« on: 2006-10-13 18:31:28 »
Modification of controls with this patch is difficult. Ficedula mentions this in the readme I believe or perhaps in an ancient post in this forum.

The best thing to do is set up the game to your specification using the FF8 configurator 2.2.
Then load up the original FF8config executable and change the controller options in that.

Sometimes new drivers omit old features because the developers think they are no longer required. ATI stopped supporting 8 bit palletted textures sometime after FF7's release, which therefore broke compatibility with the original 1.00 version of FF7. New drivers may also contain bugs which stop old games from working, and as the games aren't played regularly the bugs don't get caught and fixed.

Very little chance of cracking/emulationing it, because Direct X is incorporated at the system level.

I think the amount of RAM will make a big difference

Yeah I have heard anything less than 1GB could become an issue. Some people report Vista using ~512mb without loading any applications. My new laptop will only have 512mb so I'll be sticking with XP for now.

Hey, I just wanted to find out what if anyone is using the windows vista rc1 and what they think of it?

I started using it, but the current ati catalyst drivers don't allow display panning so I can't use my TV as I have to lower the desktop resolution to 1024*860 which annoys the cr*p outta me.

Also has anyone tried using vista under a laptop? What's the performance like?

Troubleshooting / Re: Ff7.exe crashing
« on: 2006-09-18 20:16:36 »
Have you tried going past this point only using the official 1.02 patch. One of the other patches might be causing the problem. If so fully unistall the game, install the 1.02 patch and try to play past the crash point.

The movies look pixelated in the game, but fine in windows. Some people have had more success by rencoding the movies so maybe you should try searching the forum for more information.

The subject of Jari should probably be left alone. From Jari's message its clear that he wants to move on and we should all respect that.

delete the animevamp patch and unistall FF7 completely. Then reinstall FF7 and install the 1.02 patch found at http://aaron-kelley.net/hosting/ffsf/patch.html. Then under the graphics select direct 3d renderer (you may need to force it). If that doesn't work try using the software renderer.

I believe you can complete the sub game very quickly simply by continually firing rockets at the enemy as soon as the game starts.

To find the version, load up FF7config and on the title it should give the version number, e.g. 1.00 or 1.02

Are you running the game under the software renderer or direct 3d?

Try starting from scratch. Then install the 1.02 patch. Then install the high-resolution patch. There are two parts to this patch so install the main part first then the 1280*1024 patch second. Hopefully it should work.

I went to his zoo and witnessed all the great things he did for the animals over there. At the end of the day though you have to feel sorry for his family. It makes you think that if you have a family for their sake you just can't afford to take crazy risks.

If you are playing ps1 games on the ps2 you can access the PS1 driver config and increase the disc speed therefore reducing loading times.

Software rendering basically means that the software renders the graphics using your CPU rather than using the Direct3d hardware renderer on your graphics card. It is often slower and the quality is not as good as hardware rendering. However it can help with compatibility issues which arise over using specialized hardware graphics systems. To select software rendering open up ff8config and on the graphics tab select software rendering.

There may have been an edition which has an extra cd with the manual on it. I own the original PC edition and the box doesn't look like the one the guy is selling so I'm not overly confident how genuine it may be.
