...) as well as manual texturing.
Credit: zePilot (for his script that introduced me to ESRGAN), Fraggoso for all the help, Tirlititi for Hades Workshop

This will eventually be part of Moguri.

I just found the page I've been seeking for a while: a database of most ESRGAN models available.

I've scripted ESRGAN so it to output the result of every model:

Now I need to choose and import the best of each, and mix them together manually

ZePilot told me he wants to add it, but you can already download it and play with it. Be aware that I only tested the first CD, so it will probably evolve a bit.

Yeah, I agree with the fact that it should be included so there's just 1 unique mod to apply to improve all backgrounds in the game ... again, AWESOME work!

Moguri has its own texture folder, located by default in C:\Program Files\Moguri Mod\StreamingAssets\
The worldmap texture file is only p0data3.bin, so go in C:\Program Files\Moguri Mod\StreamingAssets\, backup p0data3.bin, and replace with mine. It does not damage anything.

I download the file and get an error stating "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged". I'm using winrar to try and open it.

Is it still a work in progress? Maybe I should wait until it's complete to try it anyway.

What version of winrar do you use? I compressed with 5.61 and I just tried downloading and decompressing, it works. Could you try again?

Wow, This is awesome, I think is one of those few things moguri mod lacks and it will fit it perfectly.
Thanks for all the job! FF9 is gonna be even more enjoyable :) good thing i stopped to play 3 mounths ago my 2cond run of the game so i can enjoy whole game with these textures.

Is there anyway you could fix it to avoid the web-like pattern that ESRGAN adds to the grass?

Hi everyone! I'm releasing a new and probably final version!

I fixed the grass, the rocky beaches, the snow, the mountains, the desert...
I worked a lot to make the seams between texture blocks disappear everywhere. Everything has been checked.

Known bug: Daggereo front is still blurry. No idea why.

I fond the reason for the blurry Daggereo front on the world map. It's controlled by a duplicate texture file in resources.assets. I'll include it on the main beta download.

The outside of black mages village is blurry/low res for me but only after Pandemonium (disk 4), instead it's correctly textured until the end of disk 3.

Thanks. Similar to Daguerreo (I just checked), it's fixed in resources.assets. It'll be included in the next patch.
