SOLVED: FF7 PC: Crash at Sleeping Man's Cave
« on: 2011-10-25 08:59:58 »
I'm running FF7 with the Bootleg installer and its associated mods (except for Trish & Mike's custom weapons), in Hardcore mode. The game goes to black and freezes every time I enter the Sleeping Man's cave (where you get the Mythril/Bolt Ring). My app.log:

I've not played that far in hardcore, but I didn't have a crash in normal mode.  If you post your save game, I'll investigate the issue. I don't think it's a damaged model. If you load the game in normal mode, do you still get the crash? Are you using new spell names?
Have you installed the hardcore 1.05 update?

Yeah, it crashes in normal mode too. I am using new spell names. I updated the hardcore mod anyway just for kicks, but the same crash results. Here's my save: I also included the crash save the game made. http://www.mediafire.com/?ietjtc6kg5jfzf0

Thanks for the help!

I found the problem.
The crash is due to the new sound effects.
The problem is fixed in the upcoming 0036 release of Bootleg.
When installing Bootleg 0035, DO NOT INSTALL NEW SOUNDFX!

In the meantime, you can fix this issue by restoring the original sound effects.
Copy these files from the original FF7 Install Disk:
    \data\sound\audio.dat
    \data\sound\audio.fmt
Paste and overwrite the files in the game folder:
    \data\sound\

I apologize for the frustration.
Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention.
This is the 2nd time a sound effect appears to work but crashes the game.
I'm still learning the rules when it comes to replacing sounds.
