How did you use the Ironite tool? Did you run it with wine? And are you using FFNX as well?

Hey what's up dude? So I did use Ironite with wine. Inside the Data folder, there's IrosArc.exe, I had to launch that. Ironite itself wouldn't work. From there I could navigate to the packed directory and unpack the iros into the unpacked directory. Make sure you read the xml files to see how 7th heaven would handle things. You'll have to do stuff manually. This works with mods mods, but there's some out there that do memory editing of the main ff7.exe, during runtime, those mods won't work. At least I haven't figured out how to modify the memory addresses during runtime. I guess I could always hard patch the ff7.exe. I'd have to figure out how to do that first. Only the iro of new threat gave me issues like that though. Satsuki's textures don't have any memory editing.

If you're gonna use New Threat, I always install it last, since I'm using the new threat standalone, it hardpatches stuff in the main data directory. I think there might some conflict with New Threat and Satsuki though. I know the button prompts don't work.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm using the canary of FFNX. I've had trouble getting its vulkan backend working, so I default to directx11. I use Lutris as a wine prefix manager. I can do dll overrides from there.

Thank you for this. It worked perfectly with SYW iros and the installation was simply moving the files to the mods/textures directory.

Yeah it wasn't too bad. I was able to organize Satsuki's textures into one big textures folder in the root. Satsuki also had some lgp files, which I manually put in the data folder, making backups of the original, since I'm using Linux, and the overwrite and direct folders don't work with Wine. Works pretty good. I'm not sure what the point of moviecam.lgp is? The movie camera when the fmv plays? "cd" and "movies" had their own moviecam, so I think cd was just for those short transitions to fmvs that happen a lot throughout the game. PS1 games were something huh? So many transitions from in engine to cinematics. You won't find that stuff nowadays.

Hey Sega Chief,

Thanks for fixing that Zack flasback. Got back into this game, and noticed it was fixed. Did you make that fight unwinnable? Lol. After that flying machine with the gatling guns, I got afflicted with sap and those wrecking ball robots murdered me. Lol. No idea if I could change that outcome.

Still noticed those bugs with the button prompts. I'm guessing you're still working on compatibility with Aavock's UI mod? It's cool. I can wait. Keep up the good work dude. You got this!

Are there any instructions for manual installation or at least a command line just to extract the assets from the pack?

Hey guys I got a few questions,

So I'm using Linux and I'm trying to get Satsuki's mod to work. I installed it fine, but the thing is certain things aren't working. So "SYWV5" has an "overid" directory. I don't think the game is loading that directory. I'm not getting the 30 fps movies, and I think, the battle backgrounds I'm not getting? It's hard to tell. The movies definitely aren't working. I'm not sure how to verify what is and isn't loaded.

The hd fields work fine, along with the hd magic. The vanilla mouth, cosmo sound, and psf music work fine.

Also, if I choose vulkan as the backend, the game will crash. It works fine under directx11, using the dxvk translation layer. Just thought that was odd.

If there are any Linux users here, hit me up. I'm curious to see if you guys got this working properly.

Note: I can get the hd movies to work, if I place them in my "data" directory. Thing is that "overid" directory has a bunch of other stuff, and I don't wanna move that into the "data" folder, not knowing what they overwrite.

I'd like to know more about the "overid" data structure. See what's happening. I'm willing to put in the time to figure this out. Thanks guys.

keep in mind it may be impossible for controller buttons to work without misalignments with ESUI controller button mod, the controller button mod that will allow these buttons to display (the aforementioned ESUI controller buttons mod) expects character spacing that is either identical to ESUI's font, or there is another version that expects exact vanilla spacing - since this mod is neither of those the controller icons on the font sheet will be a moot point outside of Reunion until the controller buttons mod is made to accept a custom spacing set (or a lot of manual, technical work is done... one of my UI mods, DFUI, has this same issue)

Hey Ori, thanks for responding man! So let me explain my mod setup, since I've been shuffling back and forth between so many different things. Right now I got,

That's it. Maybe I need some more mods? Like this ESUI? I don't know if it's compatible with the above mods though. Is it? I don't mind the spacing issue, just thought I'd mention it. I'm just a bit confused on how to proceed. I remember when I was using Reunion, there were a lot of those font mods like DFUI and Vanilla something, but there's no non-reunion version of them. At least I couldn't find. So far all I got is what Aavock and Satsuki have.

(I feel like I'm tinkering more now instead of playing the game. Hehe. It's all good.)

