FF7 Lagging only in battle 9 FPS
« on: 2014-07-28 19:47:03 »
Hey everyone, I have the original ff7 game for pc. I'm using tifas bootleg package, I used the full preset in bootleg and changed the gameplay thing to lost wings overhaul I believe its called. The game runs fine, always running at 30 fps but when I'm in battles instead of running at 15 fps the battles run between 8 and 9 fps everytime.
I have a sager np7358 so running games isn't a problem here some of the specs
4th Generation Intel® Haswell Core™ i7-4710MQ (2.5GHz - 3.5GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)
 NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 860M GDDR5 (2.0GB) w/ Optimus Technology
also a intel HD 4400 for task don't require highdemand for example gaming.
 8GB DDR3 1600MH
I'm on windows 7 ultimate.

Ah, Optimus, enemy of gamers and ruiner of things. I'd be willing to bet that it's not treating FF7 as a game in need of your NVIDIA chip, and the game is being played with the HD 4400 instead. I've heard of a few games having this problem, unfortunately I don't know how to fix it.

Ditto on Optimus. Does the APP.LOG show your Nvidia card or Intel HD?

You can force to use the Nvidia card in its control panel.

In my control panel its forced to use my nvidia card, I also think its a compatability issue. I'm hoping there's a fix for this, I really want to play I mean I would play with 9 fps but I won't really enjoy as much as I should I would be more annoyed.

@EQ2Alyza I believe so, here is the log.

May help to disable the internal resolution.
This reduces the computational effort somewhat.

A logical explanation however this is not...

^^
Just tried and still nothing, I really want to fix this issue. 9 fps isn't very enjoyable at all, what other version of the ff7 port can be modded with bootlegger and tifa's package? Maybe its a compatibility issue with this port and my pc?
Its a certain mod I believe, I ran the game earlier without mods and there was no battle lag. Now if only I could single out the mod.

This is highly annoying, but you can try some.

1) It could be that your Battle models are too complex (rather unlikely).
Rename the existing battle.lgp inside the folder "[game folder]\data\battle" and copy the battle.lgp from the installation CD.
Run the game and see if things improve.
Now, if the 15 FPS be achieved, it was because of the battle.lgp.
If not, rename everything back.

2) Maybe something does not work with the shader unit.
You can try to play without shader.
For this you open the file 'ff7_opengl.cfg' with Notepad, search the line that starts with "use_shaders =" and sets an 'off' behind.

3) There have been issues with newer graphics card drivers in the past.
Unfortunately, I can not tell for NVIDIA which driver version is guaranteed work, you would have test various older versions.

There is also a test program with which you can test the OpenGL capability of the driver and the graphics card.

Option 2 seemed to help for a bit, but then it dropped back down to 9 fps.
I tried option 1, it stayed at 15 fps for a few seconds then dropped down to 9 fps like it always done.

Seems its a compatbility issue with my drivers and graphic cards, it also does this same thing on the steam version using the same mods and ultima edition.
(Had steam version but didn't think you could mod it and my uncle has the ultima edition.)
So maybe its a certain mod? I ran the game with no mods to test this 2 days ago and I had no lag in battle I believe.

*Sigh* We do not support the Ultima Edition. It is a pirate copy that was never sold by Squaresoft, and has changes made to it that can screw with mods and generally cause trouble. If you wish to receive further support, please provide proof of ownership, either by posting a photo containing both genuine discs and your username on a sheet of paper, or a link to your Steam profile with the Steam version. If you don't feel comfortable posting either of these publicly, you can PM it to me. Upon receiving proof of ownership, you will be eligible for further support on these forums ~Covarr
