I own the game on steam, and I've tried everything I can think of to trick the game into displaying japanese, and obtaining a legal japanese copy seems impossible as well.
Any solutions? I thought there'd be a mod by now, and I considered figuring out how to do it myself, but I have no idea if the western steam copy even has a japanese script inside.

When I installed Skyrim on Steam and then installed some mods my game crashed. From logs it turned out that the mod doesn't work with Polish language. I was able however to download English version and dialogues/all the files by simply changing Steam language to English (not the interface).  Try it if you can select Japanese.

Thank you. I tried your suggestion, and it redownloaded the game files, but the game is still stuck in English. The developers really did their best hiding the Japanese script.
