Hi there guys,

I was wondering if there was a way to run modded and unmodded side by side.  Ideally I'd like my Steam copy to be unmodded, but have a separate folder/exe with Mods running.  They don't have to share the save games (but that would be a bonus)

That's from the EU version of the store:Guess I don't have to decide whether to buy it or not.

Why the hell would they not sell it in Poland? Squeenix are just being spanners now...

3
They are releasing it again only because of Windows 7 and compatibility issues and to make money.  Simple.

They would get charged by Microsoft to release it on Windows 8 as part of their Metro-appstore too, so to them its now or never to milk the platform.

General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy Versus 13 Cancelled
« on: 2012-07-22 22:13:05 »
Final Fantasys are all different flavours for the same audience.  Some people like chocolate chip, some pistachio.  But at the end of the day, Ice cream is a childs food and we're all growing old.  A taste of it is good for some refreshment, but no-longer do you crave for ice-cream in the heat - now we reach for cocktails and beers.

This is true with final fantasy - I personally love every final fantasy between 6 to 12 (excluding XI) with fond appreciation for the different experiences they gave me.   I've seen thier gimmicks and even tasted them, but now, I'm too old for cheap tricks to entice me.  When Final Fantasy XIII came out, I changed the name of a bunch of elements and came up with the intro storyline for Final Fantasy 7, all the crazy was just an attempt to hide the fact they were trying to reignite the Final Fantasy 7 flame.  They failed, in part because 'the crazy' was just that, and partly because the resultant product was a breath of what it was first planned to be (The story was just off-cuts of the original and didn't even fit together right for me).

The fact that more and more things from Square show that their dreams of recreating a great game are only hindered by the fact they underestimate how much effort it requires - and 13 was just too much for them.  In thier effort to do new interesting things, they do silly and thoughtless things, like making a game in English just was foreign as if it were written in Japanese.

Final Fantasy VII on the other hand isn't there to feed the dreams of the designers, it is there to line the pockets of the business.  So Final Fantasy XIII Versus being cancelled must be hurting the business.  I very much doubt it will be cancelled completely.   Worst case - they'll reuse everything and change the story and make a non-final fantasy out of it.

What doesn't sit right with me is in regard to the duality of Square - The dreamers release over-budget games that are a let down because their purse-strings are strangling them.  But the business side still release substandard money-makers like FF-VII PC.  So why NOT release a half-arsed Versus 13?  The cost of making it is alot, marketing could double that, but I very much doubt that selling it would get less back than the marketing costs.  The cancellation doesn't fit either duality - that confuses me.

My theory to justify this - Versus was cancelled because they fear the backlash from releasing a substandard game after all the expectations we have for it, knowing it could be the final nail in the coffin got Square. I think someone who is very powerful in Square has overturned the project, in a hope they can resurrect the company to its former glory.  Now I don't think for a second this has anything to do with a ressurection of old franchises - rather a step away.   Someone has come forward with a new story, a new plan for game that will be good enough to potentially fuel a resurgence in Squeenix fans, a new Final Fantasy, with an original format, somethign that appeases the money spinners and the creative minds.

Ooooh, does anyone have the otehr game to test this out?    Interested I am :)

Purism is insanity. It can lead to preferring an inferior product for reasons of nostalgia alone...

Purism is exactly that, loving an original concept because of the purity of the memories you recall with it.

One thing we all want, is a good completed HD mod for FFVII complete that doesn't otherwise tamper with that nostalgia, but no offense to the modding community here but that is not going to happen soon, the logistics are too much for any size of fan project.  Therefor, rather than getting nostalgic with patchy improvements that are open to criticism from individuals with different tastes/memories, a 100% consistent lower quality original can be much better for some people to become immersed in the world they want again - hence the existence of the purists you look down upon.

If Square truly cared for their fans rather than generating quick cashflow they could support and engage the community more rather than milking it, maybe put some of the profits from the re-release into helping to organize and bring support to modding efforts.  Just think at what a devoted and loyal fanbase can do for a company when they are embraced, Minecraft, Steam and League of Legends are HUGELY creative, and supportive (and we throw money at them too).

