« on: 2002-11-29 20:24:54 »
Good Afternoon,
When I play ChocoboWorld for PC I used to hear Chocobo Theme (midi),
but I can't hear it anymore (any suggestions)???

(tsk) Could it be a bug from soundfonts???

I've never, EVER heard it play a MIDI in the background for that game on the pc.  At least, not that I can remember....

It's definatley supposed to have a MIDI.

By any chance, are you using a Yamaha Soft-Synth thing?  Or some other funky MIDI synth?  Or maybe, say, do you have some soundfonts loaded?

I'd say check the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel, Audio tab, make sure your MIDI device is something besides the Yamaha thing.  My demo expired and my music isn't working...

...your other MIDI apps work with no problems?  Like, you open a MIDI in Windows Media Player and it works, right?

Do you have the FF8 Configurator?
You can grab a copy from FFSF.

Anyway, you can use it to try to play your Chocobo world music file (way at the bottom of the list there) and see if it works...  Try it with the same MIDI device you have selected in the control panel.

Yes there definately is Midi... it gets realy (and i mean REALY) annoying after a while though.

Nayoung: Maybe because the Yamaha demo has expired is the reason the Midi has stopped working.

Actually, seeing as that my Yamaha demo expired, until I can spare $50 to register it, I'll be using my SoundBlaster Live! Synth.  Which is indeed, what I have set to Windows default (Sounds and Audio Devices control panel) and FF7.

As far as soundfonts go, I'm using the latest version of Samuel's FF8 DLS, and the Chocobo MIDI seems to work fine with my configuration.  This soundfont is, of course, available from FFSF.

Sorry about that... just a little problem with Samuel's FF8 DLS
Preopening, its fine I guess... but sometimes, time of midi and clips
were miss matched such as, midi is faster then preopening clips...
or slower then preopening clips...
Conclusion time of midi is little off (timing.)

Well, you can always try uninstalling / reinstalling FF8 (to get original soundfont and settings back) and see if that fixes your Chocobo MIDI...

[Edit] Level 50... woohoo!  :P

Sure, and there is down side to that ( Yeah I meant prelude =3 )
I know that will fix the prelude problem,
maybe Samuel should fix this bug!!!

But reinstalling FFVIII wouldn't fix my Chocobo Midi Prob...
(I already tired that long time ago...)

Wait-a-minute.  Do you mean prelude, as in the one heard in the FF9 Mod?

If so, then unfortunately, the bug is occurring by design.  There's a second of blank space in the beginning of the MIDI file used in the FF9 prelude, and I can't get rid of it without messin' up the controllers.  Well, I could, but it would be a LOT of work.....

I couldn't do it right now anyway, since my comp's mobo recently died, and it's off gettin' repaired at a shop, thanks to the warranty....but all my stuff is on there and I can't get to it, so I guess its a moot point anyway....

Oh, well, that's good.  I just wanted to make sure you weren't refering to that, because if you were, then it would be more my job to fix it than his, thats all.

Hi there!
I'm currently searching for differences in midis structure and have found many that I hadn't noticed until then. Among them are tempo not changing at the right time (if it needs to). About the preopening clip, that problem does not occur. It last exactly the same amount of time than the OST (I even listened to both in perfect sync and they finished exactly at the same time). So it may be GRAPHICALLY too slow or too fast... maybe... at least on your computer... What version of directx is installed on your comp? (I can only confirm it works as on my computer with directx 8.0 at least because I modified every midis with DirectX 8.0 release of DirectMusic Producer and cannot try it with directx 7.0.) About the chocobo, does it play in Dag's configurator? (file is "064s-choco.sgt")

BTW, I'll soon release a new version of the DLS (before Christmas for sure). Most songs have been improved and have tempo or notes corrected!

Hello, I fixed the Chocobo MIDI problem!

DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)
About 3RD time running the prelude,
I came across the problem (Samuel's FF8 DLS v1.36)
It doesn't bother me anymore!

Anyway, I look forward to using your new FF8 DLS!

Yeah, maybe it's a little off (I did suspected this earlier but wasn't so sure because I never saw the preopening on the PSX). Adding a 2-3 seconds delay to the midi should fix that, but is there a delay before the preopening start on the PSX, right after the Squaresoft logo?

And I'll need to know when, in the song, exactly does the FF logo appear?
Is it supposed to start appearing when the first of the four last notes is playing?

BTW, what was making the chocobo midi not playing?
