Solved Problems / Where to get Samuel Slight's FF8 DLS?
« on: 2014-02-13 21:52:30 »
Title says it all. I did a quick search here and on Google and I didn't find any working download links here. The website that originally hosted the files (http://ffsf.aaron-kelley.net/download_8.html) just gives a Dropbox 509 error now when the download links for the DLS and the SGT package are clicked. I know about the RaW mod, but I'm curious how the game will sound with midi files that are actually read properly. Does anyone still have the files on their hard drive that they could upload or know of a working download link?

I'm assuming that since I use my motherboard's integrated sound card, I'd need the SGT package.

Also, side question that I'm kind of curious about: Did anyone ever manage to fix Quetzacoatl's sound effects or has that bug eluded everyone for the last thirteen years?

General Discussion / Vincent Forgotten City Question
« on: 2013-10-20 04:06:34 »
The search function seems to be down at the moment, so I apologize if this question has already been resolved and also if I posted in the wrong section. A quick Google search did find this though: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6349.0

Anyway, yeah, you all know about the glitch that happens after the Jenova-LIFE fight. My question is how do you fix it? The one link that I found above about the issue doesn't actually tell me how to implement the solution, so I figured I'd ask you guys.

Also, I'm under the assumption that because the fix is so simple, it doesn't mess with any of the installed mods. Am I correct?

Regarding your first known issue, I believe that Aali's driver has memory leak issues, which causes the incomplete backgrounds. The driver keeps using up memory until you run out, forcing you to quit the game and wait for memory usage to go back down (I usually just restart when this happens).

Take note that no one has actually confirmed this, but it is my suspicion. Another member here ran into the same issue a while back.

Bootleg Questions / Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg
« on: 2013-01-04 21:19:15 »
I asked around a bit and it seems that the fixes done to the 2012 version (or at least the one I'm most concerned about) should carry over to the 1997 version after the conversion (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11992.msg195958#msg195958). Thanks for your help/info though.

7
Sounds like I should be fine then. Thanks.

8
Ok, thanks. Last question: Will the flevel script be affected during the conversion from the 2012 to 1997 version (basically will Vincent's animation mess up again after the conversion)?

The Magic Defense fix is done by Aali's driver on the 1997 versions.

The mistranslation of greens only shows up when you feed Chocobos that you catch yourself (if I recall correctly, Choco Billy may also say the incorrect name during a conversation as well). The names of five greens are different when you choose which one to feed your Chocobos. Curiel becomes Kurie, Mimett becomes Memit, Krakka becomes Karaka, Pahsana becomes Pasana, and Gysahl becomes Gizzard. The mistranslation issue is mentioned here (read the third bullet): http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII/Version_Differences#2012_re-release

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but will any bug fixes done on the 2012 version be lost during the conversion to the 1997 version (Magic Defense fix, Vincent's animation during Aeris' death fix, Chocobo Farm Greens re-translations, etc.)?

11
This question just occurred to me while looking up the 1997 and 2012 version differences. Does anyone know if this driver fixes the glitch with Vincent's animation after Aeris' death?

12
Will this driver be updated to solve the memory leak issue? A bunch of months ago, I mentioned that my RAM usage spiked and got an OUT_OF_MEMORY error, but no one really did anything about it. Now, just a few days ago, someone else mentioned having a memory leak issue (read here: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12008.msg195731#msg195731).

Hi Jreeds26

Save, quite game and rebooting the PC should clear the memory.

And you should really put your app.log between

That works as well, but I don't like to frequently restart my computer. Do whatever works for you.

14
Edit your post a bit so that the log file contents aren't lengthening your post to obscene lengths.

As for your problem, first, do you still hear sound during the black screen? If so, did you try turning off FF7 for a bit before restarting it and defeating Schizo again? I've noticed that the FF7/FF8 OpenGL driver has memory leak issues. I had 4 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6470M that didn't have too much memory in it and I got the same error during the lengthy, graphic-intensive final battle against Ultimecia. In FF7, I never had the issue, but I came close to it very often when screens would take a long time to load since I was running out of memory to load the screen textures. During the long loading times, sound continued to play in the background. When this happened, I just ran for the nearest save point, saved, quit, and then waited for an hour or so before restarting the game. This seemed to fix the issue for a while until I started running out of memory again.

Basically, you can't really get rid of the error, but you can get around it by just quitting when memory usage becomes too great, waiting, and restarting the game once the memory usage goes down. Since you were playing for 10+ hours, it's very likely that the FF7 OpenGL driver started to use too much memory, causing the black screen after the Schizo fight. The game was probably trying to load the screen after the fight, but didn't have the memory to quickly load the textures (sound should've been playing during this time). If you waited (this requires quite a bit of patience as it can be several minutes before the screen loads when there's a shortage of memory), the screen might've appeared either intact or with black boxes around textures that couldn't load properly due to low memory. Either way, when this happens, save and quit the game ASAP (or just quit outright if the nearest save point is too far away) and wait an hour or two for the memory usage to go back down.

