Néo-Midgar is a Final Fantasy VII retranslation project in French, whose started on 30 January 2008. After six years of hard work, Acro, the creator of this project, managed with his team to produce the patch that will make you rediscover this masterpiece from a completely different angle.



The project is completely finished, it is a simple installer that will patch your game; it works on every PC versions and on the french PS version.

The installer is available for free on the official website (in french). It is also possible to pay us a cup of coffee with a donation here.

I was one of the contributors of this project, mainly as the programmer of the installer. It is time to post it here in the Qhimm forum.

Great job!

It looks like the original translation was a total disaster in all the European languages (French, German and Spanish).
Fortunately we have a re-translation of these 3 languages.

Will it work with other mods on a 7H instal( Menu overhaul, NT Mod, etc.. ) for example ?

It should, the Néo-Midgar patch replace only texts (and some specific textures), so mods are kept.

Here are the altered files:

Minimal patch:

  • kernel/window.bin -> replaced (few characters modified, some spaces changed)
  • wm/world_xx.lgp/mes -> replaced
  • wm/world_xx.lgp/wm0.ev -> patched, window sizes updated
  • wm/world_xx.lgp/wm3.ev -> patched, window sizes updated
  • menu/menu_xx.lgp/btl_win_{abcd}_l.tex -> replaced
  • menu/menu_xx.lgp/colo{abc}.tex (Gold Saucer) -> replaced
  • menu/menu_xx.lgp/usfont_{ab}_{hl}.tex -> replaced
  • minigame/xchocobo.lgp -> tex files replaced
  • field/xlevel.lgp -> field files patched (texts replaced, scripts replaced, few encounters and sound fixes)

Full patch:

Same that minimal, plus:
  • kernel/kernel2.bin -> patched and compressed more (with some file format breaking)
  • battle/scene.bin -> texts patched
  • kernel/KERNEL.BIN -> references to scene.bin format updated
  • ff7*.exe -> texts patched if found at the correct offset, and few instructions modified

So basically, you will have troubles with mods that change the game font, or field scripts.

I'm working on an adaptation of the NT mod with Néo-Midgar but it will take a while. And you'll have to wait for Sega Chief to have finish his mod. Meanwhile, my mod has been made to be compatible with Néo-Midgar http://ff7.fr/forum/index.php?page=post&ids=319186

Is version 1.7 the final version or will there possibly be other updates in the future?
