Title: [FF8-PC/Steam] Tonberry Master List - FF8 Mods Progress
Post by: Mcindus on 2016-12-24 08:11:45
Tonberry Mods Master List

This is a post devoted to the current progress of completely modding FF8's graphics with Tonberry Mods!
This is what's currently out there, what we're currently working on, and what needs to get done.

We hope this inspires other modders to get involved in FF8!
For a very thorough guide on how to make your own FF8 mods using Tonberry, FOLLOW THIS LINK! (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17263.msg245575#msg245575)

For those that need it: Here's Tonberry: Enhanced (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15945.0)

Special Thanks:
Omzy, Shunsq, JeMaCheHi, Mavirick, sl1982, FatedCourage, Mortael, Devina, Yagami Light, Zeeber, Crestian, Maki, DLPB, Rufoos, and Qualcuno.

Many of these mods are included in the:
Lunatic Pandora Mod Installer (http://mcindusmods.pcriot.com/)

(for a small donation to the modding community)

Current Completed Mods
================

SeeD Reborn (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15320.0) by MCINDUS
Title Screen, Game Menus, Character/GF Avatars, Text, Icons, Magazines, Controller Buttons
To be done:
Intro Sequence*, Minor Tutorial Screens - "Theme Packs"

Controller Buttons (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15905.0) by MCINDUS (SeeD Reborn Dependent)
Replaces the B1, B2, B3, etc. In-Game Controller buttons with PSX/Xbox360 buttons.

HorizonPack (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15859.0) by MCINDUS
World Terrain, World Maps, Towns/Cities, Roads, Sky, World Effects, World Objects, Lunatic Pandora, Vehicles
Balamb Vehicle and Ragnarok Replacement (Crestian)

To be done:
Cities/Towns would look great if someone did some custom re-creations...

Project Eden (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15292.0) by Omzy
Field Backgrounds
To be done:
Fixes to certain textures that produce "black bars" and some tranparencies.  Also needs some hash fixes. [Project AngelWing's hashmap is better]

Project Angelwing (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17541.0) by FatedCourage
Gigapixel (or Waifu) Upscaled Field Backgrounds - has more 'smoothing' and less noise than Eden.  Choose one or the other, but not both.
I suggest using AngelWing's hashmap and a mix of both mods files for optimal viewing.
Anyone who wants to try their hand at making custom backgrounds should contact myself or FatedCourage

BattleField Pack (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16434.0) 1/3 Upscaled by MCINDUS, 2/3 Waifu2x'd by FatedCourage
Battlefield Backgrounds (Complete)
Full Replacements include - Balamb Plains, Green Forest (MCINDUS) Training Center (Zeeber), Comm Tower 2F (Shunsq)
To be done:
The Waifu upscales are great for many areas, but for outdoors areas, the 'lines' it creates are bad.  We need some help making these better.
Some animations don't currently work.
Also, we need help with the full replacements!  If you are an artist, please contribute!

Tripod (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15301.0) by MCINDUS
Triple Triad Card Game - Cards, Game Text, Icons, Game Board, Backgrounds, Sprite Animations
To be done:
Fix for 'You Lose' transparency, Implement better borders, Finish foreign versions

Rebirth Flame (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16022.0) by FatedCourage, Magochocobo, Devina, Mortael, Yagami Light, Crestian
Player Characters - Mago or Devina replacements with Weapons, SeeD Uniforms, Low/High Poly, Alternate Versions, etc.
To be done:
Minor character fixes

Project Hellfire (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17320.0) by MCINDUS
GF Summons (Complete) - Replacements and Upscales
Replacements Include - Ifrit, Shiva, Quezacotl, Brothers, Siren, Leviathan, Carbuncle, Cactuar
To be done:
Some Waifu2x upscaled lines look better than the current mods, so the plan is to combine some parts of future Waifu upscales with the current ones.

Apocalypse (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16549.0) by FatedCourage
All Bosses given a meticulous Waifu2x treatment
To be done:
Full Boss -replacement- textures would be nice!!!  If every artist out there did one each, we would have a pack in no time!

Lunar Cry (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15977.0) by MCINDUS
All Enemies Upscaled (Complete)
To be done:
Hashing fixes and custom enemy textures!  Anyone want to try their hand?

