« on: 2014-07-12 19:27:11 »
I got all of the .dll's to work.  RaW is in DLL_in along with the new addons.  All of the tonberry mods are in my parent ff8 directory. Magic.  Thanks DLPB.

Here are Omzy's post
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15291.0

You have to download Tonberry 1.4 and inside the .rar you'll find the 3 dlls needed.

(Here's direct link, if you don't want to donwload the entire .rar) https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByMkI_Nb8OmJSkRxRHgwb1M4SkE/edit

EDIT: By the way, Mcindus, Publish.dll doesn't work for me, nor HP.dll, but Damage.dll works. Very strange that certain dlls works for ones and doesn't for others...

Those .dll's seem to work for me.  I haven't been able to test HP.dll, but I don't have to see a square-enix logo anymore and monsters are a bit harder. ;)

Hard Mode and Add-on's Launcher
Difficulty Mod and other Add-on's for FF8 on STEAM
Now All Languages Supported!
Mod Updated with easier process!

These mods use HextLaunch from DLPB's Tools
And they will until he finishes his new version of ddraw.dll for FF8 :)

I compiled some old mods for those of you using the STEAM version of FF8

Add-on's:
Hard.dll: Makes the game generally more difficult:
-   Decreases the player's melee damage by a factor of 1.5
-   Increases the level of enemies by a factor of 1.1
-   Increases the melee damage of enemies by a factor of 1.1
    (this does not effect magic damage)
Damage.dll
-   Max damage increased to 65k instead of 9999; affects your group and opponents too.
HP.dll
-   Max hp cap increased to 32k from 9999
Magic.dll
-   You won't lose magic from your inventory when you cast it in battle.
    (Negates Double and Triple effects. I don't use this one.)
Publish.dll
-   Removes the Square Enix splash logo on Startup

CHECK HERE FOR HEXT FILE UPDATES AND INFO:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15354.msg258805#msg258805

Instructions:

1.   Move "HL_Files" and "FF8_Hard_Launcher" into your parent FF8 directory.
     (steamapps/common/FINAL FANTASY VIII)
2.   Launch the game from the new "Hard" Launcher
3.   The command window will let you know if .dll injection was done correctly
     (there is also a HextLaunch.txt log file)

*If you're using RaW, you can move the RaW.dll into /HL_Files/DLL_in as well to resolve possible issues
**If you use any Tonberry mods, do not move any of the Tonberry .dll's into this location - it will render Tonberry useless.

======================================================
If you choose, you may remove the Magic.dll and Publish.dll Add-On's with no glitches

I went to re-download the file to make sure my step-by-step instructions are clear, and it seems like Google says your file is corrupted by a virus and only the owner can download it.

If they are loaded, they are loaded...  they should definitely work.

They do here, when loaded.  Are these DLL designed to be used with ff8_es?

Raw should.

For some reason, when I had the Tonberry callback dll's in the DLL_in folder, it wasn't loading anything properly (even RaW).  I eliminated the issue by only putting RaW.dll and the .dll's i wanted to add into the DLL_in folder.

Gameplay / Re: FF8 Steam and Addons

yeah, that's right.  Any DLL that is injected into ff8 afterwards by a launcher or by aalis driver, needs to go into hextlaunch in_dll

Basically any custom mod/dll.

So - here's my file path structure:
FINAL FANTASY VIII/HL_Files/DLL_in/ all of my .dll's

I was getting the error for every .dll with my settings.ini file as:
Code: [Select]
[HextLaunch]
File=FF8_EN.exe
Process=
Window=
LoadHext=0
InjectDLL=1
NoInput=1
Delay=1000
So I changed it to:
Code: [Select]
[HextLaunch]
File=FF8_Launcher.exe
Process=FF8_EN.exe
Window=
LoadHext=0
InjectDLL=1
NoInput=1
Delay=1000
When HextLauncher runs, I see that it keeps trying to load FF8_EN.exe and failing until I actually click 'PLAY' in the launcher...
Then I get 'xxx.dll loaded successfully' for every .dll in the .log, but none of them are actually working in-game.  Not even RaW. (and i left bass.dll in the FFVIII folder).

Any tips?

Ok I fixed it.  FYI - I had to keep RaW and all tonberry .dll's out of the DLL_in folder for this to work properly.

Also - the .dll's seem to work find now - as I don't see the Square Enix logo on startup, I know that Publish.dll is working properly.  This is good news!

Time to post some fun on the Steam forums.

No need to apologise! Hahaha

I know that, and it's obvious that it should work that way, but you know, sometimes Windows is so "magical" that you have to do absurd things in order to get it working.

