I can tell you the reason that simply changing the flag on your save state didn't work. The characters's alternate outfits are completely different characters in the game scripts. They don't share the same event logic, and they don't appear in every area.

WIP / Re: [In Development] FF8 Voiceover Project
« on: 2016-03-18 04:19:48 »
Within the next few weeks, I'm going to post a re-cast thread for the roles that weren't originally cast and for the roles that have become available due to some actors not being able to finish the project. Most of the characters that have been recorded have been completed, it's just a matter of recording for characters that don't have actors yet. The percentage posted is still fairly accurate.

BGM is BackGround Music. Are you looking for a list of sound effects? There's one for FF7 and one for FF8 somewhere in the audio mods section I think.

I so badly would like this mod :)
This isn't a mod. It's a tool you can use to make mods without changing any game files.

Those of you in the US who are eligible to vote and currently support Clinton or Trump, I honestly want to know what the fern is wrong with you.

What is the appeal of Hillary Clinton? Are you just so stupid and tunnelvisioned that you don't remember anything she says 5 minutes after she says it? If you tell me one thing she said that you agree with, there's a 95% chance I can find a video of her saying exactly the opposite. She's a chronic liar. She's just good at telling stupid people what they want to hear.

What is the appeal of Donald Trump? Ok, what I really mean here is, even if you think Trump is a good candidate, are you willing to risk putting Sarah Palin in a position of power? Voting for any ticket with her name on it should be considered treason because it will undoubtedly cause the government to collapse. I'm being completely serious. The only people who would ever vote for her are people who want to see the country fail. She's had 8 years of practice since the last election and she still can't complete a sentence.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. Most of the people in this community are pretty bright.

FF8 Tools / Re: [FF8] DelingScript
« on: 2016-01-26 00:26:34 »
V0.3 is out. It will convert both ways, and comments in the script are supported. ("//" style)

Not all functions get converted nicely yet. They still work but they look ugly.

I'm mainly looking for bugs at this point. If you convert something back and forth, it should be functionally identical to how it started. If you find a piece of assembly that doesn't convert to how it functionally started, please post the assembly.

57
No, because our files will only work with our translated script, which hasn't been released yet (and won't until the project is done).

Ficedula has a few sounds in the wall market area, and he has replaced the sound that plays when you walk onto a save point.

I've just heard of this project, and I'm happy to go with Dyne if you don't have anyone else for the job.

When I looked at your thread on another forum, I didn't find any lines to go off with Dyne. Is there anything you'd have me say?
Do you have a voice demo you can link us to? If not, you can send an audition to [email protected]

We want to see your range and acting talent. Record a few of the characters from the forum thread.

FF8 Tools / First non-working version
« on: 2015-12-23 18:13:28 »
Ok, I've "finished" the assembly -> script translation part. Anyone who's curious is free to take a look at it and give suggestions. Especially feature suggestions. This is a very, very early version so it's going to be kinda rubbush :P

DelingScript v0.1

Run the jar file, put the Deling assembly code on the right, click the left arrow.

Oh, and the lines with _ before them mean I haven't converted those yet. Eventually every opcode will be supported. That's just temporary.

FF8 Tools / Re: FF8 Scripting Language
« on: 2015-12-22 18:10:25 »
Translated Op Codes for the FF8 field editor would be great; would be very interested in testing/using it. Is there a compiled list of the translated OpCodes for FF8's field script kept anywhere? I looked at the Wiki, but it seems a bit vague with a lot of them.
Was it this one? That's the most complete list of them. I was able to document about half of them before I lost my mind.

FF8 Tools / [PSX/PC] DelingScript
« on: 2015-12-21 23:23:18 »
So, I'm making a tool primarily for my use in editing FF8 field scripts that will transform the assembly-like instructions from Deling into a more workable format. I'll be uploading unfinished versions to get feedback and bug reports.

DelingScript v0.3

Instructions
Run the jar file, put the Deling assembly code on the right, click the left arrow.

Lines with _ before them have no conversion yet. Someday they all will. Right now over half the opcodes are supported.

Current features:
  • Converts Deling's assembly-like code to a format with syntax similar to C/Java/Python etc.
  • Converts the script-like syntax back to assembly. Supports all functions.
  • Removes redundant jumps and labels.
  • Removes some dead script code.
  • Allows comments
  • Customizable function names (for all you non-English people).

Planned features:
  • Ability to click or highlight a function and get documentation for what it does.
  • Syntax Highlighting.

It's in early development, so post any features or suggestions you want to see out of it. ALso post any bugs you find, because we all want it to be bug free when it's done.

Very cool!

Honestly, you're better off writing your own engine in 2016 rather than decompiling code from 1995-1996. Take advantage of new technology. This is what QGears is aiming to do, except it's not very active right now.

Did the Squall Voice Actor finish his lines?
No. In fact, he has the most lines left to do.

