I need a solution for opening windows programs and .exe files on a mac OSX. I am not very familiar with this kind of thing, so when a google searched turned up a ton of results I didn't know which would be best. I figure someone here would know so if you do please help. Which would be the best (preferably free) program to use.

Windows is the best program for doing this.

If using Windows is some kind of problem, then yes, WINE can run some Windows programs. However, don't expect it to run everything, and don't expect it to run anything perfectly.

Also, bear in mind that WINE is a Linux program and support for OSX is unofficial; according to the installation page on the wiki, you may have to do some fiddling.
