Everyone likes to play their own way but the way i view it if its hardcore there shoudln't be any unlimited sources to make all characters exact carbon copies.
Thats why i said leave it till disk 3, on disk 3 you start off in the cave & most people just go straight down... that way you would have the choice for those who want to go searching the world for more source's, for those people not to have to waste so much time doing it. But i dont think its possible anyway, i dont think there is any disk 3 exclusive monsters to fight out on the world map.

edit:
I restarted the game from the start (because i deleted my save game by accident :( ). The balance is much better, and i noticed that there seemed to be alot more use of status effects which was excellent.

Well Kashmir, your definitely entitled to your opinion. But i would encourage others to make their own mind up about this film. Hades your more than welcome

Think for yourself, question authority.

There's obviously nothing wrong with thinking for yourself or questioning authority, but to come to conclusions and act on something because of false claims in a film like this, can be very dangerous for everybody involved, especially in a country with such pathetic gun laws. I highly suggest that films such as this not be recommended to people who aren't going to check out the facts for themselves, especially in regards to religion & law... a lot of the information given from the film was very mis informative. If you don't believe me, then feel free to stop paying your taxes like the two actor's claimed they were doing, you will only end up getting your ass shanked in a prison cell for tax evasion. The truth about films such as these, is simply that they sell to the very people they claim to be trying to inform.

There are no Source drops beside the standard ones.
It would be good if you could make source drops available on the world map on disk 3, but i don't thinks its possible. Having to morph sources from monsters is too much of a pain for me to ever want to do.

edit:
Finally got through the whole film... i must say, it started out really interesting, and then it went down as a steaming sack of sh!t as it turned into a lame conspiracy theory film with a terrible voice over.

There is a MDef bug in the game (if you didn't know). No equipment gives you any MDef what so ever. Spirit = MDef. Thats why I added the same amount of Spirit bonus to defensive equipment as there should be MDef bonus.
For instance: Iron Bangle has a +2 MDef. But it doesn't add +2 MDef. It does, however, have a +2 Spirit bonus. The Spirit increases with 2 and thus the MDef does as well.
Okay, sounds good.... i knew there was a bug with it, but i this is the first solution i've ever heard for it, well done :D

And i agree with the changes to materia, i never used coin and i always prefered to use 2x cut instead of flash.

Can i make a request for some changes to materia? currently the way in which materia effects stats is pitiful, for e.g.
Ice:
Strength -01
Magic +01
MaxHP -02
MaxMP +02

is it possible to change them so it becomes like this instead
Strength -10
Magic +10
MaxHP -20
MaxMP +20

The reason i would like everything multiplied by at least ten is because i like to equip different materia based upon the role ive assigned each character, for example.. barret is my tank, so his equipped with nothing but cover materia & put in the back row.. that way he takes all the melee damage in combat at half the value, and i only ever need to heal him. however the bonus to vitality is only +1 for each cover materia, at the moment his only got four... so +4 vitality, thats just lame... now +40 would be excellent.

Heya i only just noticed this had been updated :P

Could you explain why the following changes were made:
    * Flash commando is removed (could easily be brought back if you want this custom made lol).
    * Master Command works as Coin, and Coin command is removed from Throw materia (Could also be brought back).

    * MDef on equipment is fixed. Not by adding MDef but Spirit. : And how does this work in a bit more detail please.

Keep it coming. I'll jot it down. Is it total overkill or can you survive on full hp? I kinda wanted the Hell-house to be hard. I'll figure out some kind of reward for killing it this early.
You have to use cure almost every second round... even when you have 3 people later on its still a difficult encounter. I was expecting a bucket load of exp & gp for killing it, was so disappointed when i got virtually nothing. After the train graveyard you can cut off 1000hp of it by using a grav ball. I've lost against it twice, so yeah its definitely overkill.

I would've just run from it, but i use that particular area i gather gp to buy materia & items in the shops nearby.

A whole lot of gp might make it worth it... like 2000 perhaps? nobodys going to wanna sit there killing heaps of them.