====================
Additional Mods (HIGHLY RECCOMENDED)

Non-Tonberry dependent, but work incredibly well along with it! Some mods were created with these in mind.

FF8 UV Fix Patcher (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16327.msg252902#msg252902) by Maki (Easy Patch by MCINDUS)
This mod fixes the bad UV's in the main overworld (WORKS BEST WITH HORIZONPACK)

FF8 GeDoSaTo Config (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15988.0) by MCINDUS
Ultra Resolutions (forced downsampling), Anti-Aliasing, AO, DoF, and Post Processing injection!  It even has a version of SweetFX you can use with Tonberry!
If you enable GeDoSaTo, you no longer have to turn off the Steam Overlay!

______________________________
Current Mods in Progress:

Magic Upscale (Waifu2x) by MCINDUS and FatedCourage
Attack, Heal/Buff, Status Effect Magics; Magic effects
To be done:
Upscaling and hashing/hash fixes underway.

NPC Upscale by MCINDUS, FatedCourage, and ?
NPC Upscales
To be done:
NPCs mostly upscaled.  This is proving to be a hashing beast.  Also missing a few NPCs currently.  Any help would be lovely!

GF Animations by MCINDUS
TBD - This is a HUGE project - and may have issues with animations.
Only two or three test animation sets have been worked on.

Mods We Need!!

Limit Breaks

Nothing currently completed.

TBD - This is a HUGE project (All enemy and Player damage effects)
Nothing currently completed.

====================
All Current Hashmaps (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15945.msg223951#msg223951)

If you see anything up there that you'd like to help out with, please comment below!
Also - feel free to make your own versions of the current mods!  The mods that exist can share hashmaps, so you just need to replace the textures!!

Nice McIndus! I'm looking forward for a future installer, or better a complete SE future remake . I believe nothing is impossible for SE anymore, since they are remaking and have already remade so many titles. But as far as the modding community is concerned, I'm definitely looking forward for an installer someday... :)

Made an account just for this thread to express my thanks for putting all the graphical mods in one place, so thank you!  8)

Hopefully I'll be able to lend my hand at modding one of these days, starting with a full hi-quality reimagined soundtrack.

Would love to see an installer, like 7th heaven.
Be waiting for that until Ill give FFVIII another go.

I can't do something as involved as 7th heaven :(  I don't know who to ask for help in that regard, honestly.

I would love to be able to give people the option to enable only the mods they want, the languages they want, and the 'versions' of the mods (like which controller icons to use, font options, etc.)
But that seems to be a long way off.

First, I'm only going to be able to create an installer that drops files and folders into (hopefully) the correct locations for the users.  You will still have to update each mod individually whenever a new one comes out... but at least you'll be able to install everything in one go with my first attempt.  Sadly, it might be a few months out, as I have been hired as an Environmental/Texture Artist and 3d World Builder for an upcoming MMORPG.

Would love to have more helping hands on these projects. It can get tiring between just Mcindus and I. So if you ever want to jump in and help out, be our guest. :D

I believe Mcindus and I have only gotten hashes in Balamb Garden. Mcindus might've gotten more from other areas, but I can't remember. :P Getting every hash has proven to be a big challenge. So we'd appreciate the help. :) We might go with an objmap and hashmap combination, but that remains to be seen.

Honestly, I believe once we have all objmaps for the enemies, gfs, characters, and npcs that we won't have any more collisions and won't need the hashmaps.

I just logged in today because I've rediscovered my Final Fantasy addiction. So FFVIII was my favorite game back in the day ( I'd only played the first two up till then), but it wasn't until a week and a half ago that I found out you can play these games on PC now. I know of the various remasters so I've started playing the games backwards from 15 on down. I was never a console person. I played FF mostly and then left the damn thing alone until the dust snuggled into every nook and cranny.

But not only did I rediscover the games for my personal nostalgic enjoyment, I discovered you guys. And while I'm not a stranger to modding thanks to the Mass Effect Trilogy, what you guys have managed to pull out of VIII is nothing short of astonishing. I mean yes it's not a XV, but it very well is like playing a new game since, as there isn't much talking going on, the visuals are what stand out! Keep up the great work guys! Now if only we could get some backgrounds into IX....just kidding! ;D .......kinda lol

Quick question, Mcindus. Is there a way to edit the menu color in FF8?

Have you considered making a Discord for the modding community to collaborate in?

