I don't really see the point myself of having Aeris back into your party after she dies unless someone would create new dialog for her after her death.

Plus if you want to reaplce her with another party member, for example Caith Sith, you'd have two Aeris in your party at some point since you have all your party members at the end of disc 1 (and if you want to make new dialog you can't really use yuffie or vincent as they are not involved in dialog being optional).

the last jenova I think can be a bit much since it uses ultima every 5 turns does it not ?

With those stats I'm thinking it can get at least 5 or 6 of them in before we can kill it.

Also it seems a bit useless since it's definately not a hard boss to start with since all the last jenova does is count own to 5 and ultima over and over.  It's not hard at all to heal in between and I doesn,t have any other moves if memory serves me right.

That's my opinion anyway.

sound like this songs was made for the cello.  I especially like the begning.

However, there are indeed some out of place notes and something doesn,t feel right at some points.  But great job nonetheless.  Definately a good listen.

Troubleshooting / Crash at Submarine Minigame
« on: 2005-11-07 03:51:51 »
I had that problem once before myself.

If I remember correctly, doing alt-enter while in game just before the submarine minigame worked (it should window the game).

Solved Problems / Game crashes on ATI 9600

As emperorsteele said, ff7 is a pretty low ressource game so you shouldn't really run into any issues while running it underclocked.  Reunion's patch might slow you down slightly when there are lots of people on screen but that depends on the rest of your rig.

However, I would reccomend getting a case fan.  It's ridiculously cheap (like 5 bucks) and you can use it once you get your new rig too.  You can never really get too many fans as heat only kills your pc in the long run.  It's also really easy to install, especially since you won't screw it inside your case but rather "aim it" directly at your memory chip on your video card.  I just stuck mine between the video card and another PCI card so the airflow is directed straight under my card.

However that's really your call.

Solved Problems / Game crashes on ATI 9600
« on: 2005-11-04 21:46:05 »
I didn't have any issue with normal windows usage either.  And I did have a gpu fan as well but it seemed to be failing.

But I didn't know my GPU was overhetaing at first because windows itself was stable.  I only got crashes when I solicited my GPU with games which seemed to cause my gpu temperature to rise.

However a test I did pointed me toward the GPU overheating direction which you might want to try.

I got an overclocking utility of some kind for ATI boards that had a stability test (forgot which one) and I severely underclocked my GPU core clock speed and memory speed (by over a 100 mhz each).  Since they were underclocked they generated less heat and were more stable.  Test this for like half an hour.  If it doesn't reboot or crash, taht's good.

After that, test the same utility but with your normal settings (default clock and memory speeds) and see if your system reboots or hangs, and especially how long it takes for it to crash.  Also check out if the utility creates artifacts because that's a sign of overheating.

When my system was undercloked, my system was rock solid but at stock speed I crashed in less than 5 minutes and produced artifacts like crazy.  Drivers didn't change a thing.

I found out my memory chips were overheating using that test.  To fix it I simply used one of the case fans already in my box (I have two) and stuck it near the card.  It still cools the overall system but since it blows fresher air on the card, it doesn't overheat.  I ahven,t had a single crash since and it's been over 6 months.  I definately reccomend trying that.

It's all much simpler than it sounds.

edit : I did a little search.  I used ATI tools to test my card.  You can find it there http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

When you start seeing artifacts every frame, it means your card is overheating.  The utility even has an auto overclock feature.  Since my card was overheating on its own, it severely underclocked my card on its own!  This was the greatest tool in trying to fix my issue.

I'm also pretty sure that if you try other graphic intensive games, your system will hang.  Your problem is just exactly like mine and I was convinced it was a game compatibi.lity or driver issue myself until I tested it further.

This sounds like an overheating issue.

I had the same kind of issues with my 9600 pro.

What I did to fix it is place a case fan betwenn two cars so it vents directly on my video card and that fixed it.  It's worth a try because my computer was doing the exact same thing.

I tried to download the latest version and I got a service unavailable message.  The webpage of your friend also returned the same message.

I suppose that's temporary ?

This issue is covered in the Great FF7 FAQ

That's a copy and paste of the windows support link posted earlier.

Good luck!

sorry.  it is the protect vest.  the spirit charm I was mentionning is an item that enhances spirit defense in the same manner.  forgot the whole name.  it's spirit something.  but yeah protect vest is a good example of what I was saying.  You can only get some of these items from fights.

388
I didn't get to the first Jenova last time I played but I was close to it.  As for the  items, I agree that can make the game more challenging but getting some items would be nice such as the spirit charm thing after the fight with rufus and etc.

For most of these, you can't get them anywhere else so I think they shouldn't be omitted.  As for the tents and stuff like that, I do think it adds to the challenge though.

