Official support thread for 9999LB Patch.

Some questions & answers:
Quote from: I
Q: What this patch does?
A: It gets rid of 9999 Limit in your FF7 game so your Damage, HP and MP (why not? :P) can go over 9999 now.

Q: How it had been done?
A: Dunno. It's my dog's program.

Q: No really, how it has been done?
A: Do you really want to know? :P

Q: Hey, if the HP can go over 9999, then it won't fit on the screen!
A: My dog has taken care of it. It will fit.

Q: Is this patch compatible with English 1.02 version of FF7?
A: I hope so :).

Q: Is this patch compatible with German/French/Spanish/... 1.02 version of FF7?
A: Probably.

Q: If I run it, will it format my HDD?
A: Yes. And you'll be getting only "F" in school.

Q: Can I get a source code of it? I want to make a better version!
A: PM me.

Q: The link doesn't work!
A: PM me.

Q: I've got some other question.
A: PM me/Post it here.

Patch (http://dziugo.republika.pl/ff7/skerb/patches/LimitBreaking.rar) (see readme inside)

Usage (probably the easiest way):
   1) Download both files and unpack them
   2) Put patch.srb with ff7.exe and Skerb.exe
   3) Run Skerb.exe and press any key when it asks you to do so
   4) Rename ff7.exe to something like backup_ff7.exe
   5) Rename patched_ff7.exe" to ff7.exe
   6) Check if it works

If there was any error message, you've probably done something wrong. Recheck everything, see both readmies and try again. If there is still a problem, PM me or post it here.

Enjoy!

A question:

What place of order in the current generation of enhancements should this patch be applied in?  For instance, does Saint's work or do the model replacements mess with the patch's viability?  I know that Saint's changes the .exe a bit.

If nobody knows, I'll make a few .exe backups and experiment.  But I was curious if anyone had tried it yet.

Dzuigo, it is a GREAT job, it'll have a feature that no FF game ever had, FFX could only limit to 99999, but we can do damage as much as we want, the only thing that needs to be changed now is the statistic sytem to unlimtied.

You used the right word. It will (probably, someday). Right now, the cap is just higher than 9999, but still below 99999. It would require heavy modifications to be done to game engine to go above 100k... Sorry...

And... Maybe i should change my nick? dzuigo looks nice too :)

I have always liked FFX sphere grid and was wondering...would it be possible to insert that as your leveling system? That way it would be easy to go over 10 k. The only thing I would guess would screw up is the weapons, armour etc. adding stats (appart from the major programming screw around). Actually.....i guess it would take like a year to fully convert FFX's leveling system lol.

I am not sure how posible that is seeing ff10 was never release for pc and it might just be easer to just remake the game from scratch insted of trying that

Great thing, this patch :), though I  have 1 question:
Is there a technical possibility of inceasing the MAX HP beyond the 18506 limit, MAX MP 1746 limit, and MAX DAMAGE beyond 30k, in the future??

I played the game, and after equiping a certain number of mp+ nad hp+ materia it doesn't seem to make any change in the values...

I have been able to get my max hp to about 20k but that seams to be the limit

also I can't do close to that much damage. with a few hero drinks and useing a save editor to give me max states I can do only about 15k with a limit attack (yuffie can do about 30k but she only hits once)

Max HP, MP and Damage is set to 30k. IIRC, HP+ materia can only double your current amount of HP (max is +100%), that's why your HP stopped at certain point.

I'd say, almost impossi... Hmm... Very difficult. The amount of HP/MP is stored in 2 bytes (if that says anything to you :P), so the max for now is 65535 (unsigned - something that I'm forcing FF7 to use, with no luck :-?) and current limit is 32767 (signed).

Does it really matter if you do more then 30k dmg, have over 20k hp etc.? With that much hp dmg etc. you would be invincible, not even weapon would kill you.

There was a little cheating involved :P. I've changed the amount of HP manually.

And: good to hear that it works with non-english (french, right?) version of FF7.

