Thanks Tekkie, I'll start messing with it right now. :)

Is there a way to adjust the bloom or post-processing in the config file? When enabled it's just too strong (atleast on my system). Details really pop with it (which looks great), but other spots just do it too much. The Eidos logo for example comes off really, really bright.

Thanks Goku, I'll try that. :)

BTW, I'm getting the Wind error now trying to go down into the crater for the first time. Anyone know how to get past this point without disabling the driver all together? If I disable it, I won't be able to close the game and reload it as there isn't a save point down in the crater (besides the one that you place yourself, I don't want to drop that yet, just want to train).

This has happened a couple times now, this time I've paused the game shortly before moving to the next battle after the slots. I don't recall on whether I paused the game in the battle arena on previous crashes.

EDIT: How do I load my game from an emergency save, btw?

Quick general question about this mod. Was OpenGL support always embedded in the code of the game? Or was this something completely added in with your modifications? I read the original post, but still seems slightly ambiguous on whether this was naturally supported.

6
Yep you need the movie codec as Windows 7 doesn't normally include it the same way as Windows XP does. Make certain to run the game as an administrator, and check the box to always do so, otherwise when you save, the saved games won't actually be written and you'll start from the beginning again. Make certain as well to install the Official 1.02 Patch for hardware acceleration support and some bug fixes. From there, you can do all the tweaking you desire to get the game to your liking.

I apologize about that, I was going through the thread and hadn't come across the solution yet. So I just need to rename the same save file to insert in other slots? I.E. save00.ff7, save01.ff7, save02.ff7, etc?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I'm having trouble selecting the custom resolution that I want. I open the FF7_opengl.cfg with notepad and select my custom x & y resolutions, save and exit. I then run the game and it only runs at 640x480.

I'm trying to have the image go to 1920x1200, my max monitor resolution. I can understand if this particular resolution isn't possible. However, I can't seem to get any custom resolutions to work. Any help?

EDIT: I'm an idiot, I forgot to apply the 1.02 patch first. Anyways, I'm running into another issue now. The game crashes right after the Eidos & Squaresoft Logo's play. Right at startup. I'm not sure what the reason is, anyone experience that and able to fix it?

Archive / Re: STICKY: FF7 Music
« on: 2008-05-02 07:43:30 »
Okay guys, I'm having a little trouble with the looping of the music. I have it set to loop in the FF7music.exe but the MP3 stops once it's done with initial playback. Any advice?

11
If he could do that, that would be very nice. However, that would be changing the Aspect Ratio to 16:10 instead of a normal 4:3 / 5:4 resolution and that might not be as easy as it sounds. Here's to hoping for that though. Are you playing this game on a laptop?

12
Here are some suggestions.

First, go back to your FF7.exe and set compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME and enable "Advanced text services for this application". If you wan't to use FSAA just use the High-Resolution patch and save yourself A LOT of headaches. Just know, that your monitor and video card must be able to support a resolution of 1280x960 for the Patch to work correctly. Otherwise the game will crash back to the desktop.

If you're satisfied without FSAA then just set the nVidia drivers to off or "Application Controlled" and that should take care of your grid-line issue. Goodluck, hope that helps you. :)

What videocard and drivers are you using? Also, an easy way to get FSAA to work is just to use the High-Resolution patch. However, you'll need a monitor that can support 1280x960 resolution for the game to play. And also, there is a CRC32 (or something like that) Checker in the Hi-res patcher, so if you're using the ultima version, the patch will not work.

Archive / Any good Final Fantasy VII Soundfonts out there?
« on: 2005-11-24 05:24:52 »
Hi all, as the title asks, are there any FF7 soundfont's out there that make the PC game sound almost as good as it's PS1 counter part? I don't have Final Fantasy VII for Playstation any longer, so getting the audio files straight from the source and then implementing them is pretty much a no go (not willing to try to find a used copy just for the music). So if anyone has some good suggestions in that criteria or perhaps another alternative, I'm all ears (pun intended ;) ).

Archive / Computer shutting down when loading game!
« on: 2005-11-24 05:20:18 »
It might be a little late as this topic is about 20+ days old, but I was having similar issues lately. Although, not with this particular game, but my computer just randomly rebooting (not due to overheating). Quick fix for me, was to Reset my CMOS. And did a system restore to a point before any supposed offending software was installed. Haven't had an issue since. Give it a try. Good luck :).

I had problems at first getting it to run on XP Pro, but I pretty much resolved all the issues with the following steps:

1. First in your Video drivers make sure Anti-Aliasing is either disabled or is application controlled.
2. Install game > Apply Riva Hardware Patch 1.02 > Chocobo Patch > Upside-Down movie patch
3. Pull the movies off the CD to the harddrive in whichever folder you like but I usually put the movies in the FF7 Folder in a sub-folder called Movies.
Do a registry edit for the movies by following this right-up Courtesy of qhimm.com member Emperor Steele: www.ff7-universe.com and then click the download link on the left side of the page. Scroll all the way to the bottom to the link labeled "Play FMV's from your Harddrive". Playing the movies from the harddrive made them play A LOT Smoother for me.