You need to edit the windows.bin file. This one should do it.
This requires text editong, I believe Makou Reactor can do the trick.
Manipulating boxes dimensions requires hex editing the ff7.exe file, Cheat Engine is the tool.

Alright, I'll try your windows.bin aavock. So what's this about Makou Reactor. Another mod? Man I gotta make a list. And now there's hex editing? Really? I been talking with Sega Chief, he said you could use hext files to modify the exe. Is that only with reunion? So ffnx can't do that? Huh.

All right, in this pack you'll find the updated fonts including minor fixes and corrected shadows.

Also, Kuraudo.'s request is done for Italians users.

And finally a a New Threat version with ◯,✖,▲, ◼ and directional buttons as placeholders just to show how easy it is to customize the textures with all the buttons you want.


Now, back to my chocobos!

Aavock, thanks! It's looking so much better. I noticed some spacing issues, so probably still a work in progress. Got some pictures.




(I don't know if you plan to make this menu show the ps1 buttons. Thought I'd ask.)

No you don't get it.
I have the Aavock menu included in pack
The external texture are used over internal texture
As the psx button replace some letters in the font, the NT mod button are overwritten with Aavock HD texture as it should be.
The only way to use Aavock texture + psx button will be to have those buttons in the Aavock texture file (replacing the corresponding letter as in the NT mod)

So from what I'm getting, Aavock hasn't implemented the psx buttons yet. That's why everything's referencing the stock pc button layout. But NT expects the psx button layout. So I just gotta wait for Aavock to implement his upscaled psx buttons. Right? The previous reply by Aavock said it's simple and it looks like he'll get on it. So we're good?

I got no problem with your pack, Satsuki, overwriting NT. I prefer the upscaled backgrounds, etc. Just got NT for difficulty.

Aavock, thanks for getting back to me! So I'll just have to wait for you to redraw those psx buttons then? I can do that, not a problem. I'll keep a look out when you or Satsuki update your graphics pack.

Sega Chief, so I took a look inside Satsuki's SYWV5/direct folder. He only has char in there, no menu. So your menu_us.lgp should be preserved, and not be overwritten. Right? Actually looking inside the data folder, I can't find a char folder at all, which .lgp would that be inside? I had the same issue when I was using your mod, and Satsuki's, with 7th heaven. So it's not a stand alone conflicting problem. Only time, I didn't have the problem was when I was using The Reunion, but I was using V4 of Satsuki's upscaled graphics, which didn't include any font or menu upscaling.

The NT Mod should come with a texture file that alters some texture sheets so that button icons are displayed instead of the native PC icons in the screenshot. I guess they seem to have been lost somehow in that particular install or are perhaps missing from the current build (will need to check). In the New_Threat_2.0/Direct/Menu folder there should be a bunch of .tex files (should probably also move discussion of this over to the NT thread).

Sega Chief, I've actually gone back to the standalone New Threat along with the standalone Satsuki's install, along with the canary build of FFNx. I did not have this issue with The Reunion, but that had Satsuki's version 4 which didn't have the UI and Avatar mods. Also gonna post this image, thought it was just a difficulty challenge with New Threat, but looking at it now, it might be a glitch.



Actually for your standalone, is it just in ./data/menu? You know looking at my data directory, I'm not seeing .tex files. Does your standalone include them?

Also, in my .toml, I have the direct path set to "SYWV5/direct". If that makes a difference. Sega Chief, only files for your mod went to the data folder, which I backed up beforehand, and the exe patch that you did. I patched out the cd check from that.

Edit: On another note, isn't Tifa amazing guys? Lol! Kicks so much ass!

As said in the first post of my mods : "Please Use Steam AIO installer unless you want to add other mods; if you want to add more mods then use 7th Heaven 2.3 + iros (no support from me here for 7th Heaven)."
So just go to 7h if you want to change mods, it's more conveniant for this

Lol I already mentioned before I won't be doing that. Can't use 7th heaven. Not a big fan. It's all good man. If I gotta figure it out on my own, I can. Thought it wouldn't hurt to ask for help.

Edit: Actually when I was using 7th heaven, back a month and some change ago, I had the same issue. Never reported it. First I thought it was an issue with the way I was using these mods without 7th heaven, but no, same issue. So there's that. This issue is also present with 7th heaven, and new threat and satsuki loaded at the same time, regardless of load order.

The problem is that nt mod seems to use unused font char to convert them in psx buttons.
In Aavock font the char are used as in the original pc font witch didn't provide psx buttons.

Cool thanks Satsuki. Is that something that can be fixed, or should I find a different font mod? Btw, Satsuki, what would I have to uncheck to use a different font mod?