Quote
Will there be some sort of effect over Squalls voice acting in regards to his internal thoughts? I.e will we be able to "hear" that they are thoughts?
Yes. His inner dialogue will be echo-ey.

Quote
I don't mean to tell you how to do your "job" but maybe it would be worth recruiting a single voice actor at a time and doing all their lines in isolation?
My free time isn't an issue. Every actor who has finished recording (or at least gotten to the 99% point) did it in just a few months, I was working with all of them concurrently. The problem is that sometimes it's hard for the actors to find a time that's convenient for them. (Also, now that I'm employed, I'm unavailable for 9 hours each weekday).

Quote
E.g. hiring an actor for Squall - recording all his lines intensively for 3 months and integrating into the game.
Nobody is making any money off this. I intend to keep it that way.

Quote
Finally, if things did, unfortunately, go wrong and the mod could not be finished - is it in such a state that everything you have done thus far could be released?
As far as the scripting, yes. Check the Hacktuar thread for details on that. As far as voices go, since only about 1/3 of the voices are working, I feel it would detract from your play experience, rather than enhance it. You would be playing what clearly feels like an unfinished project. I won't release any voice files until the project is at least 95% voiced, and that would only be for prerelease testing.

Quote
when I replay the game with your mod in it I will have to honour your efforts and rename one of the characters Shard (maybe Selphie? She is the optimistic one after all...).
In FF8 you can only name Squall, Rinoa, the dog, and the GFs. Unfortunately this is not a feature I can change (I tried :P).

When this releases, you can show your support by having Square hire me and my actors to voice the English FF8 remake that, if trends continue, they will make for 2019.

WIP / Winter Update
« on: 2015-11-15 23:30:02 »
Hey guys. I know the project must look dead or dying, so I wanted to give you all an update and let you know where we are right now.

Over 1/3 of the lines are finalized and are working in the game. Many of the talented actors that signed up for this project have finished all or most of their lines. All of the technical work is done (with the exception of the Zell minigame I'm adding, which is still in progress). Every time I have to playtest the mod, I end up playing way longer than I have to because everything sounds so good.

Things have slowed down recently because a few of the actors have dropped from the project over the last year without finishing their lines (luckily some of them didn't even start their lines so I lost nothing). In the next few months I will be looking for people to replace them, as well as try to cast the remaining parts that weren't cast previously (a few of the minor roles are still up for grabs).

The project will kick back into full gear once I get those roles sorted out and those actors begin recording. Thank you all for being so patient and supportive. I can't wait to get this out to all of you.

7th Heaven / Re: Modified music not looping
« on: 2015-10-14 23:28:43 »
He already stated in his initial post he does have a loopstart tag
The original post said he only had a LOOPLENGTH tag.

Try giving it a LOOPSTART and a LOOPEND tag. Sometimes players don't like when only one is there.

You need a loopstart tag.

You'll probably want to look for the JUNCTION and DYING opcodes. I don't know exactly what DYING does, but it has something to do with resetting the party's health or something.

General Discussion / Re: Midgar GLSL Shader
« on: 2015-08-24 22:00:25 »
I didn't do it. I just found it.

I'm sure the author spent months tuning it. I spent about 2 months just making a nice looking sky system in glsl.

73
Ok I tested it and it's very useful and the size column is useful but I wonder if you can add an offset column too
The offsets to what? The offsets to the sound in the dat are unpredictable unless you know the structure of your dat file. My program actually rebuilds the dat, removing any unused and/or blank data, so the offsets will change every time a sound is added, changed, or removed.

The offsets in the fmt file are also unpredictable, since blank entries take up (35?) bytes, while usable entries take up 70 bytes. Inserting and/or removing sounds changes the offsets of every entry after it.

Can you be a little more descriptive about what offsets you need and what you need the offsets for?

74
For me it looks like sarcasm. ???
I suspected that until I got to one of the good ideas. I've dealt with enough bad game designers that I can smell the "throw every idea I've ever had into a pot" design mistake from miles away.

75
What I'm wishing for in the remake.

1. not a remake but a sequel. fern having to play the same story.
2. I want to be able to play everyone. Zack, Angeal, Kadaj, Hojo, Sephiroth and anyone else already dead. Make it so that you can recruit anyone.
3. everyone's advent children outfit+ fusion sword
4. motorcycles maybe in battle as well. idk how but find a way
5. Maybe new outfits for everyone? if they suck we can always not use them.
6. I want to see Honey Bee Inn in its full ultimate glory. idc make it rated M prob will make the game better.
7. new game+  with normal, hard, and insane difficulty options.
8. turn based: honestly, I wouldn't mind if they used ffxv's battle system but leaning more towards turn based.
9. Give every American release a Japanese voice with English subtitles options.
10. lastly I hope they dont fern up Cloud overall appearance or anyone else's for that matter. He looks pretty derp in the new dissidia game. Just make him look exactly like in the ps3 demo or advent childern movie.
Sorry, but...

No buts. You know better than to speak like that. ~EQ2Alyza
