Archive / How can i modify the Field background?
« on: 2004-05-01 18:46:41 »
Yes, there is.  go to ficedula's download page, and he has a proggie which can export backgrounds.  I believe it's called "Gast"

A note of caution: the BG images have to be the SAME SIZE both dimension wise and filesize wise for the game to recognize it.  So its not liek you can make the backgrounds bigger and ultra detailed.

Note also that you can't change where a person can or cant go just by editing the image.  Like, if you draw a house in the middle of a road, Cloud will walk right on top of it..

This is a community dedicated to the modding of the PC version only.  PSX disks are hard to crack, and have file structures we probabl wouldnt beable to decode.

So sorry, yer outta luck, man. (unless someone comes by and proves me wrong)

Darkdevil: Get the upside down patch.  Oddly enough, it SHOULD let you play the movies in winamp.  It's not really a patch for the game, it's just updated codecs.

Archive / FAQ addition idea...
« on: 2004-04-27 19:47:08 »
Not a bad idea, except that theres litteraly millions of different configurations possible, what, with different hardware, memeory types, operating systems, and drivers... ugh =/

Still, no one said it couldn't be a work in progress.

I think we should all post our computer stats, and list any and all problems we have with FF7, and work up from there....

CURRENT SYSTEM:
AMD XP 2000+ oc'd to 2 Ghz
64 mb GeForce2 mx/mx 400, Driver version 53.03 (Allows for AA, unlike later versions in my experience).
Soundblaster LIVE! 5.1, driver v. 3509.1.0.0
DirectX 9.0b
Win XP pro
786 mb ram
Logitec Dual Action joypad

FF7:
Full install, w/ movies playing off the HD
V 1.02 (chocobo and geforce compatability patch)
A.S.'s Hand Patch v. 1
Dreakons High-res Cloud patch
Bugs: Super fast cycle chases (duh =P), Occassional battle crash.  Some FMVs go too fast, such as when Barret and Dyne lose their hands.
Notes: FF7 looks better than ever before and runs great, but i'm considering getting a shit system to play ff7 on if these battle crashes keep occuring.

Also, if i remember my old systems correctly...

OLD SYSTEM 1:
Intel pentium 250 mhz
Win 95
somwhere between 32 and 128 megs of ram
Voodoo3 2000
Soundblaster Live 5.1 (old drivers)
DirectX 5-7 at various points.
Gamepad PRO controller

FF7:
Full install only
Bugs: Occasional movie crash: solved by playing the offending movie in Windows a few times first.  Some movieswould also run painfully slow and out of synch.
Notes: Pretty much the kind of system ff7 PC was meant to be run on, excpet for that annoying movies crash (offedning FMVs: Biglight, Jariofal [tiny bronco getting shot down], Movie where you first enter Junon).

***

OLD SYSTEM 2
Win 98 se
AMD Duron 900 Mhz
Voodoo 3 2000/later swapped then got rid of a Matrox 4000 (?)
Soundblaster Live 5.1 (yeah, i did a looooot of upgrading, lol)
Directx 5-8 at various points
Gamepad PRO controller

FF7:
Full install
Bugs: Speedy bike bug.  Some fmvs slow down.
Notes: Both video cards worked eqully well for ff7, but the matrox got the boot cuz it wouldn't run anything else as well as the voodoo =P

« on: 2004-04-25 05:31:01 »
yeah, i used to have a voodoo 3 2000, the game ran ok on that card.. sometimes a movie would hang, but playing the fmv in wondows a few times first would clear up any issues (the movie had to be in memory to work, basically).

I'm starting to wonder if the people at Eidos put any effort into the port whatsoever.

You mean you can't even back out?  FYI: you can't dive while at a dock, you have to be well into the water.  but if you can't even back out, then that's a problem.  Dunno wtf's going on there =/

I think we need a new question in the FAQ: "FF7 crashes durring -cutsene-"

We've seen quite a few of these lately, all of which are related to FF7 being a whore when it comes to proporly reading FMVs off the CD drive.

Though having a definate answer might be a good idea, as i'm not 100% sure if plopping the movies on one's HD and having a full install complelty resolves this. *shrugs*

Messiah 99: theres actually TWO guys after Afro Thunder =P  One is a dude in a red mask and cape, and the next is the invisible, invincible cheatmonkey.

I once used Gamehack to give myself infinite hit points in that game, and I wound up taking 20 hits before AF went down.  But now i'm on winxp and Gamehack won't work =/

As it is, i'd need the playstation version to use the emulator, and all i gots is the pc version =\

update: I dont need a slowdown util, I'm just a lousy shot ;)

But i DID hi it recently, but i dont know what exactly i hit.  ie, the propeller or the engine, or what.  I don't suppsoe anyone's cracked the .bin file to determine what exactly gives you the points, and what determins how many points you get?

Archive / Game being picky about modded files -_-
« on: 2004-04-21 15:40:51 »
Yeah, i noticed that, and was mildly annoyed that i had to add the ".p" to all of the files to make p2 raw recognize them -_-

so now i ned a raw 2 p converter.. greeaaat.  Google, here I come!

PS: How WOULD i go about texturing these?  All the models in ff7 i think are vertex shaded, but Milkshape doesnt seem to have a vertex shading option...

« on: 2004-04-21 04:55:30 »
Well, i got my hands on Alexx's p 2 raw converter, and i started playing around in milksape.. unfortunatly, my little modifications of the characters didn't go over too well.  The game refused to render them!  (ie, Tifa is now a pair of legs and a skirt with a floating pair of arms and a head)

There's 2 possible reasons for this: 1) i didn't convert back to the original file format correctly, (the p 2 raw only works one way, so i simply decided to rename it), or b, it doesn't like the largeer file size.

I'm not a great modler by any means, but i'm pretty sure i can get the characters to a decent high-res quality if i can get this to work.  Though Milkshape also doesn't seem to wanna support vertex shading, either, so it's not like I could color my modifications... =/

Any tips?

Ergo, FFAC=Anime

Xeriouxi: Here ya go: Of all the characters, the hands look kinda bad on Cloud. (Notice how his arms get huge at the end, then suddenly BOOM skinny wrist? looks funny.. but that can't be helped @ the moment) But it looks better with people with skinny arms, those who have coats, or at least gloves.  Maybe it's just me =/

Close, Contra, but that's not quite my interpretation...

Spoiler: show
Holy was SUPPOSED to destroy meteor, and possibly take all the humans with it.  However, for reasons unknown, it just sits there, doing nothing, and the two spells seem to merge into one giant can of whupass.

The lifestream usually arrives at a wound to heal it after it has occured, and before this point, we've never had any indication that it could or would act proactivly and beable to destroy meteor itself.

Aeris' appearence at the very end gives some credence to her possible involvement in gathering the lifestream to stop the Holy/Meteor alagamation.

As for the fate of the humans and Red XIII.. i guess we'll ahve to wait for Advent Children =)  Though if the material that's been released already is any indication, it looks like the humans survived (though they seem to have a new problem...)

someone wrote that on a dutch tweaker forum, without giving the total translation: the dude says that that for the characters there aren't any textures being used, but shaded poly's.

is this true?

For the most part, yes.  The only part that are textures are eyes, mouthes, and tatoos.  Everything else is vector-shaded.

Though if they'd port Kingdom Hearts to PC, i'd rather use those models.. though they'd probably present many of the same problems =/

Dreakon: I think you'd need a converter, actually, but i think someone around her released on a few weeks ago..?

And if it doesn't, ask the guy who made it to incorperate .p recognition: He loves feedback and suggestions.  His e-mail should be on that site somewhere, hehe
