Hi everyone fist time posting. Thank you very much for your hard work, I am having an installation problem...

I have "installed" (copy and pasted all the files in the right folder) for tonberry and other stuff (seed, eden and controller mapping), unfortunately nothing happen or changed, like it is not working at all.
I have windows 7 ultimate (not original), and the only thing that I couldn't do of the installation of Tonberry was the "VC++ 2010 Redistributable (x86)" because it recognise a newer version.

What I need to do to debug the problem?

Taking a screenshot of how you have everything set up might be helpful. Make sure you aren't using any other injector like SweetFX. Or you could be one of the rare few where the newest version isn't working properly.

Updated my boss upscale. Reupscaled everything using Waifux2-Caffe and tried my best to smooth out the edges in places that needed them. I also updated the before and after pictures to represent the reupscaling. If there are any noticeable problems, be sure to let me know. :)

Hello,

I'm having the same problem as Andyus86 it would seem, except he wasn't kind enough to share his solution  :|

I've gone through every single post and checked all my settings but I'm still having the same problem.

The game is launching in a small window (with a fuzzy resolution) despite having fullscreen enabled. If I disable fullscreen, the game launches at the correct resolution in a window with a black square covering the top right corner.

Changing the GeDoSaTo default settings to force fullscreen does indeed force fullscreen but at the wrong resolution. Log files aren't showing any errors. I have the latest version of this, Tonberry enhanced, RaW. I installed all these mods this week, so everything is fresh and was tested and working great - only GeDoSaTo is causing problems.

Any help would be so much appreciated - I'm so close to the perfect setup!

Thanks in advance :)

Not sure if you ever figured it out, but I'll post how I fixed it since I ran into the same problem. Maybe this'll help others in the future. From what I tested, the game doesn't seem to like the resolution "3840x2160" or higher for me when using GeDoSaTo. Even though it used to work just fine and still works fine if I use Nvidia's DSR instead. So I activated the resolution "3200x1800" in the config file, used that, and the game runs the way it should. You still get the perks of downscaling/postprocessing effects and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the two resolutions with this game.

Releases / Re: [FF8PC-Steam] HD FMV Replacement
« on: 2016-07-19 02:53:48 »
Thank you for telling me about that error. I already checked and it's the codec I was using, with VP8 it works fine.

The two videos converted to 30fps are playing well ingame, it doesn't lock at 15fps. Framerate conversion is not my priority right now but I will definitely do it on more videos, especially the ones with a lot of judder.

Glad to hear it. :D I can't wait to see/use the final product once you're finished. I'm also wondering if it's worth adding the PSX audio into the PC clips like Kayeal did? I know there is some distortion in the audio in the PC version. It's not a big deal or anything. Just curious.

Ah, I see. That's good to know on the 30FPS videos.

29 videos edited:

I intend to edit the rest of the videos before fixing framerate issues and restoring important microdetails in these videos. If you think I'm doing something wrong or have any tips to improve quality please tell me.

While the clips look much better at 30FPS, the game might force them back to 15FPS. But I guess we'll have to see on that. After testing out your clips, it seems it causes the same bug that Kayeal ran into and that's invisible characters after the FMVs.

I'm not sure if this is due to the codec you're using(for Kayeal, it was the codec) but I figured I'd let you know. It'd be a shame for you to go through all this work only for the clips to have to be redone in some way. :(

I'm having a problem with seifer's head texture where I can sometimes see right through the side of his head. I'm using Tonberry 2.04 and the other character models I've seen don't seem to have this problem.

That's actually the game causing that. It happens without the mod as well. The only other time I've seen it is with Squall in space. It bothers me as well... Maybe eventually someone can find a way to fix it.

Troubleshooting / Re: Tonberry & Mods help
« on: 2016-06-26 00:39:55 »
Would my operating system have any effect? I'm running Windows 10.

I meant for you to put them in the "disabled" folder, restart, and see how it looks. Then move them back outside of the folder, restart, and check again. No differences at all? If SeeD Reborn is working, then it's odd the others wouldn't... As for Windows 10, no. I'm using that OS.

I also noticed in your screenshots that you have the Apocalypse hashmap but I don't see the "bo" folder in your textures folder.

Please help me. I have dragged my mod textures into the textures folders, as well as the other aspects. The only HD textures I am getting are the title screen and menu.