About ff7che:  copyright 1998 CH Khor.

I'd put the email here, but it'd probably get harvested by a bot.

Aso, dziugo, you used the version of Jenova that can't edit stats.  You should probably use the fixed version that was recently posted on this site and edit that one.  Of course, that's up to you, it just means using two copies of the tool to do both things for us, which really isn't a big deal.

Accidentally put in a hint? Thanks. I hope that you won't copy and sell "your FF7" (it's your right? so why it's called piracy?).

The answer is: it's not "your FF7". You own the CDs, but not the data that are on them. You can't become an owner of software by bying a user license (which you got bying FF7). If you want it to be your FF7, buy the full license from Eidos/Square/Whoeverelse, I'm sure you can afford it.

Oh, and how is that connected with the 9999LB patch?

Nope, you own a license, and you can sell it. You cannot however reproduce it (the content). Hey, why don't you just go and read something about EULAs instead of trying to bent my arguments?

Claude: the basic point is, NOBODY "owns" ANY the games they buy.  All you're buying is the license that says that you are legally allowed to run the game on your computer.

So really, all you're buying is a 5k text document; the rest of the game content just comes -with- the EULA =)

Im a little confused,

I understand the license agreement, and that you do not own the code behind the game. But what is the legal standpoint of the patches? Since your screwing about with the game code do you have to buy the code off squareEnix before your start creating patches?

Sorry for the noobish question and taking away from the actual thread.

It's not a difficult question, but there is no simple answer. To make it clear:
I'm not legally allowed to reverse engineer FF7. You are not legally allowed to use any patch I make...

User's license is not enough to do such things, and buying code (only the code) from Square also won't be enough to distribute it freely.

Dzuigo, it is a GREAT job, it'll have a feature that no FF game ever had, FFX could only limit to 99999, but we can do damage as much as we want, the only thing that needs to be changed now is the statistic sytem to unlimtied.

AFAIR in the german version (at least) Anima's Oblivion (called here: "Chaos-D") in the SHORT version brings over 1 million right on the screen, as one number o_o*

My question: Does anyone have problems with the patch in combination with other patches (and there are many, many other patches, like f.e. the hardcore patch, Reunion-Patch, etc.)

And. I'm still working on a german FAQ, so: Will you give me the permission to upload and link the file for that FAQ/Guide, dziugo ? >_<

If there are any incompability issues, they are fixed (there was one problem with The SaiNt's HiRes and MGP).

You can use my links (because then I'll keep a track of downloads per file :P), but it's OK if you upload them somewhere else. And of course you do have my permission :P

Well, Final Fantasy VIII, with some attacks, can break the 9,999 damage limit.

All it would need is to apply that "property" to every attack, right? I don't know about breaking the health limit, though...

I seem to only be doing under 11k damage.

I gave my people max stats (to test)
and am doing a limit break that only hits once.

Am I doing something wrong? :?

Um...it doesn't? If Cloud's at low HP, obviously, he's not dealing 10,000+.

I think he means.
If cloud has 10k hp and his Hp is full, would he be doing more damage than a cloud with 9,999 HP.

If that is the case, no, he does more damage if his hp is full regardless of his max HP. (at least, last I checked >_>)

His sword is proportional, not number based. You see the bar beneath his HP? It's what that bar is at is what determines his damage, and the bar never lengthens or decreases in total width throughout the game.

That's a good question. I don't think there are some unsolved bugs, but this version differs from the version you can download from the YAMP thread, and I can't remember if it's something more than an optimization. I'm planning to update it all, but we'll see how it turns out.

I'm lost as to how the "9999 Limit Break" patch is suppose to work. It would be great if someone could help me out.

