Does anyone know much about the PSP save file format. In particular the header which appears to contain a 160bit checksum (SHA1??) which prevents you from modifying the data (PSP just re-formats the memory card). I wanted to adapt Jenova to edit FF7 save games created on the PSP.

Okay so just got round to seeing this Avatar film - do you think Mr Cameron is a Final Fantasy 7 fan then? All this about borrowing energy from the planet / the planet protecting the balance of life at the towards the end sounded very familiar ;)

To celebrate ten years of Final Fantasy VII and stir longings for a FFVII remake, Square Enix held a Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Gallery in Tokyo. The exhibition is on display until September 2nd in the Spiral Garden and features original art and illustrations for Final Fantasy VII and its spin-offs. Sony Computer Entertainment honcho Kaz Hirai was also in appearance and wrote an English note on the message board (above), which reads:

"Congratulations on 10 fantastic years! The best is yet to come"

If by "best," he means more spin-offs, then no thanks. But if he means "best" by a big ol' FFVII remake, then I just might agree. Though, he could be talking about FFXIII or just in general. Who knows? Kaz does!

Oh the best day of the year.... it's not far off now!

Scandals already:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6405457.stm

All previews are up at: http://www.eurovision.tv/addons/mediaplayer/

... not got through them all yet. I like the Bosnian Entry (again). The British act is pathetic (again).

So start planning your Eurovision parties (Jari - are you actually going???!).

Everyone: Pick a country (you can't pick it if it's already taken by someone) - if that country wins you don't get a prize - but you can brag about being the winner ;-)

I choose Belarus.

Best Geeky Jokes Ever (going round our internal newsgroups at the moment):

One for the Maths Students:
> What's the integral of 1/cabin?
>> If you answered log(cabin) you're close
>> The actual answer is a Beach Hut - you forgot to add the "C"!

One for the Chemists:
> Chemist walks in to a bar, says "I'll have a pint of Adenosine Tri-Phosphate please"
>> Barman says "That'll be 80p"!

One for the Computer Scientists:
> Why do computer scientists get confused between Halloween and Christmas?
>> Because Oct 31 = Dec 25!

I love this film. I’ve wasted most of my weekend watching it (and re-watching it). Has anyone else seen it?
If you haven't heard about it... it's adapted by the Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix) and set in a Totalitarian-London where one man tries to do what Guy Fawkes failed to do and blow up Parliament.
It's quite political and I suppose it's about a battle between freedom and the state and it's quite un-nerving seeing what could happen if we gave the government our total obedience and the ideas are probably not that far-fetched any more! (Think ID cards etc…)
Anyway, go watch it for yourself and make up your own mind.
Naturally it has some kick-ass fight scenes, Natalie Portman has an unbelievably sexy English accent (even if it really is not that convincing) and Hugo Weaving as V is brilliant!
It's got some pretty interesting dialogue in it as well:
Quote
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.

It's here! UEFA Champions Leage Final eat your heart out... its Eurovision semi-finals night! My 3rd bestest-ever time of the year (after Birthday and New Year)!

I'm rooting for Finland as I'll be dammed if I'm going to my Eurovision party on Saturday night as a Semi-final looser (again), but I hope Monaco do well 8-)

Square Enix has announced that it will screen a special preview edition of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children at the 61st Venice International Film Festival, held from September 1-11 in Venice, Italy. The 70-minute movie will be released on DVD, revisiting Midgar two years after the conclusion of the video game. In addition to the old characters including Vincent Valentine, Tifa, Cloud, Sid, and Tarks, new characters will be introduced, as well as a new "menace" causing the spread of a mysterious illness.

"We are honored to be a part of Venezia Digitale, this exciting new category that highlights the values of innovation and artistry of digital imagery," said director Tetsuya Nomura. "As we continually strive to create digital entertainment that pushes the boundaries of technology and art, we welcome the opportunity to become a part of the world cinema community through the Venice International Film Festival." The movie will be shown as part of "Venezia Digitale," the new digital image category of the Venice International Film Festival. Since the movie is still in development, it will only be a preview of the actual movie.

This sucks... I just got back from Venice

Archive / Adjusting the brightness levels?
« on: 2004-03-22 14:55:43 »
Okay so my brother asked me to bring back FFVII from uni so he could play it over the easter holidays. So I have it installed... it runs perfectly on the computer (windows xp!) and I even got it to work with NoCD's (easy as pie... don't know why some people have problems doing it) the problem is that the computer is quite old and has a naff graphics card. Think it is a Diamond Vipper II. Anyway.. the screen appears really dark and it makes moving around certain places <I.e the sewers in Midgar> quite hard.

I messed around with the Gamma settings in the Graphics Card settings but the game doesnt seem to use these settings at all. So my question is does anyone know of a way to adjust the brightness settings?

Thanks :)

Version = 1.02 + Chocobo Patch

I've currently got a real pain of an assignment to do at the moment basically simulating an "Autonomous Vehicle Control System" and one of the aspects of the system requires me to represent an entire road network somehow so it can be used to a) calculate shortest distance paths for a journey and b) navigate a vehicle on them.

Now I'm a bit stumped on the road network representation. Anyone got any good suggestions on a data structure for modelling a road network? I don't know much about Graph Theory but I'm researching that. Could it be done using a database? Obviously the roads need to have knowledge about junctions with other roads and speed limits etc.. so using databases looks tricky.

Just randomly browsing the net and came across this Final Fantasy VII game:

Anyway, the game starts with you having to battle Sephiroth and when you beat him you get to play on. Some one created a story for after FFVII.. its fun to try out. You can even save your game and come back to it later!

Here some screen-shots:

I know this has nothing to do with Final Fantasy but I was wondering if any of you guys know anything about this problem I'm having running The Fifth Element PC game under Windows XP.

Basically I get this error message when I load up the game:

The program then closes.

I do not even have SGL.DLL anywhere on my computer so I can't remove it... anyone got any ideas??

If you need to know my graphics card is a Mobility Radeon 7500.
