So there are many tools, modern (Makou Reactor) and outdated (Palmer) that let one view and also edit the field backgrounds. Some like 7mimic let you adjust the alpha channel. Both Makou Reactor and 7mimic will allow you to view the individual states of the background animations.

However there has yet to be a way to view the animations and alpha lighting actively cycle outside of the game itself.

Is there a possibility of it ever being done?

One year ago, news of a possible Steam release for Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII hit the web via RPGSite’s investigation into Steam registry files. Since then Square Enix has yet to announce anything official. Originally, the two games were ported from the PlayStation for the PC by Eidos, which would later become a part of Square Enix.

Today, Square Enix filed for domain “finalfantasyviipc.com” You can view the domain listing information here.

You've heard the rumors, and now StarTrek.com can officially confirm it: Star Trek: The Next Generation will be released in high-definition Blu-ray, starting in January with a sampler of several popular episodes, followed by a season-one set to be released later on in 2012, and subsequent seasons beaming down after that. Each of the 178 episodes spanning The Next Generation's seven seasons will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release in the Blu-ray format and, eventually, for runs on television and digital platforms in the U.S. and across the world. Star Trek: The Next Generation will, as fans know, be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012.

“Fans have been clamoring for a high-definition release of Star Trek: The Next Generation," Ken Ross, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “Transferring the series to high-definition presented difficult technical challenges, but our team has come up with a process to create true 1080p HD masters with true HD visual effects. We can’t wait to show fans how pristine the series looks and sounds with our upcoming Blu-ray releases.”

CBS is, in fact, returning to the original film negatives, a mother lode of material encompassing 25,000-plus reels of footage, and editing the episodes together precisely as they were when they originally aired between 1987 and 1994. Visual effects will not be upconverted from videotape, but instead will be recompositioned. The freshly cut film will ultimately be transferred to high definition with 7.1 DTS Master Audio. And all of the work is being done in conjunction with respected, longtime Star Trek figures Denise and Michael Okuda, who are on board as consultants.

As for that sampler, it will be called Star Trek: The Next Generation -- The Next Level. CBS Home Entertainment has set a January 31, 2012, release date for the single disc, which will include the feature-length version of the series pilot, "Encounter at Farpoint," as well the fan-favorite episodes "Sins of the Father" and "The Inner Light," the former from season three and the latter from season five. The Next Level will sell for the suggested retail price of $21.99.

I'm happy we finally have official confirmation and some video! :D

So I've managed to acquire the 4th Disc of the FFVII International version. There are some nice models I bet we could use, like the buggy, the Shin-Ra Sub, or the Tiny Bronco, the Highwind (though we have someone working on a model already), even a nicer snowboard... except I can't seem to figure what program could extract the models.

I'm not entirely sure if this is it against the rules still? I mean it IS from FFVII....

So I'm working on this n' that, and in reviewing the models (working on Sweepers atm), I began to wonder if I could improve the look of some of the spells, mostly Matra Magic. I assume the missile model is in the game somewhere, but I've yet to come across it.

Is it in the battle.lgp, if not where would it be...magic.lgp?

7
So I learned something tonight. Despite the fact that most of the Sweepers are just different colors... changing the file names from "av__" (sweeper) to say "cv__" (custom sweeper) or "je__" (death machine) won't work as one would expect. I found that while the models look fine... the enemies don't act right. I encountered "Custom Sweeper", and it just stood around not attacking for a while, and when it did attack, and "Smoke Shot" appeared on screen..... well, "Smoke Shot" was not the attack it used (appeared to use "Machine Gun"), and "Matra Magic" failed to do anything.

Not entirely sure of the reason behind that.... :?

(I assume 'Tech support' is the best place to post this topic....)

General Discussion / The Art of Video Games
« on: 2011-02-19 19:53:24 »
The Art of Video Games exhibition will explore the 40-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects, the creative use of new technologies, and the most influential artists and designers. We want you to help us select the eighty video games that will be represented in the exhibition. Remember, this is an art exhibition, so be sure to vote for games that you think are visually spectacular or boast innovative design!

It's easy to register and vote. You'll be automatically assigned a password when you register with your email (make sure to note it down), and then you can go through the various era's they've set up.