I downloaded the patches from a torrent site, not sure which one. Anyway, in the torrent was a folder called "3. YAMP - Yet Another Multi-Patcher by dziugo" which had the "9999 Limit Break" patch amongst others. Csith, LuckyTifa, Highway & Snowboard mini-games etc. I followed the read-me file that was with it exactly, though every time I try to active the patches using a file called "install", It says something like "somethings gone wrong....dunno what." "No patching today". I thought I was missing a file of some sort, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Then I tried the patches available for download which was in dziugo's first post for this thread. I followed the read-me files exactly again, but they would'nt work either. Something about "Could'nt create output file: patched_ff7.exe" "ERROR Patch could'nt be applied" etc. So now I'm kinda stuck, and which patch out of the two I have, am I meant to use exactly.

Ok, possibly fixed. Download the newest version of YAMP from the YAMP thread (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.0). You have to run the "install.bat" as the administrator, or copy everything to some non-protected folder.

From now on, don't post in this thread. You won't get a helpful response from me if you do. Really.

The yamp install.bat doesn't work for me - it creates a 0kb ff7.exe.
It's ok, though, cause 9999limitbreak and the transparent text bubble patches are installable in their old forms.

I just started playing ff7 and added this patch (followed the instructions given) . When i run the game, there was no difference to cloud's hp or mp or his LB. HI!

I have a question...

I noticed that the limit given by the patch was 30.000HP,
but I make some wanted to know if it were possible to pass this limit to 60.000HP,
because since the possible limit is of 65.535HP…

Thus I wanted to know if it is possible to change this limit,

PS: I know with YAMP it's possible, but tested without success
Title: Re: BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread

The bytes determining HP and MHP are signed. What does this mean :?,  I don't really know, but I do know that it allows negative values and that it stops them going above 32 767, so that's the limit and that's why you aren't having any success :-(
Title: Re: BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread

Allow me to elaborate on this train of thought.

WARNING: High-level tech talk approaching!!
HP and MP are both stored as 16-bit (16 binary digits) whole numbers. This gives them a range of 65536 (or 2^16) values to represent. However, when the most significant bit it set (bit number 16), then the value becomes negative. It's not a negative sign, but it does indicate a negative number. If that bit is set and the number is stored as a signed value then 2^(number of bits) is subtracted from the value of the other bits.
Example (in binary):
Code: [Select]
Binary Value;      Signed Decimal Equivalent; Unsigned Decimal Equivalent
0110111001010110   28246                      28246
1000101101011101   35677-65536= -29859        35677

The basic formula for this calculation is:
Code: [Select]
SignedValue = (StoredValue AND (2^(Sizeinbits - 1) - 1)) - (2^(Sizeinbits) * (StoredValue >> (Sizeinbits - 1)))This probably looks disorienting to someone who doesn't understand bit-wise operations. If this is your case then either look up a bit-wise AND and binary operation >> or just ignore this all together. :)
End High-level tech talk

Mechanics aside, healing is calculated as negative damage so attacks are calculated as a signed value. If your characters' damage weren't capped to be within range of this signed value then they'd basically just screw up and heal instead of cause damage.
Title: Re: BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread
Post by: Kudistos Megistos on 2008-12-27 05:31:40
OK, I think that I understand what's going on now, and I see why damage is a signed value, but why current and max HP and MP? The bytes for enemy HP and MP aren't signed AFAIK, so what is different about the way player character HP and MP values are stored?

You downloaded a disc image so no one will help you since that's illegal and against forum rules to talk about.

I know some weapons, like Tifa's powersoul, have that effect.  Maybe the Ultima Weapon does too?  You could always check out Wall Market (or maybe Proud Clod) and see what type of effects come with the sword

yeah but in wallmarket its the right setting of the weapon , the weapon is supposed to do more damage when Cloud have hi-hp

I am having a weird issue with this patch. My regular attacks do over 20k damage but mu Omnislash only does about 5000 per hit. Anyone know why?
Title: Re: BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread
Post by: Kudistos Megistos on 2009-09-17 19:08:13
Because Omnislash always does less damage per hit than normal attacks?

