General Discussion / Re: Square translation mistakes
« on: 2008-01-04 14:22:11 »
 • Jackie -> Janus
- probably because it sounds better
 • Sara -> Schala
- probably because it sounds better
 • Gasch -> Melchior
 • Hash -> Gaspar
 • Bosch -> Belthasar
    - These three may be of mythical origin in japan... research?

 • Grand Lion -> Masamune
- but things the average American audience couldn't pronounce are fun. Really.
Final Fantasy 4

 • Gilbert -> Edward
 • Fusuya -> Fusoya
 • Lydia -> Rydia
- isn't this close enough?

 • Cain -> Kain
- isn't this close enough?

 • Golbeza -> Golbez
- you get the idea from above...

 • Gil Turtle -> Gilgamesh (GBA)

Final Fantasy 5 - willing to ignore PSX version =)

 • Butz -> Bartz
- jokes for the original name... too plentiful
Final Fantasy 6 - Woolsey

 • Tina -> Terra
- perhaps the American audience was perceived to like an exotic-ish name?

 • Cayenne -> Cyan
- text space constraints

 • Mash -> Sabin ("Matthew" is another possible interpretation)
- just had no idea what to do with it/space constraints for the latter

 • Stragos -> Strago
- original sounds like a plural?

 • Mog* moogles -> Ku*
 • Biggs (Darklighter) -> Vicks (fixed GBA, PSX)
 • Ultima Weapon -> Atma Weapon (fixed GBA)
 • Midgarsorm -> Terrato
- likely should be translated as Midgar's Worm or Serpent, space constraints. Terrato is earth-related.

 • Cait Sith -> Stray
- come FF7, i had to research what a Cait Sith is. Stray cat is pretty easy.

 • Melton -> Merton
- close enough.

 • Jeff -> Gerad
boredom?

 • Rest in Peace -> The World is Square
- Square can be too full of themselves
Final Fantasy 7

 • Aerith -> Aeris (indistinguishable in Japanese, but pre-existing documents have "Aerith" in Roman letters)
 • Midgarsorm -> Midgar Zolom
- Stated above, should have been Midgar's Worm or Serpent

 • Cockatrice -> Kokatolis
- Pronounce with me... Koh-Kah-Toh-Rees. Cockatrice.
Final Fantasy 9

 • Enkidu -> Enkido (Excalibur II dialog)
- Oddly off. Not the end of the world, is it?
Breath of Fire - Woolsey

Chrono Trigger - Woolsey

 • Evil king -> Magus (not Woolsey's fault)
- Shorter/easier/better sounding than "Demon King".

 • Vinegar -> Ozzie
 • Soy Sauce -> Slash
 • Mayonnaise -> Flea
    - you really think characters named after condiments would have flown here?

 • Biggs (Darklighter) -> Vicks (fixed PSX)

Super Mario RPG - Woolsey

 • Koopa Shell -> Noknok Shell (nokonoko = "Koopa Troopa")
 • Crystaller -> Culex
- these two were probably both space constraints
No, I don't believe so... That sure would be handy.

3
No, it's not your English, that's pretty darn good. Something's just being lost in translation, here, that's all.

By 6 Lv. 4s you say? I'm... not certain we have that one, either. =S

4
I can only assume the first would be the "Quick Hit" ability, as for the latter... I'm not sure what that one is. I do for sure have quick hit. Handy thing it is, too.

As for no dark aeons and Penance, I think it sucks. Could use a challenge seeing as last time I was actively playing, there was only two more arena creatures that needed an arse-kicking.

5
Having only the US version within my grasp, I have a limit of available things... No cool dark aeons, and no Ribbon, either... But my standard good armor consists of:

Auto-Phoenix
Auto-Regen
Auto-Protect
Auto-Haste

Has worked really well so far, although I haven't actually played for ages... Need to finish off the monster arena someday.

And to keep me from yelling in frustration at the monsters that status-ail the hell out of you, here's my alternate:

Auto-Med
Darkproof
Confuseproof
Poisonproof

General Discussion / Re: How do you feel About...

Where those two sarcasm?
Yes.

Coz enix absorbed square, and there was a dragon quest 8 i think, and the second one doesn't really make any sense.
Given that I was unaware that it had gone that way, it had made sense. I'd thought it was the other way around. Apparently from this person's point of view, a good game company and another good game company joining forces makes a crappy game company. Or perhaps he just doesn't like the name...

Unless your an emo...
I've never completely understood what an "emo" is. Seems to me it's what goth used to be, just renamed for a new generation of pathetic.

How do you feel about...

1.Square Enix replacing Square Soft? Personally, i hate it.
Yes, we'll just have Square absorb Enix and it can vanish into obscurity. So long, Dragon Quest.

2.Editing FFVII? I dont mind it. But i will NEVER enjoy FFVII if it is not in its original state.
Lack of creativity. Change is, of course, horrible.

