I'm really excited to see some u3 based games myself.  In recent years, it feels like the modding scene is not flourishing as it once did.  One big reason is the increasing complexity of modern games.  It's nice to see developers like Valve, Epic, and Stardock provide tools for content creation.  As for Q-Gears, there is no reason to make it something it is not.  Q-Gears is a huge project and shouldn't divert from it's goal.  The ability to play the square jrpgs on modern systems and to create new jrpgs in the style of them.  If it's the Unreal 3 engine eye candy people are interested in, the OGRE graphics engine can handle it.  As Akari and halkun have mentioned in the past, the importance is to complete the reverse engineering for a completed engine, and the flashy graphics can come later. :-)

I would like to see a FF7 project similar to Devil May Cry or Dynasty Warriors play style.  That could suit the UE3 engine well.  Lets just hope Square could let some projects slide and stop with the C&Ds.

Did jari think it was over?

I just figured people would eventually move on.  I pity this person's first ex-girlfriend... or boyfriend.  He's gonna be that dirty stalker in the bushes, sifting through her garbage for strands of her hair.  Then flashes her and her friends at the mall.   (This is assuming of course he gets a girlfriend)

Think I'm joking?  Ask yourself this question.  Why does he keep spamming the forum and others with pr0n?  Because this is a sad individual.  Even several months after an incident that happened on the freaking internet, he refuses to let it go and continues to fuel the nerd rage that boils inside him.  How does he continue to make a further ass of himself?  Because the more energy he puts into these dubious attempts to grief us, the more it shows he lacks a life.

Take a nap, read a book, find Jesus, or in your case look up pr0n.  Whatever makes you relax, cause this is just sad...

You gotta love it when someone will go to these lengths to give people a laugh.  I'm pretty sure that's Duke underneath that ensemble, and we all know what he's got to step out of the house looking like that ...

IMHO it might be a direct translation from Japanese but it doesn't
sound good to someone who SPEAKS ENGLISH. Sure from a  Japanese persons standpoint this probably
would seem like a great idea

Just to put my two cents in, from someone who speaks both languages, "Care" sounds fucking retarded.  But that is just my opinion.  I'm pretty sure that either name for one stupid spell will not effect the "canon" of the entire game/universe/clusterfuck.

Of course you're allowed to do what you want with it.  It's your patch, go ape shit with it.  There's no need to argue about it or have other on the forum argue back.  I can understand your frustration with someone taking your work, as it has happened to me.  The only work I've released publicly on the forum was mashed up and released without any credit towards me until I called them out on it.  Does it leave me feeling jaded?  Sure.  Will I think twice about releasing other projects?  Sure.  But what can you do?  It's the freaking internet, and people can jack your shit in a blink of an eye.  Did that happen?  I don't know, because nothing has been released yet using your work.  It's not like there is anything you can do about the matter, so why sweat over it?  Even if it's kicked off this forum, it could pop up somewhere else, right?  Just use this as motivation and devote your time into creating the best patch/mod you can.

Looks not bad, but what exactly is fractals?

Well I guess the textbook definition of a fractal can be best described here.

The simplest explanation of fractal interpolation I could find can be found here.

But the best visual presentation of it I think is here.

Quote from: Hermoor
That looks like a resize.

Nope not a resize.  Using bicubic smoother image resize in Photoshop and using a fractals plugin yielded different results.

PHOTOSHOP RESIZE

Quote from: Hermoor
You should try some filters on it at least.

Well I hadn't because I wanted to see if this was a viable option before I invested a great amount of time in it.  Just testing the waters you know.

Quote from: Hermoor
And did you try the one i blended together?

I have not.  I was merely posting an example of what fractals can do.  I had gotten the original image from sl1982's post here.  I just grabbed the first pic I saw to whip up a quick example.

So I'm really liking the new textures.  Would it help to have fractals of the originals made just to fill in the gaps until original ones are made?  Granted not much has been altered like pretty filters and such, so I'm sure it could be improved further.

