Dissidia 012 - anyone got it yet?
« on: 2011-03-23 21:02:13 »
Reviews seem to be positive, so anyone who has it...thoughts on the game?

I have got it seems to be pretty much like the first one except theres now assist characters and a world map and more characters more like an expansion than a brand new gamnes its not a bad thing though!

Yeah I just got it, something about this one I noticed - the more I play the story, the more absorbed I get in the game. I found the story portion of the first to be much more lackluster and empty, where as this one has actually got me interested. I love the new character selection (Tifa :D) and the fights are more fast-paced than the original too.

It's almost like Square listened to my complaints about the first one   :-D

Lightning and Tifa are nice additions to the roster, and both their fighting styles are fluid and different from other characters, especially how Lightning has her paradigm shifts too, and the game just feels more well rounded.

I always feel you don't have to redo a game's mechanics just for a sequel, just improving them is fine - and it seems that's exactly what they did. My only gripe is I can't seem to find where it stores your records, so I've no idea how to view characters or cutscenes and listen to the BGM without battle.

Also, HOLY SH*T

I have the demo and I'm picking up my copy later today. The demo got me pumped. On the one hand it's good that it doesn't look like either EX Mode or Assists will be as easily abuseable as EX Mode is in the first one. Looks like EX -> BRV builds will be a thing of the past; at least not as overwhelmingly powerful.

Yup.

I haven't tested it YET, but I will have a PSP for my birthday (this coming Friday) with Dissidia Duodecim. A friend of mine (JasMouse, exactly) told me that 012 is quite fun and is more a completion rather than a following of the previous one. For now I am on Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days which is pretty fun, but I'm getting away now...

To summarize, it IS a good game, I didn't seen any negative critics.

Just tried it. It's fun :) I still believe action fighting games are an aberration for handheld systems (especially since it looks like you can't play online with Duodecim), but even for someone like me who doesn't dig fighting games much, it is quite pleasant (especially in RPG Mode). The story seems pretty bad, though.

The story seems pretty bad, though.

It's a fighting game. Play the story once then turn off cutscenes permanently. That's what I did with the first one and it's likely what I'll do with this one.

You know we have a Dissidia thread already? :P

Yeah, I've got it. Got my Aeris assist too ;D

There's more to the story you know, the story mode misses bits out. The rest are in the reports, when you read them, press square and highlight the blue text, it gives you another story.

One of which you get to play as Kuja :P

I don't think the story is that bad, at least for a fighting game.

The first part of the story with the new chars is depressing after you beat it.   :'(

You know we have a Dissidia thread already? :P

Yeah i did, but I didn't want to bump it, sorry  :-\

EDIT:

Sh*t, just realized this is a prequel, so that means...

Tifa's theme was done pretty well.

I honestly wonder what happened to the new characters after they faded away

Been going through the reports and playing the highlighted parts. Got through the FF7 ones. I put things together, now I am sad  :'(

Labyrinth mode is fun, and I love how you can create your own quests. I wish you could make your own board instead of just dialogue, but It's not a bad amount of editing power for a PSP game.

It's fun to make your own stories, or just to show your friends known characters saying stupid stuff and acting like it's in the game  ::)

I'm gonna put some fights up on Youtube. Anyone want to see any characters fighting? :P

I've already done some Japanese ones, Tifa vs Lightning and Edea vs Ultimecia, but I'm gonna do them again in English.

Tbh I think that Squall should have had different dialogue for fighting Edea. :|

This really is a good game. I played it up to Yuna (to not spoil much :P ) and still like it a lot.

1. Purchase game
2. download 100% save off gamefaqs
3; .....?
4. PROFIT :D

Mostly did that to enjoy the story part. Now I'll go back through and earn my items. I dont play against other people so it doesnt matter.

One odd thing I notice is that the way the screen tunnels when a battle is starting, looks like the tunnels in FF7 when Cloud is being.... flown to sephiroth for the final battle.

I've yet to try this game out!! I've read (on here and on YT) about this game and it seems worth the while in playing.

Also, there's a Prologus Dissidia Duodecim and Dissidia 012. What is the Prologus? Is it a short game that shows the events prior to Dissidia 012? It only costs like $2.99 so I was wondering if it was an add-on at first.

I thought prologus was a demo? You have to pay for it?

You have to pay. Your pretty much paying for the Aeris assist.

So, it's a demo or a really short game?

It's a short game. As the title suggests, it's the prologue to the main game. The story only lasts about an hour at the most.

Ah I see. Are the battle mechanics different in the Dissidia 012 than in the first one? Also, how are the battle mechanics in the Prologus?

Sorry for all of these questions.

Chase Sequences are faster

Assist gauge - call a friend in to help you. They use set attacks, and their stats match yours. You can use Aeris as your assist as long as you buy Prologus.

Ex revenge - sacrifice your ex gauge to slow down time and attack your opponent

A lot of the characters got tweaked, most notably Firion, Kefka and Shantotto

Ah nice, and thank you for your reply.

I'll need to fully master DFF first and then purchase this game. :D

New DLC:

Music:
FF7 :
Crazy Motorcycle
Electric the Chocobo
Birth of a God

FF8:
Liberi Fatali
The Landing
Shuffle or Boogie.

Just got my Warrior of Light DLC...booted up the game, when out of the blue, Warrior of Light shouts "SQUARE ENIX" then "DISSIDIA DUODECIM, FINAL FANTASY"