The sooner Square learn this, and stop trying to follow the EA and Blizzard/Activision demons the better - for purists, for modders, for the franchise and the company.

It still looks nothing like FF13 which is what people are going to expect when they see "HD" rerelease.

Nono, At very best, we can expect 60fps animations and 'reoptimised' characters (IE/ Original models rather than ones that were poly-reduced for PS2 optimisation) - This would exceed expectations for everyone.

At very least we will simply get 1080p rendering (which lets face it, makes a ton of improvement on even FF8 PSX emulation on PC, so on PS2 FFX characters will be fantastic)

Frankly, I don't care if it doesn't look like FF13, I'm happy that I get to play it upscaled as the models are held back by the standard resolution it was designed for, not the other way around like FF7 and 8 (Dare I say FF9 might look better HD upscaled too).

Now without jokes, hope they port FFIX and X.

FFIX is a must for porting, and if they don't release FFX HD on PC i'll pretend to get very angry about it.

Releases / Re: [REL] Menu Overhaul Project
« on: 2012-07-04 21:54:59 »
You haven't read the installer or the translation thread.  There is an option to allow that.  Appropriately named "for fanboys"

Hehe cheers, sorry about not reading thoroughly, I tend to 'skim' alot, and I have the attention of a knat.  You however have the patience of a saint so I applaud and thank you :)

Also - Fanboy, Its funny because its true *derpface*

How will this affect modding?  Do you forsee huge rewrites or will they hopefully slip over the top like a nice Silk Dress? *zomg see what I did thar?*

Hi there,

Going to look at installing this but is there any way to 'pick and choose' things from the translation to include/exclude?    I'm really not fond of some names like Marlene, Choco Bill, Reno, Teioh, Moogle/Mog, Nibel/Mideel, etc being changed...  It would really grate on me enough to avoid installing it.

I would have expected changes such as Aerith and Shin-Ra, both are commonly accepted mis-translations - but alot of the other ones are just too different to what they were in English.

With Bootleg coming out in 48 hours or so, will this maybe come hand in hand with Menu Redux M05b?

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLEPOST - bah, this place is not newbie friendly lol ^_^ (criticism not hate!!)
I'm having a very hard time figuring out what mods are in what pack and whether or not things are even released or not, and I get lost just as often as I manage to find something interesting :(

I'm going to have to get some more practice in at this whole modding thing before I'm ever ready to sit down and play!

I was reading though a guide on how to install mods and it basically got me to install FFRemix before anything else.  Can I now install bootleg over the top?

Check out The Big List of FF7 Mods.

You might also find The Bootleg Configurator useful.
I'm interested to know if it works on the Asian version of the game.

Although the version I play is Asia-Pacific Edition by EA Classics, it is still actually in English - Whaddya know...  :-o

Thank you for the mod list, I'll have a poke around that an add to the list I am making.  Is there a way to copy some elements from one mod and only use those?

I wont be able to use Bootleg Configurator because it requires the default path and not a custom one.  I cannot use the custom as I have a 60GB Boot SSD with no space left so I install games to my D drive :( (D:\Final Fantasy)

BRB - Work, Will finish reply then :D

If only I could find out what that thing was... oh well!

It worked! Safe mode fixed it (although getting into Safe mode on a UEFI bios was not so fun) - But I now have FF7 working (kind of!)

I get a fail on 8 bit textures, and only have Software Renderer option.  Is there any way to get PSX-Emulator style upscaling and Windowed Mode enabled?  I also have no movies

EDIT :  I've just installed the new driver that is linked in these forums and it seems to have changed nothing.  Also insterestingly, since rebooting from Safemode, my computer has become amazingly sluggish.   I think I have 'exposed' myself to a virus... :(

Resolution set to 1024x768 in the config file didn't help, I may have taken a step wrong. :D

EDIT2 : Back from work and I've been following a tutorial to install FFRemix, and thats solved most of my problems! Now just to find out how to put it in windowed mode and remove some of the unwanted mods!!

I haven't installed Google Chrome - I'm currently using Firefox.   I'll try the Safe-mode install now.