If anyone wants a good laugh, check out Jon Stewart's full interview with Betsy McCaughey.  For those that are unaware, she is the one who "interpreted" the US health care reform bill as having the "death panels."  Putting value on an individuals life and others deciding whether the price of treatment was prudent to keeping the person alive.  I guess she didn't count on the fact that Jon Stewart actually read the document (ZOMG 1000+ pages, no waiz).  Whenever they disagreed about the wording of the document, she said he was wrong in his interpretation.  His rebuttal?  The document was on the desk.  He simply asked her to show him the parts of the bill she was paraphrasing.  She flopped like a fish out of water and made an ass out of herself, even claiming the pages she was citing were missing from the copy.  The full interview could not fit in its entirety, but it is available as extended clips on the website.  The air date of the show is August 20.  I just found it hilarious because the day after this interview Betsy McCaughey "resigned" from her position.  Many feel her position was subject to her own little "death panel" and was out of her hands entirely.

I'm glad you brought up this topic Kudistos Megistos.  I'm not understanding either the Democrats or Republicans actions.  George W. Bush has put the Republican party on life support.  The Republican policies of leaving big business to capitalism and less regulation was part of what led to the economic disaster many Americans face.  The election of the new congress shows many have lost trust in the party.  So why are they playing these games?  If you disagree with some legislation that's fine, but put up a decent argument.  They are doing the same nonsense by having the Fox "News" Network say how there will be death panels deciding your fate.  The Republican party will not earn the trust of a nation back with more lies and fear.  I don't know, they might say the bill contains weapons of mass destruction or something as a last ditch effort.  The Democrats have been held down for years unable to pass their legislation.  They have the power now but they don't have the balls to go along with passing their legislation with the majority in both offices of congress and a new popular president in office.

If others haven't seen the town hall meeting with Barney Frank, it is hilarious.  When challenged about Canada's prescription coverage, he mentioned something along the lines that he hasn't seen a bunch of dead Canadians lying around during his visits.  How is this socialist health care when the private companies still exist?  If you want to see some interesting statistics, try and find the Rachael Maddow show with Bill Maher the other night.  Over 20% of republicans polled believed Medicare was not a government program and over 80% of those polled got their "facts" from the Fox "News" Channel.  If there is gonna be debate both sides need to get their facts straight.

I agree.  When Square Enix shuts down a fan mod, it tends to leave a bad taste in my mouth because it is made by fans with no intention for profit.  In the end I understand it's their intellectual property, so that is that.  This music video, in contrast, is looking to profit by making a poor frame for frame recreation of a Square Enix property.  The large value of the suit is meant to send a message, and I think they made it a clear one.

We should be doing fractal scales and photoshop touchups. I'm wikking to try that. DO they make a fractal plugin for Gimp?

I agree with the fractal suggestion.  Doubling a scene image with a fractal plugin for photoshop yielded these results.

ORIGINAL                     FRACTAL

Granted there hasn't been any touchups but it leaves a good starting point.  I've even done scales to 400% and it still looks good.

Palmer creates 4 .png files for this scene, once I modify them and attempt to import them, I do not see any change.  I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  I am running Vista64, if that could be an issue.

To answer Nahatma's question, the movie has the same frame rate of 15fps.  The testing I had done with other frame rates was puzzling.  If you had a shorter video the game would accelerate the video, it made the video in essence run at a higher FPS.  This was mostly relevant with FF7 1.0, as other patches have come along it appears the game will just hang.  I haven't tried with Aali's patch yet, .7b does not work for me.  The movie patches I release are the same length and frames as the originals.

Otokoshi, good to see someone else rolled up their sleeves and opened up Meteor. It's a fairly easy program to use, it just takes forever to learn the opcodes since the Qhimm Wiki's information - while totally correct - seems REALLY hard to decipher. Certain tasks, like getting an NPC to move how you want it, it also incredibly tedious but that's another topic altogether and irrelevant to movies.

The more I work with Meteor, the more impressed I am by Synergy Blade's work.  This program has a lot of power to alter anything in the game.  The fact you can switch from C style to an assembly style on the fly is great.  I will admit creating scripted events as you mentioned is very tedious.  We've come a long way I'd say.  When I modified the opening scene I didn't deal with the timings, change one you gotta change them all to fit.  So I just put a cheap hack that made the guards not visible until just before their first movements (ie when the train had already stopped)

If I were you I would read up on some of these articles to understand the makings of a game.  With that you can make an informed decision on what direction you'll head in.