I've been trying with this a couple of hours and I'm getting exhausted man. I tried by installing FF8 both in C:/ drive and D:/ drive (I have 2 steam drives), and booting hextlaunch from the game's folder and from outside of it. It's still not working. You guys made it work in your steam versions? The same dlls? The same config file? (obviously subtituing FF8_ES for EN or whatever).

I'm starting to think that the problem is the Spanish version...

Are you using any Tonberry Mods? or the sweetFX graphic plugin?  If so, I'm not sure, but that might be the problem.

I've been trying to test this myself and have been having the same issues as JeMaCheHi.  Going to continue to test.

Should I put ALL .dll's here? like RaW, the tonberry dll injector, etc?  or just the difficulty .dll's that we're trying to add? (considering it all works fine as-is)

808
OK, i'll see what i can do to help, but i might not be the fastest tester but i'll get on it and see if i can make a list ;) Give me a week or so though, lol.

No problem!  If it doesn't make it on this release, it will be on the next.  Thanks!

This mod seems to cause minor glitches or artifacts or whatever you call it in the text itself in form of small black lines or dots, which can even be seen in your own screenshots if you enlarge them but other than that, awesome mod. Good work and cant wait for the beta release. I'm very grateful for all your hard work guys. Keep up the good work, let's get closer and closer to perfection. Cheers.

Edit: Oh btw the Pet Pals won't work properly for me. Shows no image, only text. Hope this will be fixed in future releases. Once again, keep up the good work, you rock.

I'm gonna wait for the beta release before i start another complete run through FF8 from start to finish :D Hope it will be soon, but take your time to get it right.

Thanks!  Beta will be sweet if it works properly ;)

Also - if you can tell me where the artifacts are, I can find them.   Please make a list of any others you notice.
Most of the time, it's a misaligned letter or it's because my drop shadow is one pixel too far to the left.  Something I've already fixed would be: every time you see a number 5, there is a line through the next letter or number you see -- this is actually the left side of the number 6 - so I've fixed a few that I've noticed issues with... like the lowercase letter 'u' bleeding into the 't' frame on the right side, etc.

Please make notes of any other text artifacts you see!
The next mod will also very likely have a few of these artifacts (beta!) but if we work together to catalog the issues, they will all be handled eventually :)

I'm going to go check on those pet pals images right now.

Releases / Re: [REL] Tripod - FF8 Triple Triad HQ
« on: 2014-07-09 15:19:03 »
Check the image files that aren't showing up in Photoshop and if the layers show Background (locked) then right click it and click 'Layer from background" so that it just says Layer 0. Save the file and try again. If they are already 'Layer 0' then it may be a Tonberry issue which I will look into.

I'm pretty sure that after we had that last formatting issue, I went through every image file and ensured that they were in the proper format - so all current releases shouldn't have any weird background locked mode issues anymore.  I even get the 1/3 screen issue every now and then... and when it happens, it stays that way until you restart the game... and sometimes it happens on the new title screen as well.  Pretty sure it's a hashing problem, but I'm here to assist in any way!

I had the same problem with him. I restarted and it didn't work. Background in card game is not HD quality.

Make sure you have the latest version of "hashmap" from the Tonberry page.  It should work with v1.2 and later.
Also - update your graphics drivers - this step has helped a lot of people with DirectX issues.
If that doesn't work, try re-installing Tripod and then reboot when you're done with everything.

Are you playing the English language version of the game?
Can you post your system specs?

WIP / Re: [In Development] FF8 Voiceover Project
« on: 2014-07-01 20:33:33 »
Awww. I missed auditions.

Oh well.  I guess I'll just have to keep pumping out FF8 mods! ;)

On the topic of action sounds:
We wouldn't necessarily have to replace or re-write script... we could extract the action sounds (gunblade, punches, etc) and then combine them with dubbed voices and then compress the file back down into the game.  This wouldn't be nearly as cheesy as everyone expects - it just takes the right touch.  I'm an audio editor/producer and can really see some of this breathing life into the project if it's handled correctly.

813
So - currently we have a workaround for the achievement crashes - just disable the Steam overlay in settings.

Now unfortunately, the memory allocation causes crashes at a certain point (after the app reaches 1.6 gigs of RAM use) and it's causing everyone to have to save the game and then quit/restart the .exe file every hour or so.

Is there a way to fix the memory issue easily? I hope its not a huge hassle for Omzy.

Only 2 major bugs and one already has a solution.  Great work!

