SOLVED: Please help me installing FF7+Bootleg
« on: 2011-09-13 11:52:08 »
Ive created this new topic to sort out the issue in this previous conversation

crackinglazer:

my mini games are running way to fast, and the frame limiters in aali's driver dont appear to be working, when I start the bike game it flashes up something like vsync appears to be forced on... and it disappears to fast to read the rest, I neglected to read the entire thread, so just point me in the right direction if I've missed the answer

Disable your shaders.

crackinglazer:
you do meen type no where it says "use_shaders =" in the config?
if so that didn't work

UGerstl:
 Need more information for analysis.
I hope you installed the english version of FF7 with Maximum.
Which mods did you install and in which order ?
Are you using the Bootleg installer ?

Please be so kind and change your long posting as i had written to you.

Hit the Modify button of your posting

   Hit the # button
Now you see this [ code ][/code ]   (i have added some spaces)
Put the data of your "ff7_opengl.cfg" file between ][

   Hit the # button again
Now you see this [ code ][/code ]   (i have added some spaces)
Put the data of your "APP.LOG" file between ][

   Hit the Preview button
   Voila, looks better

Edit: I looked at your postings, i would suggest you use the Bootleg installer
without the  "Team Avalanche HR" option. Because your system could
be overloaded with this HighRes mod (especially your graphics card).

   >Klick me<  Bootleg installer
   >Klick me<  Important informations

crackinglazer:
alright I've neatened up the previous post and I'll try the bootleg installer

edit

so i should download all of those mods?

edit

which mod is suppose to fix the framelimiter?

UGerstl:
Hi crackinglazer,

@Vgr: This is a very special case, because crackinglazer seems to know very few about ff7
modding and Windows administration (i have read his other postings).

And if some novice users have the same problems, they are welcome to join this topic.

So at first the topic is only for TWO persons, but that is not a limitation.

This topic will be a long one. (questions, answers, questions, ...)

           Hope all is clear now...

@crackinglazer: First of all: Good topic creation, you learned.

Q: ...my mini games are running way to fast...

A: Since you made this request i was think about it pensively.
What's wrong with your installation ?
The config file seems to be alright.
But as it seems i am not alone, because no one has answered till now.

Then i have read your other postings spread around this forum.
I came to this conclusion: Let's forget the old defect installation and
                                            make a new good one.
I decided that the Bootleg installer will be a very good restart option.

Q: So i should download all of those mods?

A: Copied from this posting >Click me< done by PitBrat:

... In the meantime, even if you choose not to install a mod, make sure that every single
Bootleg supported mod setup file is present. I don't mean every mod from the big list!
Bootleg supported mods are listed in the Bootleg Readme ...

Q: Which mod is suppose to fix the framelimiter?

A: You have not only this "framelimiter" problem, believe me.

Q: So why should you download all these files and use the Bootleg installer ?

A: Because, it's the best and easiest way to install FF7 with the best mods you
can find here and with the fewest problems.
Believe me, you will not regret it.

Let's start.

First of all, you must move/delete your old FF7 installation.
Don't forget to Backup your saves !
You can find them here:

   [FF7 main directory]\save
 or
   C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\[FF7 path]\save

You need to go into folder options and enable show hidden files and folders.

Hint: The registry keys will be overwritten by the Bootleg installer.
So you must nothing change in your registry. :?:

Now comes the heavy download part. Don't give up !

Copied from this posting >Click me< done by PitBrat:

... In the meantime, even if you choose not to install a mod, make sure that every single
Bootleg supported mod setup file is present. I don't mean every mod from the big list!
Bootleg supported mods are listed in the Bootleg Readme ...

The installation
  • Install the english version of Final Fantasy 7 and choose the Maximum installation.

  • Optional: You can now compress your FF7 folder, so the re-installation goes faster
by selecting the "FF7 install image" option in BFE.exe.

Important: Don't move the files into your archive !

  • Important: Read "BFE_Readme.txt" and "Bootleg_Readme.txt".

  • Disable any virus scanning software before running the Bootleg.
Virus alarms are False-Positives. Trust us we don't spread malware.

  • Be sure you are an Administrator or you have changed BFE.exe and Bootleg.exe to run
    as Administrator.

Right click on BFE.exe/Bootleg.exe, choose Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and
check "Run this program as an administrator".

  • If you are running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 or newer is required.

If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, turn UAC off.

BFE.exe is written in Visual Basic 2010.
You will need to install the .NET framework to run BFE.exe.
Use Windows Update to install the necessary .NET framework.

  • Run BFE.exe (GUI for Bootleg) and select what you like.