GameDev Reference

From there take a look at the forums and workshops there, but read through it before posting.  Find what part of the development you'll be involved in, whether it's programming, modeling, texture artist, game design, etc.  Build up your skills and then make your idea known.  If you come along saying you got ideas, some will not take the project seriously, because people have plenty of ideas but don't execute.  If you present your idea with WIP shots or anything to show someone it will make it easier for others to get behind your project.

As timu sumisu mentioned Blender is an excellent engine/content creation Blender
Ogre3d is an excellent graphics engine Ogre3D
Here is a more in depth list of free game libraries Game Libs

I'm not trying to say you must be an expert to pursue this endeavor.  Some of these projects are great fun if you start with a small group of folks that want to learn along the way with you.  Best of luck.

I can make concessions to people when it is within my own thread.  Why would I take issue with someone necroposting if they were having trouble with my work?  I would want to help them out or have them explain their issue.  Myself, along with many others, flew off the handle with many of your posts which I've already mentioned.  Because you never seem to follow the rules of the forum.  It seems more fitting to either create a topic in Unrelated or PM me if you were so passionate about the topic.  But that would be following forum rules, which I know isn't your style.

Oto you had problems when i was necroposting EVEN when it was relevant to the topic.

I'm not sure what this has to do with this topic Xelane.  I didn't even say I had a problem with the necroposting in my project thread.  This is definitely breaking the rules of the forum, and I don't appreciate it in my thread.  Of course you're used to breaking rules in the forum.  I guess you just tend to hold a grudge longer than most for your early mistakes when you joined.  You must admit you were at one time a serial-necroposter.

Does your "relevant necroposting" include one of the oldest necroposts I've ever seen? Almost 7 years

Or "interrupting" as you put it, an almost year and a half old thread with an unrelated post? Interruption?

Then there was your necroposting on a forum rules thread, that was special... We can debate forum rules?

Of course you have to break the rules by your typing as well.  This thread everyone previously typed clearly in the discussion, until you came in all "short bus" on it.  See a trend

Folks can read on from there to see how this thread started, which lead me to poking fun at your expense for your predictable behavior.

And now with your off-topic post here, are you trying for a six degrees of separation or something?  I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one who had problems with your necroposting on this forum.... so please shush, go back to the corner, and quit shoving crayons up your nose.

Sorry for being misinformed, just correct me, don't act like a jerk. I wasn't trying to be rude, so I'd appreciate it you didn't act so uptight about it.

Well I guess you can't have everything either.  You see, when someone uses your work as their own, and someone who is "misinformed" comes along and calls your work obsolete, it could piss you off a bit.  You did come off as rude in your post.  If you had the solution for TG_Sock the whole time, why didn't you share it with him on your initial post?  You came off a little rude and I called you an asshole, which I apologize for.  It didn't solve anything and calling you that was overkill.  Looks like someone is up to their old ways that deserves that title much more.  Once a troll always a troll I guess.

He does have a point however, the other thread has more videos, making this thread and thus it's contents a little outdated, and "your videos" aren't technically yours, they're property of Square Enix remember, sure a little credit to you would have been nice but in today's world you can't have everything.

That's true they are not mine, but I have given credit where credit is due.  Check my YouTube of this video where people actually believe I created these videos.  I clearly say that it was the Tech Demo for PS3.  I agree that the other thread has more videos.  I personally have never liked the mixing of old with new videos into one as it just looks strange to me.  The "little credit" you speak about is what separates someone using someones work as a source and plagiarizing it.  I don't agree or even understand your argument of "in today's world you can't have everything", it would be nice if people did the decent thing and credit another community members work.

@ TG_Sock
I would rather you or anyone who have general problems with retrieving or using the patch post it here.  I don't check the download links regularly, so if they are down let me know.  If there is a problem with the vids, let me know.  Necroposting is only troubling when it's something completely non-related.  Your post was as you put it "in the interest of the community to discuss" and in my eyes relevant.

@ Tsetra
Don't worry about me.  I'm not one of those that gets a little ticked and "takes his ball and goes home", a trend I've seen a lot here over the past month or so.
So I do think I've found the frame count in the md1stin field, as it's just a simple for loop.  I'm not at that PC at the moment, so I can let you know more on that later either here or PM.  I'll be testing it using a series of videos, extremely short to extremely long, to be certain.

Edit:
Quote from: DragonNinja
A year long bump is still a year long bump, and is against the rules of many forums, a PM to you would have sufficed, however what's done is done.
