I haven't looked at those files, but what about esthar before and after entering the area?

Well, when is the FF8 remake coming?
SE is making 7, why not 8, or 9?

FF8 remake would be amazing to see, but I don't think it's ever going to happen.

The videos are nice, except for the fact that they are 16:9 while the original ones were 4:3. :(
Everything looks stretched in these videos...

Linux user here.
I tried some time ago to get Tonberry working but couldn't either.

something tells me it's how the injection is made...
if the code ever goes public I'll be happy to take a look.

I think the SFX is FF8-PC are fine, the issue is that they are missing chorus and reverb from the PS1.
Since adding those in realtime would not be easy (overriding DSound.dll perhaps?) a good audio mod for FF8-PC would just add the missing chorus and reverb.

And perhaps figuring out what's wrong with Quezacotl sound (the 2 first sounds are from the Phoenix GF)

I wouldn't change anything else.

I can understand that, but I wouldn't know what to do, I'm not a modder, I'm sorry. So until someone can figure out the needed information, we are stuck with not be able to use Magochocobo's great textures. It's a shame, but patience.. :(
It's never too late to start learning.
A few years ago I didn't even know what a programming language was... :D

Troubleshooting / Re: Joystick: Reconizing Buttons Over 10
« on: 2014-07-20 22:53:43 »
there is something weird that prevents the usage of analog and regular direction buttons at the same time.
disable analog if you want the regular direction buttons.

I'm not very interested on keep working on qtsixa though.
With the release of the ps4, the linux kernel has been slowly getting official support for ps3 and ps4 joystick (including leds and rumble).
Very soon qtsixa will not be needed to get them working, it's just a matter of time.

I tested 3.15 kernel recently, the sixaxis now has rumble when plugged in via USB.
BlueZ should have official ps3/ps4 joystick support very soon, there are already patches for it.

Hi, sixad author here.

What I usually do for FF8 is map keys to the sixaxis buttons.
FF8-PC/Steam does not have analog input or force-feedback/vibration, so we lose nothing by using such mapping.

Here's the config I use for FF8-Steam:
http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Paste/repo/iN4Tm

save it as /var/lib/sixad/profiles/default

EDIT: Just realized you mentioned FF7 instead of FF8. hmm, well, the config should not be that different.
qtsixa has a built-in tool to do the key mapping visually, try it I guess

I'm wondering what Square Enix will do now that all "classic" FF games have been remade or enhanced for mobile (1-6).

Do you think we'll see FF7, 8 or 9 on mobile next?

are you using the ppa, if not why? if so daily or stable?
as I said, I'm not running anything right now (want to complete achievements first).

(psst, psst... I'm very close though :) http://steamcommunity.com/id/falktx/stats/39150/achievements)

Running linux here, thanks for keeping those updated!

(I'm not running/testing the binaries though, I want to complete all achievements first. Damn those 10'000 kills...)

why not make the menu a single color?

I'm not sure how well it will look, but maybe it's worth a try.

Graphical / Re: Need some help testing FF8 models
« on: 2013-12-06 10:31:04 »
I did notice that there are minor model differences.
care to elaborate on that?

I don't have the steam version yet, but from all the videos and screenshots I've seen so far everything is exactly the same as the original pc release.
In fact, my current local version seems much better, because of Aali driver + Roses&Wine + SeeD mods.

Is anyone able to report what changed?

I just looked at some youtube videos, and I see:
1. the music is NOT the PSX versions, still old crappy MIDIs (same that happened with FF7 initially)
2. textures look exactly the same
3. sound issues still remain (quezacotl gf first sounds are from phoenix, a bug present in the original FF8 release)

has anything actually changed at all?

EDIT: yeah, there's something new - online login required to play...

Releases / Re: The Reunion [IN PROGRESS]

no problem.
I'm in no rush to do this.

@DLPB:
I take that you're not interested on FF8 SeeD anymore?
I want to put things in a github repo so anyone can easily track progress. Is this ok with you?

EDIT: Uploaded the adjusted buttons, Dan, but I might have gone a touch too small on the triangle, so lemme know!

Like Dan said, long as I get credit I'm happy to let other projects use them if they want! :D
cool, thanks.
where are these uploaded though?

can the same be done to FF8 SeeD project?

if yes, when the buttons are final please post a link to the PNG file containing it, so I can update SeeD to it (or maybe even you, but you seem focused on FF7 right now)

Hope this question isn't due to a lack of searching, since i've scoured the forums, does anyone have a working link to the SeeD project either 1.0b or 1.0c?
There you go: http://www.mediafire.com/download/caqqolqucj8rti9/SeeD_v1.0c.7z

I love FF8!!
But since I already know all the details and tricks about the game, it becomes very easy.

So I've been thinking, with very small changes we can easily get rid of the minor FF8 flaws.

The first thing I do in a new game is get 'Card Mod'. Playing a lot of cards + Menu Abilities can give us 100 Tornados and other powerful stuff early in the game.
That's kinda bad, so 'Card Mod' needs to go somewhere.
Perhaps switch it with other GF ability (I'm thinking Tonberry's Auto-Potion), or maybe it's better to just remove it?

The next thing is Degenerator, it kills almost all enemies right away. So either remove it or make it so it works less often (like LV?Death does).

Then Hero-war item. The issue is Laguna Card giving us 100 of them...
Without 'Card Mod' this is no longer an issue though.

Anyway, you get the idea.
Very simple things that, at least for me, make a lot of sense.

But how does one make such modifications to the game though?
Some of them are possible by modifying the save (Hyne tool) and Enemies (Ifrit tool). I guess this kind of data is in the executable?

Let me know what of you think.
And if you know how such mod is possible, please leave a comment!!

Perhaps you already know this, but some NPC models are sometimes drawn in the background itself (I noticed this when playing the PC version, these 'models' get really pixelated while the normal models are ok).
I know this is the case on at least Deling City (when the general is explaining the mission), and during the Balamb vs Galbadia event (at the main hall in Balamb G).

@DLPB:
I remember having the same exact error before (I even reported it here, it's probably just a few posts back).
Somehow on my new play of the game it didn't crash... But then I'm using Linux here, so things are a bit different...

(I seriously though the latest driver fixed this, seems not to be the case then)

General Discussion / Re: FFVIII/FF8 Mods?
« on: 2012-08-30 00:23:35 »
I can't get Aali's Driver or SeeD to work with it. Clue me in on how you set it up?  :P
Note that I'm running Linux, so things might be a tiny different.

the method should be:
1 - install ff8
2 - apply 1.02 update (official)
3 - install Aali's driver (just extract its contents over the Data/ folder)
4 - configure ff8_opengl.cfg to your liking
try to run the game now, that needs to work first before going any step forward