389
I played Elementor's scene.bin to test it out orginally and really liked it.  However, all the enemies after the first reactor up until the end of his game had a flaw : the dropped items all converted to potions due to a bug in m4v3r's sceneedit that was since fixed (I think).  I was just wondering if that was fixed in this version ?

This works great.  Really nice work.  I've been wanting to make the AA run forever on my radeon!

However I do have a question.  I usually play the game on my tv-out.  This makes the background effect alot less visisble.  But I do see the jaggies from the AA (or lack thereof).  However, my tv-out only supports a max resolution of 1024x768.

So I was wondering if it would be in your future plans to release a version of the patch at standard resolution (so it has all your little fixes, notably the AA one) or at a 1024x768 resolution so it could work on my tv-out.  This option would be even more appealing if you ever find a way to get some kind of filtering going for the backgrounds.  Whatever the answer may be, keep up the good work!

Small update on my website (v1.5a) with a couple of fixes;

-Fixed looping (didn't read setting from INI correctly)
-Adding files doesn't put the path in the main list, but (correctly) in the search paths
-Fixed potential crash in custom looping code
-Log saved to disk on exit

Errors:

"cooperative level error" is a DirectSound error. Try reconfiguring the DS output plugin with different options, or use OUT_WAVE instead, which is what I do.

Problems with ramps - if somebody could email me a savegame as close as possible to the event which triggers it that would be helpful. Since the new version (should) save its log to disk on exit (provided you don't kill it from Task Manager) any logs would be helpful too.

Ficelib versions - should be completely irrelevant now since v1.5 doesn't require or use FICEDULA.DLL - you don't need any version present.

Just sent you a save before we meet the president for the first time.  Hope it can be of some help.

Aha!  I managed to get it to work.  Had to disable my windows midi volume though cause the programme wouldn't do it.

Erm, perhaps this is a dumb question, but where do I get the plugin for playing MP3s?  I only have the in_psf.dll for playing the playstation music.  Do I need to download and install winamp and use a plugin from that?

I didn't have it either.  I downloaded winamp 2.95 and took it from there.  It also helped me choose which files to put where anyway.

Also the ramps option did give me some trouble as well.

Without it it works great.  Thanks for the great update.  Fixed all the issues I was having with it!

Actually, having played Elementor's patch up until Cloud's flashback I think that his patch was just right.  He did change hitpoints and damage but that didn't necessarilly make the fights longer, maybe one or two rounds longer for normal enemies.  Bosses were longer but alot more challenging.

I'd try and reach him and use the values he had so far if he's okay with it.

I know I also would have liked a change in some elemental resistance in monsters starting from the world map with a few exceptions such as the sewer monster in midgar which actually ends up hitting himself for about 80% of the damage so we should make him water immune so he'd be resistan to his own attacks.  I also suggested giving him a ridiculously low amount of hp but having him absorb his own water damage so you'd actually need to dispatch him in only one turn forcing the player to use timing and strategy while defeating him.

jut my two cents.

Hey Elentor, is this going to be pursued further ?

I'll most likely get some more free time to test further this weekend.

woah.  how the hell did you manage that ?

edit : tested it on my radeon.  works great just like your patch.  Great job on both accounts I must say.

Just sent it.  Have fun.

edit : huh there seems to be a somewhat big problem.  The latest version seems to be only 4k when I download it.  It most obviously, crashes he game.

edit2: while I'm at it I was thinking something.  When I fought Aps, he damaged himsel much more than I ever did.  Since M4v3er's tool can easily edit elementals wouldn't it be nice to lower his actual HP a whole lot but make him immune to water attacks (hence his own) ?  Another way to go at it would be give him a ridiculously low amount of HP but make him absorb his water damage to see if the party can inflict enough damage in one turn before he could fully heal himself.  The side the wave is coming from could become an issue with this one however.  Just a thought.

I just finished Midgar.  As for my feedback Reno was really really hard.  He was most definately the hardest boss to date in the game.  Not impossible though so it's all good.

As for the Shinra HQ, the enemies inside weren't as hard as the one climbing the sector 7 tower if you ask me.  The specimen room boss was pretty hard too, as was Rufus since you're all alone.  The elevator boss with your alternate party howerver (Aeris, Barret and Red) was really easy, just longer than usual.  I'd sugget making it harder.

As for the highway boss, he was just right.

Those ar my two cents so far.

More to come as I go along.

PS: You most likely already know this but the potion bug is probably linked to M4v3er's tool since the enemies you manually hexidted (aka Guard Scorpion) left their original items (aka Gatling Gun).

Lookin forward to what's comin' next!