3.Square Enix's New Games ( FFX+)? I think after FFIX they really killed the BEST game type ever. Turn Based. Screw that real-time crap. It kills Final Fantasy. And their game plots are rubbish, i mean, who wants to help Schoopufs, or some cocky Cross dressing poof who thinks hes "a real man" ( sorry mods for my language ).
FFX was turn based, had a rather good main plotline (unless, of course, you like to focus on the side stuff and not on the main plot. After all, what's the main story got to do with it?) Have you actually tried the game, or are you complaining about something you've just heard things about? I can't say I'm fond of an MMORPG version, but have you actually given FFXII a shot, or just decided it would be horrible because it's not turn based? I thought it would be pretty bad, but I've given it a shot, and I rather like it.

And

4.FFVII on PS3? Square Enix think it could happen. i think it could too, but knowing the team at Square Enix, there will be too much story line changes to make it Fun and Reminiscible. Id apreciate more itracate Battle systems, Effects and MUI effects, New Materia system, with co-inciding effects, such as ( Fire 2 + Water 1 = Steam (60:40 Damage:Blind) ) And if we added Wind we could get the spell to Use Water 1 after Steam
(Steam, Evaporate into Wind ( clouds ) = Rain.

So How do you feel?
Never really was all that into FFVII, nor do I have a PS3, so it doesn't affect me too much. Not that it was a bad game, I'm just not into this whole fanboyism that surrounds it.

8
And don't try to use it with an emulator. The only one it works with is Dolphin.

Troubleshooting / Re: Problem with FF VII on XP
« on: 2007-08-06 09:04:36 »
Well, I do have a small curiousity, it's been nagging at me a little. What is this "Ultima Edition"?

10
I'd personally like to see more Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II stuff... I make papercrafts with them, including a life-sized model, but because of a lack of one model, I have to disappoint my 6-year-old daughter, there's a keyblade she wants. =P

That aside, should anyone want to work on such thing again, my suggestion would be to talk to Macbearchen ( http://macbearchen.blogspot.com/ ), he would likely be more willing to help than yaz0r. It would be nice to see more done.

Troubleshooting / Re: ASE plugin and Max 7
« on: 2007-08-02 09:22:20 »
Well, with that I finally got it to work. But the dlls in the main folder and the plugin in the plugins folder, and it all worked. But, because 3DS Max confuses the heck out of me, I just get a textureless yellow model and no idea what to do with it. But at least it won't bug me that I can't get it to work anymore.  :-D

I don't know what pcreator is, I'm not trying to edit FF7, I have my own reason for what I want to do, and all I need is a little help with the ASE file importer.

Because from the look of things ASE keeps the nice, smooth colours the original models have, while 3ds and every other format I've tried just try to approximate. Badly.

Don't get around much here, eh? The models are originally from FF7, in .ASE format, and were exported by Biturn.

Troubleshooting / ASE plugin and Max 7
« on: 2007-07-30 23:17:44 »
Whenever I try to use the ASE import/export plugin with 3DS Max, I get the following error:

DLL <...asciiimp.dli> failed to initialize.
Error code: 126 - The specified module could not be found.

What do I need to do?  :?

Troubleshooting / Re: Biturn crash
« on: 2007-07-20 07:00:58 »
Yup, even in folders with English characters. I don't think I have folders with anything else! It may be that while the backslash is still the button used to make the path divider, it appears as something different in Asian settings, I have the problem while chatting in some originally-Asian games. I believe it usually shows as a yen symbol, which is a capital "Y" with two dashes across the middle.

« on: 2007-07-19 16:34:14 »
How interesting. I am running under Asian language settings, so that may be a contributing issue. However, running it with a command line parameter caused it to actually run, no matter where I have it. Running it from the command line with no parameter still caused it to crash. I guess that just means my logfile will have to get deleted every now and then so it doesn't get too big, hehe.

Thanks! =)

[Edit] Can't browse directories from within Biturn without a crash. >.>
Oh, well. I've changed my language settings for less.

General Discussion / Re: Yaz0r has shut down! :(

Uploading as I type are, I believe, all the tools yaz0r made that one could need. In this upload are...

FFXdumper
FFXview (old program)
FF12dumper
KHdump 0.1
KHdump 0.2
KHview (old program)
KH2dump
Model Viewer WX (newer multi-format viewer)

There's also an archive of all of the above tools.

Here's some basic tool instruction, but I am by no means an expert, or to be contacted for support.

FFXdumper: You need to make an ISO of the FFX or FFX-2 game disc and use the program from the command line.
KH2dump: Alter the kh2dump.bat to point to your disc drive, put the KH2 disc in and run the bat with the exe in the same folder.

Downloads can all be found here:

Troubleshooting / Biturn crash
« on: 2007-07-16 19:43:53 »
Whenever I try to open Biturn, it crashes. I'm not sure what else to say, it never opens, just crashes. After I post this, I will see if it is perhaps disagreeing with a program I have running, in the meantime, if anyone else has had and subsequently fixed this issue, I can use help.

[edit] Yeah, I shut down all unnecessary programs, but it still crashes.

Well, if anyone has the FFXII dumper, then I'll have the complete set, including older viewers. I'll get to uploading them a little later...
