Just a quick note... I checked Win 8 out (Comp came with try out version) and I didn't like it.  At all. The GUI is the reason, as I am sure most of you know.  What I didn't know at the time was that

This little program sorts it all out.  Don't even bother waiting for MS to do it, they'll only fuck it up more.

I've downloaded Classic Shell for Windows 7 too, and gone back to XP's menu system   Works a treat.


PS, didn't like the added bloat that Win 8 also has.

I agree about the bloat, but the new start menu is leaps and bounds ahead of previous Windows OSs. All you have to do is delete all the useless crap that is on it by default, and just add/organize your own programs and folders on it.

Bloat? The underlying OS takes up more HDD space, but as far as memory usage is concerned—and that's what matters when it comes to OS speed—it's slimmer than Windows 7 was, even with the new WinRT API constantly running.

As for Classic Shell... meh, I had issues with it. Minor issues, involving performance and sometimes staying open when I clicked out of it, but enough that it was really annoying to me. I get the same trick done with Start8. It's not free ($4.99 USD), but it feels just like native in a way Classic Shell didn't quite manage.

Win 8 is much faster than win 7 on the same hardware, no competition. I can only assume that you weren't using a vanilla copy of windows. Manufacturers bog down their devices with bloatware, I really don't understand why. Running cubase 7.5 with heavy VST's and android studio on win 8 is sooo much faster on my laptop