Final Fantasy VII is under "Sony Playstation" in Era 4 (listed in "ADVENTURE GENRE (2 of 4)"), and has my vote. :D

I have to ask, how on earth does one have all the parts of a model come together properly in Kimera? That last step never works for me. I know how to divide a full model into the various needed parts (still refining my knowledge on it), and I know how to go about using multiple textures, adding groups and so forth in Beta PCreator v0.85b. Every single time I finish the parts and begin work with Kimera, a few parts work out (head, torso... the 'easy' ones), and I think "hey this time I've got it right!", the arms don't connect to the torso like they should, the parts of the feet need a ton of repositioning.... and so on.

I've tried to do it right, but there's hardly any guide to doing it, and the bits n' pieces I've found well... obviously aren't working for me. I found that placing the part I'm working on, in the center of the grid (using the center grid in 3DS Max) kinda works, a method I found by following how the pieces look in Kimera when I open the p editor.... but no matter what... there doesn't seem to be a "sure fire way".

I've been trying this for 4+ months. In those months of trial and error, I have improved greatly. I can obviously do most of it right.... I'm just constantly hitting a wall at the very end and that is quite frustrating.

Completely Unrelated / ReBoot - Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD
« on: 2010-12-22 07:43:42 »
If you happen to be a fan of Beast Wars - Transformers, then you probably know of Mainframe Ent.'s other CGI show, ReBoot (or you may be a big fan of the series without being a fan of Beast Wars). The first two seasons, never received a proper DVD release. The third and fourth seasons have long been out of print (often sold at high prices on eBay). That is about to change early next year!

Rainmaker (the company that bought up Mainframe Ent. a few years back) has partnered with Shout! Factory to release all of ReBoot (all 47 episodes from all four seasons!).

Currently, seasons 1 and 2 have a set release date of March 1st 2011. Seasons 3 and 4 are TBA.

There is also a complete boxset collectors set coming out at some point (TBA).

As for any extras, I personally happen to be in contact with those who worked on the show (co-creators, voice actors, etc), and I can say there has been some recording of commentary!

If you don't want to wait for the boxset, you can pre-order Seasons 1&2 from Amazon right away at a discount!

I'm sure there's at least a few people on here that know of this show, and are possibly fans.

Season 2 Cast:

I personally love the show, and wish to get more episodes.

Anyone wish to discuss it?

General Discussion / Midi file names corresponding to mp3s
« on: 2005-10-15 11:22:14 »
Wasn't too sure were this should go, but this seems to be alright (besides it can be moved).

I've had two mp3s (3-02 Lifestream and 4-09 Sending A Dream into the Universe) sitting around since I installed FF7Music.

I can't seem to find the corresponding midi's to rename the mp3's to.

I did do a quick search, but I didn't find any topic that listed which should be what.

General Discussion / Any way to "record" ingame playing?

Is there any way, or a program that would allow me to "record" what I'd see as I'm playing the game?

Troubleshooting / ff7music, can you use shortcuts?
« on: 2005-02-19 13:20:23 »
Hello again everyone, luckly I don't have a problem to report, just a question to ask.

Is it possible to use shortcuts to the mp3 files, instead of placing the actual files in the folder that is designated for the mp3s?

Just wondering, because then I could place the files in my second HD, and it would free up some space on my first. :)

Archive / Back! With yet another other problem! *Huzah!*
« on: 2005-02-01 01:46:35 »
Alright, I got FFVII PC to work again! The v.1.02 patch didn't fix it, but I had to play around with the settings here and there and the game now works!

Now, I have another problem. I can't seem to get Cetra to work, which inturn means I can't get ff7music to be patched.

I've played around with Cetra a lot so I'm not 100% sure what I've done..or if I'm actually the cause of the problem.

At first I got the error "Invaild filename" when I started Cetra, but that didn't seem to stop it from opening. Then it told me when I try to patch the music, i get "cannot open file C:\Documents and Settings\David\Desktop\Downloads\Copy of Final Fantasy VIIFF7.EXE.". I've made a copy of the folder because I want to "test" everything on that copied folder, so that I don't screw up the original.

Thennnn after I got it to stop telling me that it gave me this error "I/O error 123". And now I get that when I try to open Cetra.

Help...please, I keep running into problems left and right, though I am greatful I got the game running, but I'd still like to get the patches working.

Ok, the game starts up just fine, but when I start a new game or load a game, it crashes. This is what I get when I click more info on the error:
Quote
AppName: ff7.exe    AppVer: 0.0.0.0    ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0    Offset: 00000000

If I have to remove SP2 I will. (I've tried to remove it through the add/remove progams, but I get an "access denied" message.)
