we need "texel origin alignment" enabled in nvidia GPU's and drivers post-FX5X00 series and drivers post 77.XX (though some combinations work)

Texel Origin Alignment is the nvidia equivalent of ATI's Alternate Pixel Center.
Now that i think about it though, that only helps with AA, the "Black boxes" problem occurs with or without AA...
so 8-bit palleted textures might just be the problem.
On my Geforce 3 Ti200 before i upgraded to the 6600:

now that i have the 6600 theres absolutely nothing i can do to fix the black squares.
BOTH cards were using nvidia 91.31 forceware which kind of implies its a hardware issue with new cards, though drivers and new cards together could be to blame.
drivers and old card works fine.

You don't really believe in that, do you?
No, noone of them will sit back in front of a debugger and try to write a patch for a +5 year old game...

They also did not write a Chocobo-Patch for FF7 - we had to do it.

Eidos made both of them, EA just published FF8 port. You can tell, because Eidos published FF8 in the UK, which is evident by their UK website if you do enough searching.

This topic is AWESOME! I've downloaded some stuff and already tested. I just want to know how can I use MP3 files instead MID. FF8conf22 does it? If it does, how can I configure to use it?

I know this is not the right topic for this question but I want to translate FF8 to portuguese, so I need some explanation how to do it... If anyone knows how can I do it, please help! I'm from Brazil, so excuse for any error in the text.

Peace!

Hi guys I can see you have been talking about the black boxes and lines in ff8.
I have the same problem I use a geforce 6800, and I have tried to install the 1.2 patch but that does not help.
In the config it says 8 bit paletted textures fail

What to do????

Ijust got the game for pc and was really looking forward to playing it

There's *no fix* for the black box problem, besides to either use software rendering or a different graphics card.

Software rendering basically means that the software renders the graphics using your CPU rather than using the Direct3d hardware renderer on your graphics card. It is often slower and the quality is not as good as hardware rendering. However it can help with compatibility issues which arise over using specialized hardware graphics systems. To select software rendering open up ff8config and on the graphics tab select software rendering.

Really Great topic.

I recently got my hand on FF7 and FF8 for PC (I had the PSX version), it was great (I'm an FF8 fan). But, when I got out from Garden, the results were simply nasting.

As I saw on the Screenshot upthere, the road didn't have an texture, and Garden looked "Squared" =/

Is there a way to make the Grapfics a little more like the PSX Version?

And the music too was terrible, but I will try those patches/soundfonts!

THANKS AGAIN!

So, there is no way to fix this?? Using Direct 3D Hardware Acceleration.

Ugh, software mode... *shudders*

I have problems with lots of horizontal lines with my notebook. I have a Geforce Go card, not sure which one. It works generally okay in software mode except the soundfont music lags at times, which is funny considering my notebook has a 3ghz processor. Anyway, I didn't previously notice the Geforce patch so I will try that tonight and see if it works! I'll also see if there's any anti-aliasing options on the Geforce menu but I don't think there was. Oh well, I'll snoop around on the forums.

People with Nvidia can solve the black box problem by installing the omega drivers.
