Completely Unrelated / Hey! It's been a while...
« on: 2013-07-08 01:04:20 »
I haven been here in years, but with FF7 being on Steam, I got to thinking about this place. (Heard about that over on the Star Citizen forums. Someone asked where the Win7 patches were, and I told him to come here.)

What I have I been up to? Let's see... I got into World of Warcraft for a number of years. Made a few good mods, but the game changed too much and lost too much for it to be fun anymore.

I'm currently working on building a modding website called ModCitizen 42 for a crowd-funded game called Star Citizen using the moniker of Kjasi. If you're a fan of space sims, check it out! It's being made by Chris Roberts, who created the Wing Commander series, Starlancer and Freelancer games. My site's going to be the mecca for modding the game (which we're promised is part of the main functionality.)

Not sure if I'll check in here again, but I wanted to say "Hi!".

I just updated all my FF7 proggies (you guys have been busy while I've been gone... ;) ) and I started looking through all the models in the field.lgp, when I came across something interesting.

I dunno if anyone's mentioned this before, but have you guys noticed the HQ Cloud and Jesse models in there? It's only those two, but they're definatly the quality of the battle models... (And this is from a fresh install of the game...)

Archive / Battle Crash
« on: 2004-01-19 02:28:50 »
Having followed Aaron's Great FF7 FAQ almost to a T, I have come across an interesting problem: A Battle crash.

Everything looks fine, and plays fine, until I get into a battle. At which time, (at a random interval) a fatal crash is performed. This has been happening for quite a while...

Win2k-SP4, GeForce-FX 5950, SB-Audigy 2 ZS, P4-1.8GHz, 1GB Ram.

I'm working on trying to get a dump of what's wrong, but so far, FF7 won't let me view the error. (Black screen-freeze...) TCIs?

Edit: Here's the Dr. Watson dump file for those who wish to view it.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Programmer Wanted
« on: 2003-02-19 22:05:54 »
This isn't really FF7 related, but it is technically related.

I need someone to create a program or something that will convert a Lightwave object (model) into a Maya 4.5 object.

I know Mirex has had a lot of experience with Lightwave objects, and I can get you a Maya 4.5 SDK, no problem.

Anyone wish to tackle this topic? If so, please respond!

Thanks in Advance!

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / More Damning of FF7!
« on: 2002-10-01 06:18:22 »
Related Topic: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1285

I just re-installed FF7 again. I support full 3D, and everything. Backgrounds look great! Still crashing when I change scenes and stuff. I tried at both highest and lowest GFX settings, so this leads me to believe it's a coding problem of some kind.

When I crash I get an error at instruction 0x0069996d, memory at 0x44200004, mem could not be "read". This sounds similar to our chocobo problem... Maybe it's just me though...

Quote
Instruction at 0x0069b26d referanced memory at 0x44200004 Memory could not be "read". (Earlier post about this problem.)

Instruction at 0x0069996d referanced memory at 0x44200004 Memory could not be "read". (This time around, with the same problem.)

So my question now is... What is, or what should be, at memory 0x44200004?

Any help would be greatly appreicated, and I'll try to provide as much information as anyone requires.

Thanks in advance!

Edit:

In going back into the tech-help forums, I've found that SSJ4_Flash Had a similar problem to me a while back. (http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1079)

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / World Map Question

How close are we go getting to a point where we can extract it as a mesh? I'd like to get a copy of it for my FF7 webcomic.

General Discussion / Qhimm's Forums T-Shirt!
« on: 2002-07-15 07:52:01 »
Yes, you too can see the only Qhimm's Forums T-Shirt at Sara And David!

Look for the character Alex, who is wearing a Qhimm's Forums T-Shirt. He comes in on the 5th issue, but you can see the shirt better in the 6th issue.

And yes, this is somewhat of a shameless plug, but I thought you all might want to see it. The hard part was making it look like the old dark logo, since I didn't have a copy of it. Ahh... The wonders of Photoshop...

"r u a sqaresoft executive?"

My response was "If I was, there'd be a PC edition of FFX." I also asked for his reason for asking.

What are you're guy's opinon of this? I'm not quite sure what to make of this, or why he asked me this.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Battle Textures
« on: 2002-05-20 02:50:29 »
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I think I found the battle textures for Final Sephiroth & Sephiroth Nibelheim.

**ac, & **ad in them contain textures used for the battle models. I haven't tried anything after **ad, but I know that **aa & **ab aren't textures. **ab doesn't do anything when I used tex2bmp on it, but **aa created an empty .bmp file. (0 bytes). **da didn't do anything either.

Just a bunch of FYI...

That is how I feel about my NEW FF7 problem. It seems that using my 3D card F*cks up the graphics. Software looks fine, Nvidia-mode doesn't load at all, and Accelerated without Nvidia produces these results:

Not only that, but no matter what GFX mode I'm in, whenever I leave a field (Exit Nibelheim, go into the mansion or another building) I get a fatal error. I've checked, and it's the same one every time. I get it even on the non-Choco-patched version of FF7. This is after a clean install of the game, FYI. Here's the Error:

Code: [Select]
Instruction at 0x0069b26d referanced memory at 0x44200004 Memory could not be "read".