Next time, keep track of how long it takes for the memory usage to reach its peak and the black screen to appear again. Then next time you play, just save and quit the game before you play for that long again and wait an hour or two for memory usage to go back down. That way, you can still play smoothly and get around the error by letting memory usage go down before the memory runs out and the error manifests itself again.

General Discussion / Final Fantasy VII PC Re-released
« on: 2012-09-04 16:47:21 »
I don't know if you all know about this already, but I haven't seen a topic for it yet, so...

http://finalfantasyviipc.com/en

That's right, Square Enix modernized and re-released Final Fantasy VII for the PC.

Note: By modernized, I mean that Square Enix made the game easier to work on modern hardware. It's not an actual remake.

16
I see, thanks. I never really noticed/paid attention to the better enemy AI and starting equipment though. Then again, when I started, I hadn't played FF7 in years.

17
Just a quick question: What is the difference between Normal FF7 and Remastered FF7 in mode switching?

18
I'll play with what I have now then. Thanks for looking into it.

19
The first one I had was with the apostrophe and that didn't work, so I changed it to the underscore and when that didn't work, I decided to keep both in my mod folder and it didn't work. I suppose I could always just try again later.

EDIT: Just tried it again and it didn't work, but I know for sure that Millenia+Mike is selected, unless there's something going on where Bootleg shows it as selected when it really isn't. I also noticed this error, but I'm unsure if it's related to this issue:

@Klaw117: Sorry, the error was in the checksum files and not in the Big List of Mods.
You must look here :  http://www.mediafire.com/?c4tqq61i1xrv1
Thanks for the clarification. The files no longer appear corrupt.

EDIT: I'm still getting two problems, although they're minor.
Those are two known errors.
The missing weapons are due to a filename error:
Change the filename of the mod to: Trish(aka Mike)_s custom model pack.7z
You have to add the _.

The avatar presets are broken in 0038.
To install the correct avatars, set AVATAR PRESET to CUSTOM before running bootleg.

If you are missing music after Bootleg:
Extract OSTRe.7z to .\FF7Music\OSTRe\

I've fixed a lot of errors.

Thank you for your support.  You're helping make Bootleg better.
I added the underscore, but that didn't fix anything. For good measure, I even downloaded both versions of the weapons pack (one with the 's and the _s) and re-installed FF7 and re-applied the mods, but the weapons are still missing and only the Millenia weapons show up. The second issue is that during the intro movie, the music backtracks slightly right after the Final Fantasy VII title shows up. Basically, as the camera zooms out from Aeris and Midgar, everything is fine and then when the Final Fantasy VII title shows up, the music goes back a few seconds, so the rest of the movie is a few seconds ahead of the music. Is this also a known issue?

@Klaw117: Error found and corrected.
                   Please test your files again.
Thanks for looking into it, but the checksum errors still show up. Are the links to the re-uploaded files the same as the ones in the Big List of Mods or do I have to look elsewhere for the correct links? I managed to get the .zip files from Rapidshare though, so I can use those for the time being. On that note, thanks for the info on Mediafire and Rapidshare in your PM. I knew Rapidshare decreased download speeds for free users, but I didn't think it was that severe.

22
Ah, thanks for that. I'll follow your directions.

One last thing though that I didn't mention...for some reason, the fast checksums in TestFiles marks the enhanced movie files (ff7_enhanced_movies_1.part1.rar to ff7_enhanced_movies_2.part4.rar) as corrupted, even after I redownloaded them from Mediafire and ran TestFiles again. I haven't been able to try it with the slow checksums though since Mediafire won't let me download it. Is this happening for you or anyone else here? I'm downloading the bigger zip files now to use instead of the rar files, but Rapidshare's download speeds are HORRIBLE.

23
I have a problem. I just tried to install the newer mods with Bootleg, but when I enable the Millenia+Mike weapons, only the Millenia weapons show up. I also set the menu portraits to the Anniversary version, but only the regular portraits with the faded edges show up. At first I thought the Aeris Revival mod was interfering with stuff, but when I only enabled the Remastered and New Spell mods, the problem remained. Does anyone know what's going on? The mod list in Bootleg marked all my files as green and yellow, and TestFiles.exe lists everything as fine so I don't think my files are messed up.

24
Thanks a lot PitBrat!

Has anyone ever run out of memory while using this driver? This driver appears to have a memory leak on my computer. After a while (usually an hour for FF7, I'm not entirely sure yet for FF8), my game freezes up on me. In FF7, RAM usage spikes up to 1.7 GB, some textures don't load properly (black boxes in some screens and in battle screens, modified weapons and sprites show up as black silhouettes), and the game freezes up if I keep playing past the point this starts happening. In FF8, RAM usage spikes up to 1.8 GB and the game freezes between the battle against Ultimecia (junctioned to Griever) and Ultimecia (final form). I haven't tested FF8 in any other conditions since I've already reached the end of that game before installing the driver (I used the FF8 Launcher 1.31 before this driver). Afterwards, I have to quit the game via Task Manager. As I asked before, has anyone else run into this?