My bad, I thought that the PSX buttons would display there as well.

Here you go. This was exactly the issue I was talking about. See how the buttons are color coded, but they're wonky? That's it.

It is indeed the font used in Satsuki's pack. Can you provide a few screenshots as I'm not sure about the visual incompatibilities you're experiencing?

Sure. This is all I got for now, but I've seen a few other issues. Like when describing button prompts, like switch or page down, or stuff like that. Usually, it'll have a color coded button next to those words, I'm guessing corresponding to the ps1 buttons, but those buttons are a garbled mess.

Is this the same mod that's in Satsuki's version 5? If it is, do you think you could take a look at new threat. I think there's some visual incompatibilities with your mod and his. Mainly the button prompts. It's all a garbled mess. If it's not your mod in Satsuki's release, then don't worry about it dude. It's all good. Keep up the great work!

Hey Satsuki got a question,

I'm using your 5.30. I was wondering if I could use another mod for fonts instead of yours. Is yours bundled with the menu artwork too? I'd have to get a replacement for that then.

Main problem, there's visual glitches with your mod and new threat installed. It's the button prompts. They're all garbled. I'm guessing there's a conflict with your mod and new threat.

I noticed when I was using version 4 with The Reunion, I didn't have this issue. You didn't include menu artwork and fonts with your version 4. So that's my reasoning.

Yeah the only thing in my notepad++ it says after change directory is SOH. No idea what that means. It's also in special text.

Also I found some other issues. When fast forwarding, the game tends to crash. It only does that when your mod is loaded. Otherwise it runs fine with The Reunion.

Edit: Oh yeah forgot to mention that! The Kalm save point SP smile man is glitched. You don't get teleported back. Well there you go! Lol.

A lot of mods can be applied manually, but it would be up to you to educate yourself on how to do everything the long way without causing numerous crashes. Once devs figure out an easier/more convenient way to do something, they move on from the older, more complicated one. Keeping support for the most tedious way to do something seems backwards, imo. In this way, 7H has evolved to fit that need. That it requires a check for a legitimate version of the game has been (from what I've been told) a necessary measure in keeping this long-running community in the company's good (or at least indifferent) graces.
If any of us garnered enough attention with a mod that led to company scrutiny of the community, the very last thing this place would need is finding out that the software distributed here made it possible to disable legitimacy checks. We'd have no one to blame for over a decade of progress being flushed down the toilets just cause people don't want to pay $4-12 for a game. In the name of self preservation, touching that as little as possible is the LEAST we could do.


That being said, if someone had a specific setup for how they like to play their games, with very little flexibility/adaptation-to-change/circumstances on their part, having them getting uppity at a mod developer for not catering to their very specific quirk would seem a bit selfish, wouldn't you say? Don't know if that helps put it in perspective for you

Nah I get it. Square Enix must be pretty anal if they would do something like that. I guess I'm used to mod communities like Half Life and Fallout. Valve and Bethesda/Obsidian/Black Isle must be pretty liberal in that I've never heard of any mods over there implementing disc checks, or hell leaving them in if the original game had it. Edit: Now that I think about it. I don't think Reunion implements any disc checks. I'll have to test that out. Been a while since I used it. Maybe you guys are a bit more strict/careful.

Oh I have no problem installing the games through discs! I actually have the old 98 release too. I just hate disc checks. I mainly use the steam version for my gameplay for convenience. But thanks I appreciate it! It's always good to have options.

you're being really unfair

all those games you are referencing are modern games that were actually made with modding in mind, especially fallout and skyrim


in ff7 even the simplest texture replacements will cause bugs if you dont know how the game works and what you are doing, code has to be added to make all this stuff work


shortly after skyrim was released bethesda actually released a set of modding tools to help modders mod it, these final fantasy games are the opposite - they tried to be masterpieces of their time and the source code was thrown away when the game was completed

Alright that's fair. The way this game is coded, it shouldn't even have mods. I'm just upset that a lot of mods are like "use 7th heaven or JUST ours, that's it!" I hate the fact 7th heaven requires admin access to work. Like wasn't there a way around that? There must've been one. It totally messes up my game flow when I'm using steam and picture mode. I can't have that. So I just won't use it.

And the fact the disc checks are still active on an exe after all these decades. I thought someone would've just said "Yo, people can buy this game on steam, the disc version is ancient, I'm getting rid of the disc check. It's an inconvenience." I'm not the programmer though, that's on them. It's on me to figure out ways around that.

Frustrating is all.