4. Now that you have Final Fantasy 7 installed, find the FF7.exe in the directory where you installed FF7, right-click > Properties > and in the Properties dialogue box there should be a setting labeled "Compatibility Mode". Select either Windows 98 or 95.

Now run Final Fantasy 7 from the FF7.exe and you should first get a configuration prompt. Check the box for using Hardware acceleration and then select the radio button corresponding to Riva graphics cards (not TNT). This will enable hardware accelaration, and you should be good to go from there.

Hope that resolves your issue. Good luck :)

I know you said previously that adding support for resolutions besides those of a 4:3 aspect ratio is very difficult, but is there a chance that support could be added for 5:4 aspect ratios or dare I say widescreen 16:10, 15:9, 16:9 aspect ratios? in the range of 1680x1050? That would be awesome, but from what I understand not an easy thing to accomplish.

This game plays great with the Hi-Res patch on my machine:
AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3700+ / 6800GT Windows XP Pro.

The Hi Res patch will allow FSAA and Windows XP seems to play pretty nice with this old game as long as you play with the compatibility modes under the properties for the FF7.exe

im unsure whether anyone has mentioned this problem already but the at fort condor the minigames interface is screwed... it comes out at 640*480 even thow the game is set to 1280*960.

Ill send you a screen shot of the problem.

by the way the patch im using is dated 9/8/2005 in case a newer one is available.

Yeah, I noticed that as well, just bring the cursor left and up from the position you want the character to be placed... If all else fails, just let the enemy reach the shed. You can just battle them with your characters and save some gil... Hopefully it will be resolved in the future.

General Discussion / Sephiroth vs Kefka
« on: 2005-08-08 21:31:39 »
Hmm...you guys have all brought up valid points to the arguement, but you forgot Kefka's one attack that will bring the target down to 1HP no matter what that targets max hit points are. That attack is known as "Fallen One". Then if Kefka can just muster to stay alive for 1 or maybe 2 attacks he should than be able to take Sephiroth down. I havn't played the final battle of FFVII in a while, but I don't remember sephiroth having a similar attack.

Also, You can't just say that Sephiroth could just summon meteor and it's all over, as you can see for yourself how long it takes for that damned meteor to actually fall outta the sky.

I agree with RGPillespie as well. Every time I play through Final Fantasy VII, I never really get the sense that Sephiroth is just pure evil. You don't really ever see him taking pleasure in the killings that he commits, and the killings that he does commit seem more for an actual cause. Where as Kefka was just evil to the core. Destroyed whole towns just because he felt like it.

Personally though, I think a more evened match for say Sephiroth or Kefka might be Zeromus in his "True" form. That Big Bang attack really did pack a punch, and it also took 5 party members to bring him down in relation to 4 or 3 party members... Just my opinion.

At the moment, no editor actually extracts the field file backgrounds properly enough for import / export purposes. I'll have to do it with the engine manually.

Anyway, here's another release for users that want full screen 1280x1024 support, and I've included jedwin's chocobo patch so you guys don't have to patch the exe a 2nd time.

Wow, you're able to get 1280x1024? I thought that wasn't possible for you to do, as 1024 isn't a direct multiple of 320? I'm applying it now to see the difference :)

As far as I know smithie, The US version was more difficult atleast in the side quest area as the Japanese version did not include either the Emerald Weapon nor the Ruby Weapon. There is the possibility however that levels and materia were harder to mature in the PAL version compared to the US version, that I don't know for certain though...

This is strange, every time I quit out of FF7 and then try to run it again, it doesnt boot, I have to restart my computer just to start the game up again.. any suggestions?

Check the Task Manager's process list for FF7.exe and kill it.

Yep, the same thing happens to me. Can be very annoying after a while as well...

Another update.
The timer for the safe and the gaea cliffs are fixed now.
Also, the textures for damage values in battles are also fixed.
Some of the textures in battles are fixed now, not all.

Downloading now. Thank you for your quick update man. I didn't expect it to be done this fast, I very much appreciate it :)

Update: Thank you very much Saint, It works flawlessly :) Great Job!

Update #2: The slots in the battle square showing your Handicap still do not appear. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Also, damage numbers are very big this time around in comparison to what they were in the last version. It just caught me off guard as they battle damage values appeared very small before now they really pop out :).

ok, i did all of your steps and it seems to crash randomly sometimes just when im running along... also, last time i played this game it crashed for omnislash, so does anyone have a save file w/ omnislash so i can try it out and make sure it doesnt happen again :)

Yeah, unfortunately my steps aren't fool proof. I guess I shouldn't say I'm 100% crash free, I'm more around 98% crash free. I don't have Omnislash yet, but Cids Hyper Jump limit break would make my game crash as well... I just kept messing with the compatibility settings for the ff7.exe and it would usually solve the problem.

I hope you've atleast resolved some issues with the mini-guide I wrote up though :)