Here are images from my FFVIII folder. I don't understand. Please help me.
https://app.box.com/s/rnevji9dpupm7mrslqu0wwz6b1lvwxua

Everything appears to be in place. SeeD Reborn is a complete overhaul while all the others are x4 upscales. So they are mainly for more detail/less pixelation. Also, TT should look considerably different as well. Have you played a game of cards?

The best way to see if everything is working is to move your hashmaps into your "disabled" folder. Restart the game and see if there are any differences.

84

oh no, it's working in the battle. i mean Fujin and Raijin new texture are not work in the field like Seifer ...etc...
exemple for the first time Squall talk with them in Galbadia Garden, they were still original texture

Then all is working as it should. Like I said, I haven't added those in yet. I probably will, soon. I'm working on updating a few things on this project and others.

85
sr for my bad English :(
my question. there has a Fujin and Rajin texture in folder textures but not in Rebirth Flame hashmap file, so the replacement texture is not working for them. right

That's okay. :)

As for the hashmap and textures... They should all be there. The codes are only for the battle models. I haven't gotten around to their low poly models. So if they aren't loading in battle, then I must've messed something up somewhere.

86
Try going to "Edit Settings" and find "interceptOnlySystemDlls". Set it to "true" and see if GeDoSaTo will work then. It works for me. Though, the text in the menu and title screen have some strange artifacts. But that's about it.

87
The only thing that annoys me so far is the button prompts are for an xbox controller. Trying to imput Aurons overdrive with a PS3 pad is just annoying I can't seem to get used to it.

If anyone manages to restore the PS2 button prompts I would love you for ever.

Pretty sure this guy has included that in his mod already.

I appreciate the thanks. :D Even if most of the mods are actually the work of others more so than my own. Haha.

Did you download Tonberry 2.04? Nothing will work without it or the hashmaps you can also download on the first page. Textures will go into into the texture folder. Or, in this case, just replace the folder with the one you have. And hashmaps and objmaps will go into their folders within Tonberry. Also Tonberry and the files with it will be put in your Final Fantasy VIII folder.

90
Hope to see what you guys find out. Still on the fence of getting it, but really want to sink Tonberry into it and see what happens. The whole controller issue does leave me suspicious since others are having that issue. As for other things... I expected the backgrounds to be iffy. SE after all. Minimum effort. 30 FPS. PS1 game, so I see no issue with that. People are complaining about it being locked to 4:3, so I take it you can't even stretch it to the screen?

91
So I saw this bit of news today. This won't bother some people, I'm sure. But I prefer a proper PC port. Not a mobile one to PC. Seems lazy to me. http://nichegamer.com/2016/04/13/steam-version-final-fantasy-ix-will-require-android-plugins/

92
Curseknight:I didn't give you any hints because i don't know how does works the latest release of tonberry. I developped Berrymapper for the first release of Tonberry, which didn't manage the hashmaps the same way. We used to have only objmap.csv for characters, and hash1map.csv for everything else.

As far as I know, Tonberry 2.04 kept Omzy's original hashing method that you based BerryMapper off of. So it all still works the same in that regard. Everything just runs smoother and less game breaking bugs(along with a few new features). But the next release will most likely have how everything is hashed changed. But I haven't a clue when that release will happen.

93
Believe me, I did look everywhere, opening a thread was my last choice. There are no instructions mentioning specifically what files should be hashed. I found instructions about unpacking the game's files with some applications - Unmass, Garden and PuPu but all of them either did not work or did not provide me with the original textures for the character models (which I assume are the ones to be hashed). Using Deling I could view and extract many files of the game, but there is no character texture folder within the unpacked archives. I've found everything, even the model files, except the textures they use.

I believe that the original textures to be replaced by tonberry via hashing are contained in the model files (MCH), but I don't know how I would separate the texture from the model, so that I could hash it. Hashing the entire model file does not work.

This is simply lack of a very specific knowledge that I need in order to get the hashing done, once I know how to obtain the correct files for hashing, the rest is simple. Shunsq, you developed berrymapper, so wouldn't you know where to get the files that go to the INPUT folder to be hashed and replaced?

To dump files with Tonberry, you have to turn debug on in the "prefs".txt. Then rename the "debug0" folder to "debug" and textures will go there. Then play the game and go to the area where the textures are vanilla. You should be able to find the ones you're looking for. Then run those textures through BerryMapper. I don't know how they'll be with replaced models, though. I generally recommend using the hashcodes rather than objmap ones because it yields less glitches. But just know that there can be a lot codes/textures depending on the area and whichever NPC is there as well.

