As much as I hate to say it, DPLB is right, Africa has warlords, corrupt governments, etc taking aid money and donated food for themselves, it's a wasted effort for the most part.
Africa may never be "fixed" in several lifetimes worth of effort, ALS could potentially be cured/prevented or at the very least suppressed in less than one lifetime if the 10 or so million that actually goes into research is used well.
Also, wasting water? The planet's surface is something like 60 to 70% water and a large portion of that is many miles deeps, gonna be a very, very long time before that gets "wasted". The problem is Africa's eco system, kinda hard to do something about that, there are already teams working on piping clean, fresh water to remote villages anyway.
