Title: What music are you using? (FF7 Custom soundtracks)
Post by: cirellio on 2012-09-13 21:00:23
One of my favorite aspects of the FF series is the music. If FF4 got me interested in it, FF6, Chrono Trigger, and FF7 cemented that interest for a lifetime.

There's a wide variety of music out there that we could use in our games. I know one place in particular I've never mined (because the sheer volume of music is overwhelming) is ocremix.

I've seen people say they use Black Mage tracks and other interesting things, so I thought it would be cool to see what other people are using. By sharing our playlists, perhaps we can discover new and better selections for our music.

So you vary a lot between Anxious heart and OST remastered ! Looks nice  :)
Personally, I was only on the OST remastered before discovering Anxious heart, and now I have selected this last in FF7Music, cause it sounds so 'woooow', awesome  :D
You have selected each music one by , comparing the best choice between both and configuring it ? It's great !

I'm mostly using stuff from my playlists. I have maybe a dozen or so original tracks remaining, everything else is replaced with tracks from other games and anime

Yes, it turns out they mix and match very well. I don't have volume issues or anything!

Hi there,
I know it's been more than 2 years, but my question is directly related to this topic, so I will firstly asked it here before I create a new topic.

I installed the full bootleg thing, and I am not a really good computer geek I had help with the bootleg and now I was wondering how to change the music. I saw in the bootleg option that i could choose between many music compilation for the game. So I wanted to try another one. The problem is, when the bootleg is doing is job, at a moment, it ask you (another time) if you want the old timer music or the remastered....But I chose one in the bootleg!!

What am I supposed to do?

And can I just change it manualy by myself?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello, with enourmous researches, I found how to do it manualy. but here is my second question!

is there a link to dowload mp3 from the anxious hearts compilation so I can mix my own choices with those?

I'm looking to make my own compilation...

Thank you very much!

Hey, i re-up this topic because after modding a perfect game (graphicals and modded gameplay) i'm working on doing a personal playlist like someone do, so like said the topic it should be great that people post their new added track

I start with this one, an epic battle music that could be great in a battle boss music or a weapon battle ;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvL9rxViNN4

I think i will search for some of ff14 music who for some of them are so great and would be perfect in ff7, ff15 maybe have a lot of good music, but haven't the game so... ^^
Goal is to find epic music who correspond with the embiance of ff7 :) not necessary came from ff saga, maybe will search too with chrono cross music and some games like this

The vanilla one. I can't stand those orchestral remixes. I like the FF VII Soundtrack with the original sample based instruments because they had character.

I mostly use the original game. Sometimes I use the selection I added for Anxious Heart, but that's my limit.  I find most of the remixes to be terrible and I think a lot of them suffer with the same issue graphic updates do - they don't fit in with the original style.

I kinda disagree with you in terms of graphics, but yeah, the remixes for FFVII Music tend to be not nearly as good as the original.
I do think "Those Who Fight Further" by the Black Mages, with some touch ups to be closer to the original in terms of emphasis on instruments, could be a legitimately good replacement for the boss theme (which I adore) but aside from that I'd never use them in-game.

Sadly I lost my loop (or is it still on my external?), but I replaced Aerith theme with 'Farewell' from Within Temptation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5EAFh8uWnk), which makes this special scene even more epic and absolutely fits the relationship between Cloud and Aerith. And I replaced 'Birth of a God' with 'Deceiver of Fools' from the same band (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0NJUKkz-Ps). It does fit for me for many reasons. One reason is the bell at the beginning and the less drum tempo. Another reason is, since I used 'farewell' it feels like Aerith is with you in the last battle. Oh, and my absolute favorite is Crazy Motorcycle by Dual Dragons (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opIrllilfhI). If you drive a bike Metal is a must. 8-)
I also have a sharp eye on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czNsWS63mgk&index=8&list=PLMuzFojU54xbsu24a_cnWziu0qR7_HJR2

Hah, I forgot that I replaced One Winged Angel with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePXOEohCijs
Sadly there is no better quality in the internet than this, but this is by far the best I have heard (for me even better as the original).

I use FFTim's complete soundtrack replacement. Get the proper loop version if available. Only reason why it isn't more popular (I think) is because it's still built for FF7Music. You need to go in and manually rename all the tracks... still very much worth it.

How can i do for convert music mp3 in ogg format? I found 1 software, but the music doesn't re-start after this one is finish, sad to start battle with epic music and then nothing else :(
I understand that someone disaprove t change music, but personally music change procure more surprise and imercivity in the game

So:
1. Get Audacity (or literally anything that can open music and save it as something else)
2. Set loop (look up a guide for this, I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head)
3. Save as OGG
4. Rename the OGG file to whatever track you want it to replace (check the tracks if you're not sure)

Ehh "set loop" ? I don't understand

Music files also contain metadata. Data such as text. You can use a program - including Winamp - to add "LOOPSTART" text with a value (in this case, the sample offset). The ogg player (if it supports looping) will look for the text LOOPSTART and then return to the sample set here when the music ends. A LOOPEND can also be set if you require it.

You will need to go online and look this up. There are numerous tutorials.

You need: A program that can add tags, such as LOOPSTART with a value (like Winamp)
A player to test the looping ogg on (Winamp works well with plugin vgmstream)
A program to view the wave data with sample number in order to know where to set the loop point. I use Adobe Audition.
A program to save the ogg. I use Adobe Audition.
A good ear. I use mine.
A good eye. I use mine.

Well, how else would your music know when and if to repeat?  This ain't Harry Potter Land.  :-D

It's not that difficult really... as long as you are reasonably PC savvy.  Look at some tutorials and get started.

There is not an easier method to convert mp3 to ogg with repeat function?

No. It has to be done mostly manually.

Really the most difficult part with looping is figuring out where the loop point should be, and adjusting it depending on how the loop sounds.
Sample accuracy can be really nice, but as long as the loop doesn't have a noticeable skip, it should be fine for you.
Really, the first couple times can be rather difficult, but as time goes on it gets easier.

Heh, I'm totally unsurprised it was an RPG Maker site that had this. IIRC, RPG Maker XP was the app that originated the looping OGG format in the first place, back in 2004. Took some time for it to catch on with anyone else.

Sorry for the late respond, but it was converted to ogg a few years ago:

You know, I think earlier in this thread I stated my distaste for remixes (or agreed with DLPB on that).
However, there is one really good remix, and that is the Smash 4 Version of Victory Fanfare. It manages to capture every aspect of the original and truly update it without having to add stupid shit like trap or dubstep.
