Bootleg Questions / Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg
« on: 2013-01-18 02:31:31 »
Ok, that was interesting. It worked when I tested it with the 1.51.12 ini's. As soon as I replaced them, same problem occurred. Anyone have a confirmed working copy of the 1.51.13 FF7Music.ini? What could cause this?

EDIT: In all honesty, at this point I'm happy playing without the OCRemix, although that was one of the major things I was looking forward to. I'm just happy I know I can get it working with the remastered files if we can't ultimately fix this issue.

EDIT 2: I'm going to be out of town until Sunday, I'll keep you posted as best as I can from my laptop.

If you install ff7music over an already modified game, then you'll lose the additional soundtrack options.
You should preserve the 3 Bootleg ff7music.ini files located in 3 folders within the game folder.

ff7music_install_15112.exe                       Covarr          FinalFanTim tracks looped as OGG & PSF  Qhimm FILE

Excuse my ignorance, but that last sentence is a complete alien language to me. I only see FF7MUSIC.ini (located both in the fidecula folder and in \FF7\FF7Music), as well as plugin.ini in the plugins folder.

So I only count two separate .ini files. And where should I "preserve them"? I am assuming this means just creating a random throwaway folder that will save them from being overwritten?

I'm really sorry that I don't understand this better, I know how frustrating it can be to have to explain things over and over. I do appreciate everyone's patience.

My simple mind just thinks I should take the mp3, FF7_PSF, and Custom_Music folders out, run 1.51.12, and then place them back in?

Yes, install the game and then run Bootleg. Running Bootleg without the game installed will not work.

Thank you for your prompt reply, but I feel you misunderstand me my friend. The game - as I have said before - it is running perfectly except for battle and ambient music. It would be quite hard to accomplish this without the game installed  ;)

I was asking if I should re-install the game before running 1.51.12, or if it would suffice to download 1.51.12 and try to run the game as is. Upon searching, I have not found a valid link for 1.51.12 - could anyone provide one? I would greatly appreciate it.

There is a good chance the disconnecting from the internet will cause ff7music 1.51.13 to fail.
Use ff7music 1.51.12 instead.  It has far fewer bugs and doesn't require an internet connection.

Thank you for your reply PitBrat. I will try this immediately. I am assuming that this should be done on a fresh install of ff7, not just downloaded and run?

Computer voodoo would be nice. I actually played last night, and when I started up the game I had no music. The sound effects and FMV's could be heard. So, I reboot my computer and it un-voodoo'd itself. I'm not a computer guru, but I've used Bootleg long enough to never have that happen before. I can't explain why the reboot gave me back the music. Now, I reboot my computer every time before I start the game.

Could the fact I completely disconnect my internet while doing the install cause 1.51.13 to fail? The installation process went the exact same this time. I'm fairly certain that I am following all of the steps properly - any ideas? Any logs or screens I could post that would help? Sorry to be such a bother, I'm not usually so terrible at these things.

The only reason I mention disconnecting from the internet is that it's the only extra precaution I take that isn't listed in the section about turning off anti-virus software. I turn off windows firewall as well as AVG.

Edit: Here's some stuff and things.

All I can think is that somehow, the music files aren't in the right folder because I get the error message and have to install the ff7music.exe outside of the bootloader. Can any of you take a look at these pictures and tell me if something seems out of place to you - or let me know which screens you would require to deduce this problem?

Thank you for your response EQ2Alyza.

I found and executed the ff7music, and followed the steps of the tutorial from there. Still, no sound.

As an impatient child, I just took the route of uninstalling/deleting everything (save for bootleg040 and Tifa's bootleg files), and am in the process of doing everything again. I'm not sure where I went wrong - I'm hoping it's just some computer voodoo. I'll let you know how I get on.

Also, every file I got was a link from this exact thread/tutorial.

Edit: I again want to reiterate that everything else worked perfectly fine, and there was movie and menu sound - just no battle sound or soundtrack in the background.

Thank you to everyone who worked on this. I really appreciate all the time and effort. That being said, I have failed to install these mods properly. My problems are thus, and in the order they occurred:

1. The "Graphics Tab" never came up and asked me "enable the Aali's Custom Graphics Driver". Obviously, this did not allow me to check the proper sound tab as well.

2. I got an error message during the music installation that read:

3. FF7Music 1.51.13 Setup
    Installer corrupted: invalid opcode

4. The "Installing FF7 Music" never happened as well.

All of these things occurred in the Guides' step 9. Other than having no music (in or outside of battle) everything runs perfectly
smooth. When I click on "ff7music_install_15113.exe" I get the error code I mentioned in 3. I read on the forums that there are some known problems with 15113, and the fix is to run 15112. Am I correct in assuming this? If so, where can I find 15112?

I feel it is worth mentioning I installed this in D:\ not C:\, because all of the recommended paths are in C:\ - however I don't see this being a problem if I pathed everything correctly.

Thanks in advanced, this is a great community and I'm glad I found it.

EDIT: Didn't think to include my music.log, it may help...

May I suggest leaving it at the top so people that don't read it "properly" will still have a chance to see the link?

Cheers.

Okay well I'll tell everyone that I know that this mod is super easy to use and runs flawlessly for me so far. Should you ever take to accepting donations or anything I would love to support the work you do.

My 2 cents on "donations" (pun intended) is that although you didn't create the content - you arranged it and made it readily available. It's essentially what modern musicians do, and a host of them make a killing. You shouldn't feel obligated to take the high road, we all have bills to pay and you put time into this. So thank you.

Thank you very much for the help. I think I have it working now, my problem was not checking the NEW version in installation. Stupid error on my part. If I have any further problems I will let you know.

Is there any way we can support this project (monetarily or otherwise) for a job well done?

Okay, so I'm a super n00b when it comes to modding anything. I have the installer downloaded, and (from what I understand) the NEW FF7 - recently purchased from SE. I don't understand from the installer "README" whether I am supposed to install the files in the "/data/music ogg" folder, or just the "Program files86/square enix/ffVII" folder. I don't wanna ruin the game I just bought and want to make sure I am doing this right. I tried reading the read me but I feel unsure. Sorry to bother you guys!

HALP!