It's actually quite easy to edit the menu gradient in any art/painting program.  First, you need SeeDReborn - then you can open the iconfl00_14.png and iconfl01_14.png images and edit the menu gradient color.  I would recommend 'colorizing' the gradients using the 'hue' settings in photoshop.  Just make sure you use the exact same color edits in both files.

Having a discord would be awesome, but I'm not sure how active it would actually be... lol.

Thank you! I remember us talking about this about 3 or 4 years ago, but time and age =/

I have a couple other questions if you don't mind.Is it possible to make the dialogue boxes transparent in game? Also, could we change the background black image of the menu?

I'd join the discord if you made it! Mostly because I would like to LEARN about how to edit the game. Thank you for the help as always!

Here's how it came out: http://imgur.com/a/OMWMP

No, it relies on the directx9 renderer from the Steam version.

My original version is useless then :(

Aali's driver doesn't allow for any mod but SeeD -- so kind of.  Until there is a way to convert the old PC version to the new PC version (which i doubt will ever happen), there will be no way to use the mods on the 'old' version of FF8.

I don't know if the UV fix will work with any other languages other than English.  I've asked maki for the Hext codes, because every language has different memory locations... you should post a comment on his UV patcher thread.

Hi! I just registered to say that your work is awesome I saw your work via youtube!!
Well, that isn't all. I have a doubt about the LunarCry, do i have to rename ''en'' to my language (In my case es or sp i guess) or it will work anyways? I installed Lunatic pandora (The exe that does all the work for you) but my version of steam has Spanish preselected and it didnt work properly, so...  well I decided to install the mods on my own :3! Thankyou, and sorry if this isn't the proper thread to post this!
In other, and if this isnt buzzing too much >-<!! I would like to know if there is some new mods about to be released o-o so that I can wait to play FF8 (even tought am dying to play ;-; it)
Thankyou another time and byeby!!!

Great collection of mods and I did purchase the Pandora mod pack. Playing through the game when I came across the part where squall is carrying Rinoa on the train tracks to Esthar their bodies disappear behind a block whenever they pass a light pole.  I did a fresh install leaving out Project Eden and Rebirth Flame

I thought by chance that might fix what I saw plus some other odd glitches or blimps/misplaced lines in the background.  I think using Edens textures with Angelwings hashmaps has some hiccups.  Unfortunately, I didn't save anywhere around the train tracks so I'll have to track down a save at that point to see if this fixes it.  I also notice that the characters blink their eyes with the original textures.  I actually would like a character mod that upscales the current pixels much like Angelwings backgrounds.  The characters are a little too plastic in Rebirth Flame if you know what I mean.

Otherwise great set of mods!  I look forward to more and hopefully a Final Fantasy VIII remake before I die.  One can hope.

FF8_Launcher.EXE deos not exsist

Attempting to load by Process Name (FF8_EN.EXE)...
Still Wating... click "PLAY!"

I have no play button to click how ever and I cannot seem to get any further then this.  Any help?

If you installed it and it created a duplicate folder FINAL FANTASY VIII/FINAL FANTASY VIII/ - then make sure you dump the contents of the duplicate folder into the main FINAL FANTASY VIII/ folder.  It looks like that might be your issue, jubs.  If this doesn't solve the problem, please email me at [email protected] so that we can resolve your issues :)

Hi Mcindus, thanks again for the mods. But I am not able to download the pandora installer. I've already used up all 3 tries. :( All those tries failed. It seems the s3 bucket link is only available for 10mins. After 10mins the s3 links would be dead and my on-going downloads just fails.

Is there other ways of buying the installer. I don't mind buying it again as long as the expiration is not 5-10mins (Impossible to download 2gb with my measly 20mbps internet)

Hi, I am playing this game again with this mods. I downloaded Tonberry Enhanced2.04, Apocalypse 1.2, HorizonPack v3.0, LunarCry_v1.5, Project_Eden_v1.0, SeeDReborn v3.5, Tripod v1.1, Upscaled, FF8_ControllerButtons_Xbox360, Roses and Wines. Followed the steps to install it from a video in youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5lA7Drxpi4). Disable Steam Overlay but the game won't start. I tried installing them one by one starting from wines and roses. It worked fine and the music are great. But when I installed Tonberry Enhanced 2.04 the game wont start. I need help. Thanks

You might need to download the directx9 june2010 end user runtimes.  Try doing a search for 'mcindus mods guide ff8 steam' on google, and in that guide, I provide a link to the download in the 'troubleshooting' section.  You also might need to update your microsoft vc++ redistributable files, but I would try the directx9 fix first.