One I think also may be too hard is Jenova Life. I'll wait for that.
Thats the encounter on the boat right? I'll look out for it, but i doubt it will be too hard... normally you have a fair amount of materia (elemental in particular) to play with by then, also its a boss, so its okay to loose against it a few times as long as its possible to beat.

Thanks for the review Kashmir. you're statements seems very reasonable. I thought the 1st and 2nd reactor may have turned too hard and it can easily be fixed with more exp and higher drop rates.

Another encounter you might want to change is hell-house. Trying to fight this thing with just cloud and aeries is dam hard. Currently it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to kill it, and if you have someone in the front row it can kill them in one go.

After the initial hard difficulty of the start of this one, it seems to get reasonable from after the section i was talking about.

Completely Unrelated / Re: Anime is like watching an RPG
« on: 2007-06-29 08:34:13 »
...or at least Castle in the Sky was. Frankly, that was the first anime movie I have bothered to sit through, and it gave me the feeling that I had just beaten a really good RPG. Castle in the Sky in particular reminded me of Chrono Trigger (Zeal, etc.).

Anyway, are there any other good anime movies (I don't really want to get into a series) I should watch? I really don't watch anime, and nor do my friends, so I'm at a loss on what to watch next. If anyone knows of some other good ones out there like Castle in the Sky, let me know, please.

RPGillespie
Castle in the sky(aka laputa) come's from studio ghibli, which is basically the japanese version of walt disney. There not what i would classify as anime but still good none the less.

I recommend you watch the following ghibli films: (in order of best to worse)
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Spirited Away
- Princess Mononoke (Ghibli's best seller)
- Porco Rosso
- The Cat Returns
- Grave of the Fireflies
... i wouldn't bother with the others, some are not so good imo.

Quote
Hellsing
Dont bother with hellsing just yet. The series is in the process of being completely re-animated (better animation & more gore, better sound, proper cinematic widescreen) to make it more accurate with the comics. Look up Hellsing:Ultimate to see what im talking about, there is a trailer of it on their website at http://hellsing.pioneeranimation.com/

Other Fav's:
- Cowboy BeBop (series)
- Akira: Special Edition
- Vampire Hunter D(1980's classic) & Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust (the character of d is illustrated by the same artist as the original final fantasy designers)
... and too many others.

I just finished my first test run of the hardcore mod. First up and i would have to say that it certaintly lives up to the name... its more like a hardcore for cyborgs on crack mode.

This is my mini review of sections: No.1 Reactor(start) up to Sector7 Slums(second checkpoint in game)
- battle difficulty = Excellent but not perfect
- Creature speed should be lower because the player only has 2 party members in this part of the game.
- exp gained was much too low, it felt too much like a mmorpg level grind, it took me a 1hour and 30 minutes to complete just this section. However i probley wouldn't have cared about leveling if i could have just gained enough potions to go fight the boss already.
- potion drops should be set to 100% so the player can build up a collection of them easier... trying to collect 10 potions was the main reason this section took me so long
- Plume Bolt was a nice touch, a tactic i tried to use was to use the plume bolt just to gain another one, by doing so level up quicker, which didnt work because i couldnt get enough potions to keep me healthy. In the end having one came in real handy for escaping the reactor without dieing.
- grenades, considering this is the only part of the game where they can be usefull you probley should make them easier to get & from more enemies.
- assault gun: this can be bought in the very first store the player comes across, hence it should be removed from guard scorpion to give the player the choice of whether he wants to buy it or not... change the reward to something else, perhaps a tent or a couple of those bolt plumes would be handy.

Hows this mod going along? is it complete... as in can i play the game start to finish on with harder difficulty?

Just a little something that might help.
From what i remember the starting character's speed for each character in the party is 255/3 = 85, with dexterity & agility haveing no recognisable impact of their speed. so imo each monsters speed should be also set to 85... the default monster speed is much lower, even most bosses only get to attack once for 2 of yours.
One other thing that always annoyed me is monsters with spell casting abilities need to have their mp + magic str multiplied by at least 10, as theres nothing sadder than seeing a creature cast demi only to take off 12hp.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Is this possible?
« on: 2007-02-02 07:18:20 »
Can anybody tell me if its possible, rather than to mod all the creature stats in the scene.bin file, could you instead have a program that runs in the background while you play that mods a particular value whenever it changes?

