General Discussion / Re: FF7 has voice acting?
« on: 2010-12-26 20:18:03 »
Yup, I was aware of this too. This voice acting was around even for the first PSX release.

You can hear some voice acting for when Cloud sees the Highwind for the first time in Junon Airport, and the earlier FMV sequence of the helicopters flying around the Mako Cannon in Midgar.

Never-used love points system? If I'm not mistaken, isn't it used to judge who you go on dates with at the Gold Saucer? And do you know where one might find the Tobal demo? I have a friend that's looking.
The Japanese Tobal FFVII demo, to be more precise. ;)
Already got the English one.

EDIT: Nevermind, found the demo now.

53
I was thinking of listing all the unused animations, but naturally I want to know if someone else has already done it.

If they have, I'd very much like to see this work.

I am fairly certain that it was on the 1000th kill Cait Sith got his limit break here, though I can go back and check if in fact it was the 999th kill. *using Master Tonberry's Everyone's Grudge attack formula* I have old save files to check this.
Edit: Yes, it is definitely on the 1000th kill Cait Sith earns his Lv3 limit breaks. Don't know what else to say about that.

When I used Mime to mimick the failed Limit Break, due to lack of MP, what happened was that no action was performed. The game essentially freezes because it's waiting for Cait Sith to perform an animation which doesn't exist, and here the game does not resort to the "Not enough MP" message. What's interesting though is that the standard 'Limit surge' animation was not performed when I used Mime.

It is not unheard of that an attack requires more than 255 MP.
See GarlandTheGreat's video on Rare Enemy Attacks, at the beginning he makes an enemy perform an attack that requires 65535 MP.

But I am honestly more interested in finding out if other Glitch Limits like these exists in the original japanese release. Since I'm not up to the task of killing thousands of monsters with every character and trying out every limit an insane amount of times, I thought there might be a way to read the game's files and figure this out the easy way.

When you defeat 1000 enemies using Cait Sith he gains two glitchy Lv3 Limit Breaks.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJWsLZDU_gU

This 'glitch limit break' was removed in all later versions.
I am interested in knowing if any other glitchy/incomplete limit breaks exist in the original japanese FFVII, whether they be accessible via defeating enemies or using a limit a set number of times.

Also, exact data on how the limit gauge growth depends on damage would be nice. The gauge growth for Cait Sith's third limit break is extreme, requiring tens of times his max HP in order to fill up to max.

Any help is appreciated. Keep in mind that I do not know a single word of Japanese so any advice that requires this will be of no use. I am also not a hacker or a programmer of any sort.

Note: Posted in General rather than Tech Related as this question does not relate to any program or mod which I know about.

Troubleshooting / Re: FFVII PC; modding difficulties

Searched the net for another compressor and found "LZSCDec". Either it doesn't work or I am confused.
First I thought I needed to compress all the lgp files into an flevel file through this application, but it can not pick an entire folder but only one file at a time.

So I tried compressing (with LZSCDec) an flevel file I created through LGPtools, which took hours, but the end result could not even start FFVII.

I am even more confused with the cmd. I read the readme file but I have no idea what to do. Dragging the suggested ficelzs.exe file to the cmd makes it display the text referred to in the readme, but I'm simply clueless.

were you talking about F i c e L Z S ?

cause it can be found on fidecula's home page

http://www.sylphds.net/f2k3/php/programs.php?category=ff7
Thanks very much.

Though I can't manage to get it working. The command line just instantly goes away when I try to use it.
I am using Windows (not familiar with any other format). I do not have a DOS. With the description "run it from DOS prompt but it needs to be run from within Windows" I assume I can not use this utility?

Troubleshooting / FFVII PC; modding difficulties
« on: 2009-09-10 21:07:13 »
The plan is to use Meteor to edit field files, then compress the lgp files into an flevel file and replace the original flevel file.
The (de)compressor used for most part has been 'lgptools160'. Has worked well in decompressing the flevel file and making the field files viewable through Meteor.

It fails in successfully compressing the field files, whether edited or not. The total file size is never right and the save files fail to load.

This problem seems referred to in this thread, http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=1296.0 , so I would not be surprised if lgptools is NOT the way to go. Using the Advanced Editor option (instead of trying to create an entirely new flevel file) results in the entire game itself refusing to load.
Weird, since this Tutorial, http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8092.0 , appears to indicate that lgp tools should work just fine.

Been looking at other LGP viewers/extractors, but Highwind yields me no results, and applicants such as Kaddy I simply can not get to even load. I've been trying at this for hours now.

Is there a possible noobish mistake I could be committing here?
What application do you recommend for compressing edited field files (which have been edited both in 'Dialog' and 'Entites&Script', as seen through Meteor) ?

Can't think of much more since I'm stumped, basically.

Recently I went through all the field files, gathered from the PC version, and although Meteor performed excellently most of the time it refused to read some files and instead just crashed.

I used Meteor (Alpha v0.2), http://www.alaunus.com/wp/?page_id=5

Anybody else experience this? Could it be my field files are corrupted?

I also have found no way to contact Synergy Blades about this. Anybody have his email address?

Here is a list of those (apparently) unreadable files:
Cargoin, Cosmo, Cosmo2, fr_e, gaiin_7, hyoumap, jtemplc, junone22, kuro_11, las1_1, md0, md_e1, mtcrl_4, nivgate2, nivgate3, qc, rckt3, rckt32, sango2, trnad_52, white2, zmind1, zmind2, zmind3

(junin2 is also a bit messy; it can not display the pre-rendered background and once I load the file a message pops up saying "An unhandled exception occurred" but I can still run Meteor and the file.)

60
Nop, it wasn't Mimic7, it was called Meteor. I don't see why would you need the physical discs, you just need the flevel.lgp file. Unless we are talking  about the PSX version, Meteor just works for the PC version.

Is it possible I may not have an flevel.lgp file at all? Sounds weird, but I just can't find it.
Edit: I am now downloading the flevel.lgp file.

61
I recall there was a program for viewing/editing the game script (found in field files contained in flevel.lgp). I can't remember the name, though. I guess you could see there which flags are manipulated by every event.
You mean 7mimic? Hmm, I may have misunderstood its capabilities... Unfortunately I can't use it atm. I need to use my actual physical FFVII disc to use it. Unless I could go around it somehow...

62
It might be easier for me to figure out the proper software if I know what KIND of files I am looking for. Anyone knows?

63
The Aeris ghost in the church can be erased by talking to a certain guy in the Nibelheim flashback. I want to figure out if any more characters erase the ghost.

I heard in this thread that Meteor should be able to help me figure this out. I have the PC version, LGP tools, Highwind and other applications as well.
However every time I select an .lgp file in Meteor, I get the message "Does not appear to be a valid field file". Unpacking any .lgp file and trying to select that one in Meteor leads me nowhere either.

What am I doing wrong? How do I make full use of Meteor? Why can I not find any flevel.lgp files?
