ARGH FF7 Crashes, searched forum first :(
« on: 2004-01-19 11:01:35 »
I'm running FF7 on Win XP, used all kinds of patches and the PSF stuff...

Pentium 4 2.23mhz, GeForce 4400 TI, 512mb of ram.

FF7 actually starts up and runs, however, when i press a button,
I'm back at my desktop again... Don't know what to do, I've tried Win98 and Win95 compatibility...

Plz help    cuz i want that FF7 experience again, haven't played it for about 5 years...

Does it work without the "patches and PSF stuff?"
Are you just getting a black screen for a couple seconds and then thrown back to the desktop, or does the game actually start running before it crashes?

Sounds like a video card or directX problem.

If your other games are working fine though, I dunno what else it could be =.

i get that sometimes

i also get semi bad luck with ff7 and ill crash in some battle every now and then but its not that bad

that compatibility in xp does nothing, theres a patch fix for it at microsoft you can try that..

i found using win nt 5.0 compatibility works best if you'll even use it.

also most importantly, dont switch programs while in ff7, i get errors quicker doing that

Turned out to be indeed, a DirectX prob, with the 8bit texture stuff.
RivaTuner and turning off the 8-bit stuff helped.
Couldn't imagine it was that though, thought that it ran well cuz the Eidos logo did show. Guess that didn't mean anything..
Thanks anyway, and sorry for being yet another irritating noob, opening a topic that has been covered for like 1000 times
Sorry, my bad, and thanks for this GRRRREAT forum, gotta love FF7