94
On some maps Selphie shows with the replaced model, and with the replaced texture, on others she shows with the replaced model but with the vanilla texture. Do I need to generate new hashes?

Thanks

Probably so. I never swapped models when hashing. Not sure if it'll cause any sort of unknown glitches or not with different models. But, hey, let me know how it goes.

95
Do we have to put the whole folder in the hashmap? Or the files? I'm having real trouble I am about to give up.

Just the hashmap file. Only the folder containing textures go in the folder called "textures".

96
EDIT: Just as a sidenote.. Is there any major reason why FFVII's Steam version requires such a major "downgrade" to the 1998 version just to add mods.. While the Steam version of FFVIII is so incredibly simple, and without having to change the original game's files? This isn't meant to sound harsh or rude, but a bit of constructive criticism of FFVII's modding system (7th Heaven) compared to FFVIII's (Tonberry). Tonberry is fantastic and only uses texture files and hashmaps..

While Tonberry could potentially work for FF7 Steam if ever optimized for it, it can only replace textures. And one thing that FF7 does differently from FF8 is that certain aspects of the game uses polygons. So while you can replace things like backgrounds, icons, text, and battle effects... You wouldn't be able to do anything with character models and the like. Well... Except their eyes. :P I should know, considering I've played through the entire game with Tonberry debug on to extract everything I could.

97
Indeed Overlay is disabled.  I verified the integrity of cache and it found 83 files missing but from looking at the date modified, it looks like it just replaced the music files that it had been using prior to installing RaW.  Couldn't find anything else added.  I have to go away for a week but next weekend I'll verify that it's still not working.  I appreciate your reply.

Hm, I guess we'll see once you make it back. To my knowledge, there are more than 83 music tracks... I recommended this method because a few others had similar problems leaving to the world map and that seemed to resolve it for the most part. And no problem. :)

Hello, I'm new here. Thank you for all the work modding the game.

I have a question, I just installed the latest version, and various mods (here's the folders of tonberry and textures)  http://imgur.com/a/qKjvu

I have the correspondent files in textures and in objmap, and the game function properly. But the screen when I enter the game had some glitches. The Squaresoft logo only show the center part, and the black square which shows the controls before the "new game - continue" menu don't show anything. And in game the exit command (esc) only show the buttons, but no the words.

So, anyone know what could be? Overlay in steam is disabled. (here are the pictures of the problem) http://imgur.com/a/XFRGf

Thank to all for the hard work!

Cheers!

Thanks for posting screenshots. For starters, delete hash1map. You don't need it since you have the Project Eden hashmap. Secondly, moved collisions and hash2map out of the hashmap folder. They should reside just inside the Tonberry folder. Thirdly, I think you also installed an old version of Rebirth Flame? So you need to delete Char_Textures_hm since you already have RebirthFlame_hm. Lastly, I'm not sure what that objfile is for... But that goes in the objmap folder. Not the hashmap folder.

Having some issues.  First time modding FF8.  Using Steam version.  Using everything here:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=391096600

Except for the "Gameplay, Beta and Future" mods

Having two issues.  It seems like the backgrounds aren't smoothed out at all.  Hard to tell if the originals were just that much worse or if that mod isn't working.

The biggest issue, though, is that whenever I'm done with Quistis's tutorial and try to exit the screen to the World Map for the first time, the game hangs indefinitely.  The World Map music plays but there is no transition.  It hangs on the screen I was attempting to leave and just sits there with Squall stuck at the edge of the screen.

Can anyone help me efficiently troubleshoot this?

A good way to see if the backgrounds are working is to put the ProjectEden_hm in the disabled folder, restart the game, and see if you can notice any differences. Plus, you can also use Linear Filtering if you want to get rid of more pixelation as well. I'm sure you also have the Steam Overlay disabled. You might be able to fix the hanging issue by using "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" that Steam has. You right click the game in your list and it'll be in the properties.

Yes, windows 10 pro. Weird, after that latest update that seems like when the problems started happening.

From what I've learned, it seems the newest update broke the driver for the controller. I couldn't play some of my own PC games until I reverted the driver back to an older version.

I found a fix to do that here. All works for me now and I hope it does the same for you. Should be the fix closest to the last post.