Can anyone look at this for me, or tell me if they also get the same error or SOMETHING?! I'd like to think that I'm not the only one getting this error.

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / New Forum Suggestion
« on: 2002-02-11 20:57:00 »
In the Off-Topic section, can we get a Tech support forum? Many people are having tech problems that aren't directly FF related. I really think this would be a good idea. If you need a mod for it, I'll donate my services, as I have for the On-Topic Tech Support forum.

But I really think we should have an Off-Topic Tech Support froum.

General Discussion / Hey Saint...
« on: 2002-01-04 19:54:00 »
Can we drop everyone who's, say, 3 posts or less who hasn't joined in the last week or two? Basicly clear out the "useless" members?

I was just going through the user lists, and I happen to noticed about 2/5 the list on the first page alone was people with 3 or less posts, who haven't joined in the last two weeks, and I thought it might be good to drop them, since it doesn't look like many of them will be posting again anytime soon...

Just a thought...

General Discussion / We found the bug!

Thanks to some experiments carried out by The SaiNt and myself, we have found the bug. It resides in the "Bookmark This Topic" function, which adds it to your favorites section. Currently, when you bookmark it, it creates those double topics, however, when you remove it, the double topics go away.

Saint is going to debug the script in order to make those awful double topics go away for good, so expect a progress report from him some time soon.

Version 2 has been released. Just go to http://www.sephiroth3d.com to view it.

It is recommended that you use Netscape 6 & have Javascript enabled. Otherwise, results may vary.

I was going to get IE6 and do testing, but I can't seem to download it...

I got it, and here's the scoop!

Disc 1
#1) Movie is still as good as I remember it! (Personal Opinon)
#2) Both Teaser and Theatrical Trailers.
#3) Trailers to Starship Troopers and the new Metropolis anime movie.
#4) Two commentary tracks. One by the director and producers, second by the artists.
#5) Isolated Musical Score with commentary.
#6) Comes in English and French flavors. (Subbing and Dubbing!)

Disc 2
#1) Kickass disc intro!
#2) Huge "documentary" hi-lighting the development of the film.
#3) "Kelly's Thriller" music video. (The cast (minus General Hein) & 3 living Phantoms dancing Michael Jackson's "Thriller". No Singing.)
#4) Simply-rendered "outakes". (Hilarious!)
#5) Alternate Film Opening
#6) Aki's Dream (All the Dream sequences linked together.)
#7) Compositing reel. (Shows their compositing in action.)
#8) Final Fantasy Scene Creator (Re-edit the scene with the High Councel as they discuss using the Zeus Cannon over Dr. Sid's ideas. Not quite as good as it sounds, but fun!)
#9) Matte Paintings Reel
#10) Trailer Creation interview
#11) Movie bios of the main characters. (Not stupid still images! Yay!)
#12) Movie descriptions of the Jeep, Aki's Ship, and the vehicle used at the end of the film.
#13) Simply-rendered clips of "The Gray Project". (It's a short film they made before starting production of the FF movie. I have yet to discover if they have the full version on the DVDs, but I doubt I'll find it.)

Well, that's all I can remember. I need sleep...

General Discussion / I'm curious...
« on: 2001-10-04 07:40:00 »
How many people here use professional 3D programs, such as Lightwave, 3DSMax, Maya, ect?

And out of those people, who have FF7 related stuff?

Now out of those people, who can animate well? (IE: It doesn't look like robots, nor is it flying spaceships or the like.)

AFAIK, I'm the only one who passes all of those requirments. I would like to ad names to that list. Please let me know!

First, Ultima:

You need to find a way to have Ultima access the LGP files, and have the option to mass-convert a whole character. (Listed by their LGP names, ie: n_cloud_sk, sd_red_sk, ect.)

Also have the option, when mass converting, to make a TXT file list of all the different colors.

Also, being able to see/edit the whole model at once would be nice.

Now for Ifalna:

Can you add XYZ co-ords for the bone positions? With both this, and their rotation HPB (Heading, Pitch, Bank) would greatly increase it's ease. As would a funtion to confirm that you've editied the action the way you want, before it takes effect.

Also, have you noticed that you can't see the rotation edits unless your in Animation mode? I don't think that this is a good idea. If you start to edit while in animation mode, it should stop playback immediatly and you should see the rotation as you change it. When you're done, it continues playing with the edit.

These are just thought and things I would like to see in the near future.

Oh, and here is the fruit I've created with the help of both your programs:

I just rendered that in Lightwave, my perferred 3D program.

Is there a way to extract the Camera data from field files? For example, I want the postion, rotation, plus all the other camera settings from the field file for the city of Nimbelheim. This data SHOULD be in there, because it determines how the models are displayed as they move around the field file.

Has any one tried to extract this data? If you've been successful, let me know! I need this data for a test!

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / FF7 Game Question
« on: 2001-09-04 10:03:00 »
I recently came across a website that claimed that if you finished FF7 within 48 hours, you'd see a "special ending".

Can anyone confirm or deny this? I know that it's not true for the PC version, since I browsed all the movies, but could/is this true with the PSX version?

I'd like to know.
