Hey guys, it's been a while.

I've got mod problems. I'm learning Chinese and I thought a great way to do it would be to play one of my all time favorites with a translation patch but it seems to cause problems. The OpenGL driver quits working and Anxious Heart won't load. Does anyone know a fix or workaround? Does the Chinese patch change some dependencies?

Releases / SymphoniC Final Fantasy VII Soundtrack Project.
« on: 2011-07-29 12:17:01 »
UPDATE : All links to my remixes will be posted in this very post from now on. That way you don't have to go digging through a long list of posts just to find that link you're looking for.

I'm not just a hacker, I'm also a composer. Soooo...
I saw what everyone was doing in Team Avalanche to utilize their talents with 3d graphics design and was amazed. So I decided that I would really like to do the same thing on more of a musical level. I've heard some of the musical efforts to enhance FFVII's amazing soundtrack, and well I would like to do something a bit different... something to completely and totally blow the minds of FFVII fans all over. For years, as a musician, I've been heavily inspired by Nobuo Uematsu and his works throughout the FF series. Plus I've heard official FFVII remixes, and I've been disappointed. Anyways, several weeks ago I completely redid Jenova's theme... thinking I was going to post it as a remix on OCremix. But instead, this may very well be the birth of an exciting and awesome project for all of us. Anyways. I redid this song from scratch in a sequencer, and by memory of how the actual song went. I plugged in my guitar and just went for it. If this project has enough support, I will definitely redo the entire OST for everyone. I think it would compliment Team Avalanche's hard work (I totally support what they're doing).

Here's my remix of Jenova's battle theme (J-E-N-O-V-A)

Here's my remix of Opening, in the opening FMV of FFVII itself (Separate from Bombing Mission).

The second half of the J-E-N-O-V-A remix is original and will most likely be removed as it most likely won't fit with the actual battle. Let me know what you guys think!

Now that I finished that PAL patch for damage break... it's time to move on to a patch for HP/MP break. Does anyone know which file/s in the PSX version contain the instructions responsible for the caps? I don't think they're in either BATINI.X nor BATTLE.X.
Also if anyone knows which file/s contain the instructions responsible for displaying those digits in menu and in battle that would be great. I checked Gears, but I'm afraid there's not enough info in there for me to even guess.

Here it is. Now you can do more than 9,999 damage, maximum of 32,000 (all 5 digits show) on PAL copies. Download it, extract it to a folder, and read the readme. This is for the Playstation version of FFVII.

I need someone to test this patch on the PAL-G FFVII SCES-00869
Report bugs here or to my email (found in readme.txt).

Unlike Arms' patch for the NTSC USA region... this one leaves Lucky 7777's intact. I'd rather add features than take them away.
Anyways, this patch is part of a set. The other one's aren't finished yet, but they (or it) will break the HP and MP limits once I complete that and all of my patches will be made to work with all regions of FFVII.

Enjoy.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Hard Coding FF7 PSX
« on: 2011-07-27 03:02:53 »
What is the preferred method of hardcoding changes made to FF7's engine over to the actual files on disc for PSX? This is the first time I've tried assembly hacks on games in general, so I'm learning as I go. The Playstation doc was too vague about how to do this. So I figured I'd ask and get a quick answer. What tools will I need to assist me in accomplishing this?

Before I get started with the main question, I'd like to start with a hello to everyone here at Qhimm. I'm new here but also I'm an experienced moderator and hacker at http://www.lan.st, which is a console hacking forum (many breakthroughs in PSP hacking have happened there). I must say... it's quite impressive that the PSX version of Final Fantasy 7 is actually hackable to the extent that it is and since I enjoy mods and modding and Final Fantasy ;-) , I'd like to help you all out around here with FF hacking in general and inform you that I'm familiar with several programming languages, hex editting, etc. So yes you can throw technical details my way and I can actually understand you. Introduction out of the way, let's get started immediately.

I'd like to bring damage and HP break to all regions of FF7 psx. Those of you who are familiar with ARMs PSX Damage Break patch for FF7 may notice that this patch causes a crash at the start of battle in other region versions of this game. I've tested this on FF7 PAL region code SCES-00867 and can confirm that ARMs patch is unfortunately non effective for this copy of FF7. It may or may not work for other regions, I suspect that it works in NTSC-J copies, but I can't test that. Anyways, the problem probably lies in the way that these versions of the game are coded, we all know that there are resolution differences between NTSC and PAL. Afaik, the coding that influences how much damage is possible can be found in files "Batini.X" and/or "Battle.X" within the "Battle" folder, I suspect that control over max HP may be found there as well. So I suppose before I get too ahead of myself I'm going to ask... do we have any documentation on those files with this region? If not, and if no one around here knows anything about what's in those files then maybe someone can point out to me the best resources to use to debug/reverse those files and make the proper modifications because modifying PSX games is definitely a whole new creature for me. But like I said before if anyone knows anything about these files that is useful then by all means pitch in and I'll gladly get started on making a patch/es for this and other regions of FF7 so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of this modification. Thank you!

PS - I assume that we use PSX assembly to make these kinds of mods. I have everything I need to do it, so while I await replies I'm going to get started, again... anyone with ideas or info that will help, let me know!