Hi Mcindus

First of all thanks for the Lunatic Pandora Installer, it's really great to have all the best mods in one single package :-) I just have some questions regarding the installation, after donating I extracted the first Installer in my FFVIII steam path which is located in S:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII, this went without issues however once I run the LP Installer.exe that is created inside the folder the files get installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VIII which is a path that is created during the installation.

If I try to run the FF8_Ultra_Launcher from here it obviously fails indicating that can't find the FF8_Launcher.exe so what I have done is just copy/paste all the files crated by the LP installer to my Steam folder in S: Drive, the mods have been working so far after this but I'm not sure if by moving the files I would have issues later.

I've checked your LP Troubleshooting in your Steam guide and it says that LP must be installed in the parent FF folder however I'm not sure if you refer to the first installer that is unzipped or the second one that is the proper .exe that install the Mods, is there a way to change the path during the "second" installation of your pack? or is correct to just move the files to the correct drive where steam is installed in my case.

In any case thanks for all the great Mods!

If you copy/pasted all of the contents from the FINAL FANTASY VIII/ folder that it created on your C: drive and moved it all to the parent drive on your S: drive, then the mods should all work the same way!

Hi Mcindus,

Thanks, so far no problems after copy-paste the folder created in C: so I guess it worked fine.

Hey Gang!
I had a quick question but don't know if this is where to post it but it involves the mods. For some reason when the mods are active, I am unable to use magic. Technically, I can use magic, but the quantity of magic never goes down, ostensibly giving me infinite magic which I really don't want because I'd rather not make the game any easier than it already is (at least the steam version seems to be much easier than I remember the PS1 version to be). This error also makes me unable to use double or triple spells, as it will only cast once instead of twice or three times. Is this a common glitch or am I just lucky? Is there a way around it if it is known? I used the pack for Lunatic Pandora instead of doing it manually if that helps. I also have Rose and Wine enabled if that is useful information as well. Thanks for the help and I appreciate all the work that's been done! From what  have experienced, it's been pretty incredible!

I wanted to add a discovery of sorts. I don't know why I attempted it but I was curious enough o dig into the files in HL_Files/DLL_in and opened Magic.dll. I didn't change anything but I was curious if removing this file from the folder will fix the magic issue, and for now it did! I am surprised and still don't know how or why it fixed it (at least as of right now, I'm sure I'll find out soon if it was a permanent fix) and I also don't know if I changed something that will domino into future problems later. Just wanted to add that to my previous comment and see if I should undo what I did and take a different approach that doesn't involve removing files or if this should be the best way to resolve my issue. Please let me know if there is any further details that may be needed and I will be happy to help.

Sometimes, it can get caught up in the install the first time.  For some reason, it doesn't let you change the drive letter once it's tried to install it anywhere else.

EASY FIX THOUGH!  All you have to do is drag/drop the files from the FINAL FANTASY VIII/ folder it creates and move them into your correct parent /FINAL FANTASY VIII/ folder!

Hello Mcindus,
I purchased your mod pack and I have to say I am having a blast with it.  Thanks for all the hard work you and everyone involved.   You guys truly made my re-play through that much more enjoyable.  Everything is pretty much working except for one thing: the HP limit is not breaking.  I've seen multiple forums and solutions but none have been successful.  I saw you recently created a new hext file (or whatever its called, i'm not too savy with this stuff); whatever was made to replace the .dll files.  Anyway, I still have my HP limit still set at 9999 (i tried leveling, messing with the HP+%).  I hope this is the correct place to post this.

Although this isn't exactly game breaking, I would love to have this working, especially towards end-game of my "omega extreme" run.  Looking forward to your response.  Let me know if I need to provide anything.

Thanks again!

I just installed most of the mods separately myself and am loving them all with pure happiness, I only did not install the Tri mod. Everything else was fine. Tri's mod warns of glitches with others & the creator is working on them still.   That one you installed I avoided because of the same reason, glitches still being addressed, but I wish you luck, as me I'll stick with the stuff that's been most functional.