Hint: If your CPU is not the fastest then don't select the "Team Avalanche HR" option.
You can test it by yourself selecting it. (start FF7 => run taskmgr.exe => check CPU)

  • Hit the big red "Run Bootleg" button.
(Hint: afterwards minimize the GUI to the taskbar)

  • Now the real installer is running.
Sometimes you will be asked about special adjustment's, so be prepared and don't go away.

  • At the end, you have a perfect installation.
    (hopefully, because "work in progress")

Important:
  • If you are using an ATI graphics card or your game graphics look damaged, then edit
the config file "ff7_opengl.cfg" (which can be found in your FF7 main directory) with any
text editor (notepad, ...) and check these lines:

       use_shaders       = no
       compress_textures = no

       Standard FF7 main directory:

          Windows 32 bit: C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII
Windows 64 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII

  • If you are using an NVIDIA graphics card and you have installed the newest driver
use Xion999's fix to enable shaders:

       1) Xion999's 'everything is made of light' fix for NVIDIA cards:

Copy and replace the files [FF7 main directory]\shaders\main.frag
                                                 and [FF7 main directory]\shaders\main.vert
                                                 into [FF7 main directory]\shaders\nolight\

       2) Enable shaders in "ff7_opengl.cfg":

         use_shaders = yes

Waiting for your questions/suggestions ...

@azios: I am searching for it...

Till i found it, you can use this link :

                MediaFire-Folder: http://www.mediafire.com/?g4gpjwzsa0xxa

"ok i am going to keep adding the ones that i cant find for you if you like
it will be in my original post were i asked about them"

Good idea, i will upload the missing files for you.
The list will be updated as soon as possible.

It seems that the files on GameFront are lost (/deleted).
I inform PitBrat about this fatal problem.

"also there this one which i need to sing up for to download  do i really
need it?   Custom HQ FF7 PC Barret battle-field model.rar"

You don't need to sign in, but i upload it also.

             These files are lost (/deleted):
  • AerisWeaponModv0.5-slayersnext.rar
  • FF7Remastered.PrC
  • hq_ending2.avi
  • hq_hybridmoon_vids.zip
  • HQ_opening_credits.zip
  • hq_vids_2.7z
  • HQMBV2 - Classic Buster.rar
  • missing_hq.zip
  • New_opening.7z
  • New_Prelude.zip
  • WallMarket145.zip
  • WeaponModv1.0-slayersnextr.rar
  • WhiteChoco.zip

             I am uploading them...please be patient...upload done.

"yes that one the custom hq barre
even  if we can't find them do we need to have them?"

... In the meantime, even if you choose not to install a mod, make sure that every single
Bootleg supported mod setup file is present. I don't mean every mod from the big list!
Bootleg supported mods are listed in the Bootleg Readme ...

We (PitBrat and i) have the files mirrored on our HD's.
             Nothing is really lost.

Hi azios,

Q: how do i use bfe and bootleg  ?

A: Just double click on "BFE.exe" to run the program.
Do you have read my documentation (see above) ?

Sorry, but can you be more precisely.

Here is a screenshot of a sample "BFE.exe" setup :

Make sure the folder containing bootleg.exe does not have spaces in the path.
This problem is fixed in the upcoming Bootleg 0035 release.

A new install is the safest option.
If you created a Bootleg FF7 image, you can install from that without reinstalling FF7.
Installing Bootleg over mods like Hardcore, Revival or Remastered will result in errors and a potentially unplayable game.

You can use Millenia's installer to change Cloud's swords without ill effect.

I'm releasing Bootleg 0035 today unless something drastic happens.  It has more sword options.

ME AGAIN!!!

yeah I kind of abandoned the whole ff7 mod thing when I realized my computer just wouldn't cut it, but nooooow, I have a shnazzy new computer...
so I've read the thread, and have downloaded all the essential mods (the ones in red right?) except one, the link to aali's ff7_opengl-0.7.11b.zip tells me forbidden, soooooooo... yeah, a little help would be appreciated.

cheers

Edit.

scrap that the link works now but...
I downloaded it and did everything the read me told me to and then ran BFE, but found that when I ran ff7, no cutscenes... no music... then I noticed this in the boot leg read me "All mods must reside in the folder with Bootleg.exe and have the exact filenames from the Supported Mods list", not that I've changed any of the names... but would unzipping the zipped files also cuase ploblems, 'cuase thats what I did...

Edit.

if I'm supposed to be running ff7 through bootloader, when I press play ff7, it tells me "unable to locate selected mode"

Looks like Crackinglazer has sorted his problems out with the latest version of the Bootleg installer.

Marked as solved.