Thank you for helping :)

General Discussion / Installation Problem?
« on: 2012-07-01 23:12:55 »
Hi guys,

I'm looking to install my copy of FF7 on Windows 7 but I'm running into a problem - It simply wont install!

My copy is an Asia-Pacific version - EA Classics edition with holograms and embossed logos and properly printed CDs, so I'm 99% sure its legitimate.

I've tried running FF7inst and Setup.exe from the disc - I've also tried running them in compatibility modes etc but no luck - Does anyone have a work around?

My Windows install is relatively fresh but recent updates seem to break another older program to stop it running all together too (Paint Shop Pro 9)

Any help would be massivley appreciated.

Regards/ Richie

Graphical / Help me find the best mods!
« on: 2012-07-01 22:41:04 »
Hi guys,

(TL:DR - I am very confused with all the mods available - Can you help me compile the ones I want and how to implement them?
Please if you have the links to the forum/file please post a reply.

Mods I want -
Final Fantims Remastered Music (Have the music - Need the mod/guide to add these)
Better Field Chibis  - http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=9688.0 Need more like this and downloads
Better Field Backgrounds - Downloading from torrent (Facepalmer.zip) (Need the mod/guide to add these) - Any other better replacements?
Retextured Battle Scenery and World - Like in this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOn6fnwPTcA&feature=my_favorites&list=FLh-Nt-LKtyohydK9PbhDbJg
Better Battle Characters + Weapons - I'm not sure if there is such a mod JUST for these...
Retextured Enemies - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeY9qd6d8Ms&list=PLBB06477AB8987AE9&index=4&feature=plpp_video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM6zGuFB0aM&feature=BFa&list=PLBB06477AB8987AE9, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd1-siysggs&feature=BFa&list=PLBB06477AB8987AE9, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MDpuxlVx20&feature=BFa&list=PLBB06477AB8987AE9, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHh4TCrvuJM&feature=BFa&list=PLBB06477AB8987AE9

I didn't realise for a very long time that Qhimm was somewhere I found myself coming back to every month to check the progress of mods and FF7 projects, but I've finally realised this and I'm finally making the leap to begin replaying Final Fantasy VII on PC again.  I have an old Asian continent PC version (surprisingly in English language though!) that I'm looking to mod and I was hoping you guys could help me quickly and easily piece together a plan to mod all the features I would like into the game :)

Specs - i7 2600K, 16GB RAM, ATI 6950 GFX Card, 64 bit Windows 7 Business. (64bit, is this a problem?)

1.  Music
FinalFantims music has been on my phone for 2 years - I love his work and he has captured the essence of Nobou Uematsus music almost perfectly.   I'd like to use this music in game (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8160.0) - Is this possible?

2. Graphical Overhaul - Battle Screen
I've seen some beautiful HD textures and Models remade, but my main concern is that I only like them in battle - I don't want them to enter into the realm of the World-screen.  Not only this but HD textures for the battle stages would be welcomed. But which mods allow this?
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12522.0 - Note to self - Find out how extensive this is and how to remove bits I don't like such as World non chibis

3. Graphical Overhaul - World and Scene Screens
Are there any HD background arts for the levels?  That would be AWESOME! Also, I don't like the FF8 style characters on the World and Scene screens (Chibis ftw)  - Are there any updated chibis for this (even if the models are FF9 quality but with HD textures I would be extatic)

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=9688.0
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11933.msg165489#msg165489

4. Menu and Retranslation
I've already seen a great mod for this, but I'm waiting for the owners to update to M05b.  Also, I'm not entirely sure on how to go about modding this in / how much it will already do.
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11649.0

For the above points, what would you give me advice on the following
a) Mods available to do these updates
b) best ones in your opinion
c) any further advice on things I may have missed
d) any advice on compatibility or installation I should know.

Regards/ Richie

(EDIT - Can a mod or admin please move this to Final Fantasy Forums - General Discussion please?  I feel I may be in the wrong section here - Sorry)
(EDIT 2 - Linking pictures and threads I find, as I find them)
(EDIT 3 - TLDR Added)