I have installed a cracked ff8 steam version and installed the mod properly but it is not working.

I can't access steam cuz the game is cracked ( Inlaw's crack). So no disable overlay.

What should I do?

Hello MCINDUS!

A month or so ago I picked up the lunatic pandora mod pack! Awesome btw.

Just wondering, if I want the most up-to-date experience which mods should I grab on top of that to update? I've updated to SeeDReborn v4.1, Project AngelWing v2.0 and HorizonPack: Remastered v1.0.

Also using FF8 GeDoSaTo Config v2.3. Which brings me to another question. When loading FF8 do I launch GeDoSaToTool.exe (As Admin) then launch FF8_Ultra_Launcher.exe ? (This is how I have been doing it anyway).

Thank you so much for your work!

Hey Mcindus,

Great to see an awesome job like the Lunatic Pandora project available. I donated to the cause, and am having a hard time getting things to work. After install and loading, I don't appear to have any of the mods working, and i'm getting 11 errors which state: "Line 2-12 (FF8_UVInject_EN.txt): Could not write to memory."

However I do get;
Damage.dll was loaded successfully.
Hard.dll was loaded successfully.
HP.dll was loaded successfully.
Magic.dll was loaded successfully.
Publish.dll was loaded successfully.

Would love some insight, was also wondering if there is an install video?

Thanks for the hardwork.

Hello everyone

As you know, FFVIII remastered which was released a few days ago is not that beautiful. I would like to know if Lunatic Pandora package (i'm going to buy it to help the modders) is usable with FFVIII remastered. What's more i'd like to know exactly how to change the language of lunatic pandora mod into french (I'm french).

Thank you in advance and thanks to the modders for helping us make games look better.

At this present moment  the answer is no, but the best people are working on making the brilliant mods we have compatible, but its gonna take time.

Thanks in advance

Hi I just bought the installer as I wanted to support the modders but while installing it I noticed that the versions of every mod are old and not updated to the current versions, so now I have to go and manually install them all so it feels kinda not right to sell the installer 2 years out of date, I may as well of installed them manual as I have to do with updating them all

The only mods that have been updated from LP are SeeD Reborn and HorizonPack, and those are both 'non-vanilla' mods, which are basically optional custom texture packs from me.  Lunatic Pandora v2.0 will have those mods, as well as an NPC pack, Magics, GF effects, Battle fx, and Project Angelwing Gigapixel (instead of Project Eden), but that collection isn't even complete as of right now.
You shouldn't need to update the other mods in the collection, which include everything on the first page, as well as a few gameplay modifications and the UV patch.  As a side-note, I included Project Eden with LP v1.0 because it had less glitches and better cutouts than Project Angelwing at the time, but my plan was always to upgrade LP v2.0 with Project Angelwing Gigapixel when it comes out (maybe this weekend???).  Also, I just finished the last SeeDReborn at the end of May, and I spent my time after that finishing the new HorizonPack, which has only been available since September.

Basically what I'm saying, is that i'm working on it! And Diligently!  I've released two mods since May, and those are the only things making the mod 'out of date' - but they are also not Vanilla textures and my own custom work, so I will be making them optional mods in LP v2.0 -- also, I would hold off on updating to Project Angelwing until the newer one comes out in the next few days.

I DID also bought it and I don't think it is a real purchase, I see it as a symbolic purchase for those who work hard on this project. Of course i got the same issues and I posted about this, but am not complaining because i understand it's just a matter of time and I can wait for this, if you want to purchase a comercial remake of a game go buy FF8 remake on steam. Sorry for the comment, but i really hate self-centeredness and that stuff.

I must report that archives rar of SeedReborn italian 2.04, Project Eden, Project Angelwind Italian 3.0. Rebirth Flame, Horizonpack, Battlefieldpack, all of FF8 2013 version, are all broken when I try to unpack them after the download. Maybe the  source files are broken. There's a problem with my version of WinRar 3.60?  But it's strange because other archives work properly. Please, I am an italian fan that wants play FF8 at best. If there are other download links, show me.

Installed Lunatic Pandora and it won't start and now neither will the game (without LP). First there were MSVCR100.DLL problems then when i installed the redists (broken links on steam page) it still didnt work so i copied all the DLLs to the FF8 directory... Now I get an error 0xc000007b the application was unable to start correctly.

Thanks for all your hard work.