It also doesn't take into account Cloud's HP when he uses Ultima Weapon, since limit breaks don't have the damage modifiers of the weapon's characters have equipped when using them.

This doesn't seem strange to me at all.

If you want to improve it, start farming power sources :P

Or hex edit the .exe to give Onmislash a different damage modifier or higher attack power :-D

I would edit the exeecuteble except I have no idea where to start and which values to edit. My experience with hex editing is quite limited at best. I guess I will look around.

Cool
but won't it unbalance the game?

AHEM!

And the 9999 limit break doesn't really unbalance the game; if your levels are high enough for it to make a difference, the game will be easy whether or not you use the patch.

If you use a hardcore mod, the 9999 limit breaking patch should improve the game a lot.

I agree that this really wouldn't unbalance the game. It would unbalance it in the same way it unbalanced FFX, by the time you got to breaking 9999, you were too strong for anything in game anyway. I wish they had made VII harder than they did... it's too easy to hold X through every regular battle.... 4x cut and KoTR are too OP.... I mean yea, KoTR is harder to get, but still. And the master materia are kinda... wow.

How do I know if the patch worked? I just installed the game and installed the Remix patch, so I'm not that far into the game yet. But I don't see any graphical changes in the battle interface to harbor the extra digits for HP an MP. I tried the manual patch, but it said it failed when the DOS window opened... Any assistance would be awesome, thanks!

well, the time and limit guage in battle will look like your barrier/mbarrier gauges, and you'll notice another digit space on your HP/MP bars.

Yeah, I don't see any of that. Curious; do I have to apply the official patch from Square before applying any others like this one?

You need 1.02 patch for just about any mod out there... I think. Either way, it's just a good idea to have :P.

On another note, anyone think it would be possible ever for FF7 to have a true break the damage limit? Like, there is no cap? Or it's so high we'd never see it? Or even at the very least a true 99,999.

I got it working, so it's all good now. I didn't have to apply the official patch.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the true "limit" would be 65535 (or something like that) can anyone confirm?

No, if I am right, the actual limit will be a signed 16 bit value, so although sense has a unsigned limit (65335), actual HP stat is 32767. Which is why Dziugo limited to 30000 as default.  To make it  a nice round number.  Changing that to work at 65535 shouldn't be impossible... but you'd have to ask Dziugo.  He will know all about this.

I did do.  It would require reprogramming in ff7.exe.  To make it 99999 would be a very hard task that is unlikely ever to be done.  Even 65535 might not be possible without significant changes.

You'd need to find space for the two extra bytes and shift other stuff out of the way. This means hunting down LOTS of pointers, and is probably not possible within a reasonable timeframe. You might have to wait for Q-Gears to be completed instead.

Ok but i was talkin about the second question : how to make 30000/30000 hp without using hp plus materia ?
Title: Re: BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread
Post by: Livesey on 2012-08-17 17:33:49
Try having Barrett at lvl 99 with all materia slots filled with mastered HP plus if that doesn't work... I don't know what would hit the cap.

[EDIT] My bad I forgot how to read for a second apparently... I would imagine it impossible to achieve what you are trying in-game. you would have to alter the characters HP growth I guess.

Sometimes when i attack, i cant see the number becaus there is write "iM   ss" but i can see the monster die ... Is that because i'm doing HP damage more than 32767 ?

Is it Vincent attacking? What are your thresholds for HP/Damage?

Use YAMP (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.0) and rename the ff7_en.exe file to ff7.exe when patching (then rename it back to ff7_en.exe). Should work.

I have already tried, but it does not work as well, I rename the FF7_en.exe to ff7.exe, and run the install.bat, the problem shows: "patch done."  but but ff7.exe turns to 0 bytes(5,858 kb befroe patch), I can't run the game.

Here also followed the debug txt, please kindly check:

Sorry, but ff7_en.exe should be about ~14MB in size. Restore the original file and try again.

If you only have a cracked version, then sorry, but we don't actually support pirated copies.