For example, when it detects that the memory location that stores the experience value has changed then change to value to equal half... or something like that.

Or would the memory location change each time the program is run?

Does anybody have any insight as to whether this is possible?

41
Hey um, this is sort of related i guess.

i have the source code for two scene.bin editors which i made if anyone wants them... the problem is they are both incomplete on their own... but together they would make a pretty good complete app, i just never got around to finishing it off & probley never will.

The 1st scene editor had all the functionality for editing & saving the files themselves but got corrupted during a hd screwup, but 99% of the code is still intact.

The 2nd scene editor is fine but can only load scene.bin files and extract the .gz or .scn files. note: the gzip functionality provided by the .net is okay for extracting scene files but does not have the ability to recompress the files correctly... so proper gzip from http://www.gzip.org/ would have to be implemented if you wanted to reconcatinate the scene.bin file

Oh yeah, and understanding the code might be somewhat difficult :| , it would probley take 3 days for to complete the editor. They were also written when i was somewhat inexperienced so expect some stupidity in some places. It would be better/faster to make the application from scratch useing the code purely as reference. without the code as reference it would probley take about 2week to make the application with it it should only take 3 days... much longer if you dont work on it often.

Oh yeah, and ombra is right... if you are going to make changes to the scene.bin file you will have to modify the kernel, the smallest change to some parts makes the recompression come out too big screwing everything up, so if you are going to want to edit the scene.bin you might as well do it right and mod the kernal as well. However with that said, i couldnt find any information within the wiki as to the details of whats in the kernal to mod it myself so i dont actually know whether modding the kernal will work or not, but theres only one way to find out right?

If I'd have cancer or something, I'd kill a hundred babies to live, f*** babies, I'm more attached to myself then a f***ing vomiting baby.

You can cry in a corner and be sad and go be a superhero who saves babies, till you're in the hospital at the end of your life and doc comes up to you: "I'm sorry sir, but we COULD save you with a fresh new healthy baby we can cut open but you and others decided to rather die in a moment like this, have fun"

Then I'd laugh in your face and then... then you die!
And I won't cus I'll be illegally be cutting babies open for treatment.

You seriously need to get off the meth & see a psychiatrist.

Unlike you i have no fear of dying and quite frankly look forward to it, hell i couldn't care less if i died painfully in a car crash tommorrow, ive lived mylife and enjoyed it and when i go there will be plenty more people like me to take my place. You will die one day, whether it be by car accident or old age and whats left when you die alone & miserable, huh? nothing but a dead featal corpse and a jar full of pot... no ones even going to care because you couldnt give a sh_t about anyone else other than your greedy self.

I hope you like being alone & miserable because thats all your ever going to be.

For those who dont have younger siblings ill give you some idea as to what there thinking, its pretty obvious from there expressions.

Its "AHHH F_CK IM IN PAIN..."

Babies are loaded with just about every bad disease so they can get a imunity to them at a time in their life where they wont remember the pain of it latter in life. The first two years of taking care of a baby is spent cleaning up diareer and vommit and regular visits to a doctor. Once there eyes open and they start to be able to crawl they will chase after anything and everything, their inquisitiveness and curiousity knows know bounds.

By the time they are 2 they can clearly speak and think on their own. 2 years isnt a very long time and it all goes by all too quickly.

But thats all beside the f_cking point, how well babies can think or not has got absolutely nothing to do with anything. The child was stolen from its parents and denied any chance of life for a F_CKING PROFIT, you cannot buy life, you cannot buy the chance to live, You get one chance to live and one chance only. Nobody
else should be aloud to make the decision for you.

Not only that but the technology is currently unproven and undeveloped... its just has potential, just like how the child has the potential to grow up and solve the problem himself.