814
If only someone could make an achievements mod that had actual hard-to-accomplish achievements...

This made me rofl.  I know i'm easy.  whatever.  :)   I like this idea

Thanks guys!

I don't have anything on youtube yet, but thanks for the suggestions and the great idea!

816
@Mcindus
Like I said before, opening the overlay before you get an achievement/synchronization only works if you're offline. At least for me. Can you try oon your machine and see the overlay behaves differently for you?

I just tested it and it behaved smoothly in 'offline' mode, but crashed 2/3 times when I was online - so I would definitely go with the offline option.  It does allow for achievements, etc still - which is very nice.  People get a bit upset at having to deactivate sync, so it makes the mods a bit harder to want to use.

817
WORKAROUND:
Hey everyone - Alexios found a workaround dealing with the overlay.  Pull up the overlay (shift+tab) before you get an achievement while you're in game and you can avoid the 'unhandled exception' crash.  This only works if you put yourself in 'offline' mode, but still allows you to get achievements.  Hint: before getting a new GF, first time you beat the game, etc.

Thanks to Alexios for the workaround!

Hope this helps for a little while until we get some things sorted out!

Hi, nice mod, i loved it!  ;D

but i have an problem here, i'm using the v1.1 you released but the background texture you did and the numbers textures you changed don't seem to be working for me :(

See it? it's still the old background&numbers, hope you can help me.
edit:i'm using FFVIII new release from steam, the version of the game is the 1.0.11.

Do you have Tonberry v1.2 installed?  Can you uninstall/reinstall the mod?  Also - make sure you have the Steam client open and not just the FF8 exe.  Just to be sure - restart your computer. for some reason, i think directx9 needs to be reset sometimes. (not sure though)  Let me know if any of this works.

819

Edit:
Here some suggestions:
The memory needs a better management. It would be good to have some kind of a prebuffer which loads nearby scenes in the memory and unloads scenes if not needed (I can imagine that this could be a lot of work to find a way to define what is nearby and what isn't).
The menu stuff should have it's own memory and should never be cleaned.
The world map: I believe that hash algorithms isn't suited for it very well, it feels like as if Tonberry wants to update the textures with every movement of the camera, the strange thing is that there aren't any textures to update yet. :?
The battle: well we can't say anything yet, but I believe that the magic should be handled similar as the menu and should be loaded in a prebuffer.
Well this are only suggestions of one who has no idea how everything works but I hope that one or two points may give you a good idea to improve the tool a bit further.

These suggestions are win.  I think if the menu had it's own memory and loaded seperately, that it would eliminate the crashes when people get achievements; but that's just conjecture.

Definitely the issue I was having before when I crashed when I got Ifrit - It was along with the achievement.  So - when this error happens, the text blocks out and shows something to the effect of this:

And then you get an unhandled exception.  It makes first playthroughs rough.
Hopefully it's a hashing problem that's easy to fix. :)

I think that if the game is pulling up the achievement window and tonberry tries to replace a texture at the same time, the texture fails to load.. which sometimes causes a nasty crash, and other times just makes you lose text res or some other res for a while.

821
There's a guy on the steam forums that says his game is crashing whenever it tries to sync with SE servers and the trophy icon doesn't seem to show.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/39150/discussions/0/540744936068432979/

FYI - He didn't give any more info.

822
You know the ugly low quality grey background behind the text is that replaceable?

I'm pretty sure it is, and it's part of the SeeD mod that isn't out yet.  It, along with the large text and other Icons, etc. are the hardest piece to the puzzle, so I figured I would release the Alpha without them, as it might take me another week or more to get that last part in. (but oh, what a part.)

Here's a preview:

This is the main part I'm using from the old SeeD mod, but I had to re-create a lot of it and there are still minor alignment issues... just need to figure out where they go, etc.

823
Trying to get this to work on my old Vaio Laptop but i get an error. Is my old Mobility Radeon HD 3470 - 256mb Graphics Card too weak maybe? Also, when i installed Microsoft VC++ Redistributable it was repaired. I'm doing everything correctly i think. Must be either my graphics card or a problem with the Redistributable...what else could it be? Any suggestions? Not even the Tripod Mod will work on its own, but i can play the unmodded steam version without any problems, hmm....weird.

What error? If it's some kind of MCblahblah.DLL error, it's the VC++

Make sure you have the latest versions of Tonberry - also, make you sure you exit steam completely before you mod.  You need to download your latest graphics drivers for your video card so you have DirectX9.  Also, since you had a problem with VC++, I would uninstall/reinstall it.