@chaos control
So what, should the rich just get whatever the f_ck they want in life now? should they? Should they just be excussed from murder altogether just becuase they make more money... f_ck no. How about we just start havesting kidneys from healthy people while their under the knife, so we can have two unhealty people instead of one... and also so i can fatten my wallet. Or how about i kill you and steal your f_cking heart next time you visit the doctor to replace my unhealthy one.

Quote
I don't really care about babies being murderen so we can (possibly) help older people who have a concious and are developed enough to think
So who are these others concious and developed enough to think, huh? clearly not you thats for sure.

Oh yeah and the best point of all.
http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/paperchase/2006/12/australia-ends-ban-on-stem-cell.php
SO WHY THE F_CK DO WE NEED TO HAREST PERFECTLY NORMAL AND HEALTHY BABIES YOU F_CKING DIPSH_T OF A WANKER.

Some cheap ass propaganda abit like that American Army game (made by the army) to try and help increase the number of recruits they got.
Except for the fact that AA is a pretty good game, especially for lan parties... only problem with it now is its now 2.7 gig to download.

45
Looks like another lame attempt of a company trying to make a buck off religion to me, hope it fails miserably.

Well my brother waited 48 hours in line to buy 2 PS3 and then sold them on Ebay for 2300. I ask him why did he not buy 1 more for himself this is what he said. I will get 1 in a year or 2 when they are cheaper i'm not going to miss anything the games that are coming out now will still be around when i get my one.

Thats a hell of a lot of patience

47
I think its time this thread was closed up. Everythings been said, its only going to get repetative or obusive from here on.

48
I respect chaoscontrol's opinions about religion, but who is to say that others can't practice it?  What gives anyone the right to stop others?

Yay, one for the good guys. haha... lol.

Just jesting... i dont consider myself above anyone else here. But i'll have to admit its hard not to fall into that trap.

49
Meh. i dont care if you dont change you mind about it but, I can only suggest that you shouldn't want to have you ideals forced on anyone else like chaos control does... because as my previous post pointed out, that would make you no better than hitler as thats what he wanted and set out to achieve.

If religion was to successfully baned the resulting war would be unlike anything that has been seen yet. Its my opinion that such a war is unavoidable due to the fact that more and more people are taking that same opinion as chaos control, foolishly thinking that it would somehow be better at the same time that the other half of the world disagrees and would fight back against it if it was to occur.
(i reckon that once the ratio gets to just past half way it will occur, and i would estimate that its only about 1/4 at the moment ... so give it say 500years, thats my guess for ww3)

And as for richard the lionheart, i was under the impression that he was chatholic or something... of to wiki i go.

Well, the Nazi's were pretty "trucked up" and a lot of people still followed them...

The nazis had special state schools where people were raised on the belief that they were the superior species, they rejected traditional religions and nazism became the new religion.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism
Nazism is not a precise, theoretically grounded ideology. It consists of a loose collection of ideas and positions: extreme nationalism, racism, eugenics, totalitarianism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, anti-communism, and limits to freedom of religion.

Wow, doesn't america sure fit that description today. Also china springs to mind... but it seems to keep to itself rather than invade iraq so i dont mind, and well i just dont know too much about china.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler#Hitler.27s_religious_beliefs
  • Hitler was brought up in his family's religion by his Roman Catholic parents, but as a school boy he began to reject the Church and Catholicism. After he had left home, he never attended Mass or received the Sacraments.
  • Hitler’s private statements, reported by his intimates, are more mixed, showing Hitler as a religious but also anti-Christian man.
  • Hitler did not adhere to esoteric ideas, occultism, or neo-paganism, and ridiculed such beliefs in his book Mein Kampf.
  • Hitler advocated a "Positive Christianity", a belief system purged from what he objected to in traditional Christianity, and reinvented Jesus as a fighter against the Jews.
  • Hitler believed in a Social Darwinist struggle for survival between the different races, among which the "Aryan race" was supposed to be the torchbearers of civilization and the Jews as enemies of all civilization.

Sounds like your kinda man chaos control, why dont you two make a start on burning all the heritics.

Id rather just sit and remain neutral here and let everyone else destroy each other without me, there is no peacefull way to get rid of something.
