7th Heaven / Music question
« on: 2017-12-29 22:25:09 »
After a few years of being away from modding ffvii, so much has changed! Needless to say, I was forced to reinstall windows...and ffvii. My saved modded game wouldn't work >> So I decided it was time to redo it with the steam version someone bought for me instead of my discs...and I found 7th Heaven.

It's a lot easier to use than Bootleg, I think (though I appreciated Bootleg for everything it did), but I do have one question. My previously modded game, I used FF7Music and was able to do my own tracks with a mix of OST, orchestral, and FFVIIAC music...but it doesn't sound like 7th heaven works if you use that plugin under sound, right? Am I reading this right? And if it doesn't, is there a way for me to do my music again in a way that's compatible with 7th heaven?

EDIT: it wasn't that difficult to just rename the audio files and make the mod, so I have my music list again. This program is very easy to use!

General Discussion / Re: FF7 Remake comming closer?
« on: 2007-05-01 17:57:36 »
My point was, I read an interview with Tetsuya Nomura once that he did with someone after he had come back to creating games after two years (?) of taking a break. He apparently left square, took almost his whole team with him, and started his own company. He hinted strongly that SE was making games not for the love of story but just for money. *shrugs* Even their on-staff music composer, Nobuo Uematsu, basically left. He still did a few tracks for XII, but he's no longer exclusive to SE anymore.

I think you were talking abou Sakaguchi-sama (Hironobu Sakaguchi), he left $quare €nix with most of the Square Soft team and he now have his own company (with Microsoft?), dont remember now the name of the company (gess is Mistwalker [xD], or something like that), and Nobuo Uematsu works with them.

Right?

Oh, was that Sakaguchi? It's been so long ago, that I didn't remember. Thank you! ^^

Hmm, really? Guess I was wrong. I just wonder why he didn't do XII, though.

What with Tetsuya Nomura leaving Square some time ago (I heard that FFVII DoC which I played despite my dislike of shooter games because I love Vincent), I'm not sure I'd want to see a remake. I have been only dismally impressed (that is to say, not at all) with some of their latest Final Fantasy games. I loved X as much as VII and X-2 was like a slap in the face. I couldn't even get through that game to find out what happened to my beloved Tidus. Oh well. Then came DoC, which was okay, but I doubt I'd play that more than once. Never played XI because I'm not interested in online gaming. And then the horrific (sorry for those who like the games, this is only my opinion) FFXII. I don't want to spoil those that are playing the game and don't know, but their overused plot device of related siblings and family members just got absurd after awhile. I haven't finished playing it, which is a shame because it was a christmas present.

Unfortunately, I don't have a link to that particular article. I never had it. My mother found it and pulled me over to her computer to read it and I read it about a year ago. :( Wish I could show you all and get your opinions, but I have no idea where to find it.

EDIT: Well, I fixed the crashing problem, but now I have another one. I chose, because I love AC's soundtrack, to put in Those Who Fight Further from that cd instead of Still More Fighting from the OST for boss battle music. Now the AC random battle music shows up and assume any other tracks I changed will too (haven't gotten past the first boss yet), but not the boss battle. I took out the mp3 from the OST and it still plays it, so I can only assume that it's playing the midi. I've got ff7 music config to disable midi on custom playback, but that didn't fix it either. Any ideas?

Ohhh, okay. ^^ It's just a tiny pet peeve. Doesn't bother me that I can't get rid of it, I'll still play the game as usual. Thanks!

So much for my success story on the other page. This time I really do need help and in a rather big way.

A minor question before we get to the big one for the FF7 gurus. Is there any way of getting the black off the bottom of the screen?

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h124/psychicdreams/ff72007-04-1216-41-45-53.jpg
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h124/psychicdreams/ff72007-04-1216-37-16-29.jpg

Fraps shows only the bottom of the screen as black, but my monitor shows black on all four sides, just more on the bottom. I thought about moving my desktop size down to 640x480 to see if it would fix it, but apparently 640x480 no longer exists with newer computers, since the lowest I could go was 800x600 (which didn't fix it a single whit anyway.) I also have Saint's high-res patch in there, in case that might be pertinent information.

Now onto the BIGGER problem. I can't really play this game right.

You see, I just updated my processor to a dual-core (AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2), which ended up forcing me to reinstall my windows. This time I put in SP2 as well for my XP Professional. I'd made a LOVELY backup of my games with Acronis and was just going to put it right back thank you just as it was, except somehow the backup got corrupted and I had to reinstall the game with all my patches and mods. Not fun, but I could live with it.

This time around, I'm having quite a bit of problems I'd never had before. I had gridlines, which I fixed, with antialiasing and all and it looks beautiful. I have ff7music and it sounds great to go along with the pretty graphics. However, I keep crashing. This isn't really RANDOM so much as...

I get one fade to black successful and the next time, it WILL crash. The screen will go away and not come back and I have to hard restart to get anywhere. I only get that one successful fade to black after I first start up the game. If I quit and start it back up again, it'll just fade to where its trying to load the save game and crash. It especially does this after random battles. Can't complete one. It's unplayable. I tried compatibility mode with 98 and 95, still the same.

I have a NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GS video card, with 93.71 drivers. I did have the 91.7-something before for a long time with no problems. I only recently updated my video drivers so I could play Bethesda Software's Oblivion. It probably didn't need it, but with this fresh install of windows, I figured, what the hey?

Can anyone help?

EDIT: Oh dear...I found the problem and now I feel so stupid. I'm going to feel comfortable blaming my brain for going idiotic because I'd been installing a lot of programs and games yesterday and today...At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it :p

For those who might want to know/have this problem: when you install the game, make sure the required directshow and directx 5 it wants in there are installed. Even if you think that since directx 9 should be more than enough, put it in anyway.  I ended up uninstalling and putting in each patch one by one and checking each and every time I put in something new just to be sure and it ran as smooth as glass. Even fixed the black on all sides that appeared with Saint's patch by touching up the monitor size with no ill-effects for overall. I'll just slink away in shame for my most idiotic mistake now... :-P

Wow, it's been a long while since I was on here. Unfortunately Real Life sucks, along with trying to put in a dual-core processor. But we're not going to go into it and the heavy fan that snapped off the little brackets on the motherboard that held it and crashed onto my video card that THANKFULLY DIDN'T BREAK.

Anyway, I'd made an Acronis back up (GREAT program, btw, totally worth the buy), but that didn't work, so I ended up reinstalling fresh from the game and redoing ALL the patches. Not on my list of favorite things since I also lost all my save games and have to start over. I'm still messing with the sound, as it's not that great and don't get me started on fixing the video screen.

I did want to mention that I tried wave files and they don't work. I don't use winamp, but foobar2000. I bought the AC soundtrack and love it to death (I can tell you what track name is playing while I watch the movie :p), so I converted one of my flacs (battle music) to wave to test it. I know for a fact that it won't work with flacs without testing it, since the creator told me so herself. Unfortunately, it also does not work with wave files.

I'm also having a bit of a problem with my sound, but I want to uncheck a sound setting for my sound card itself before posting about it here, if I can even describe it.

EDIT: Slowly replacing all my tracks. As for those Shinra Explode tracks where there are apparently 2 missing from the OST, I found them. They were in one file, Disc 4, Track 12, The Mako Cannon is fired. Thank god for Adobe Audition, I listened to the minispf (I downloaded a zip where someone wonderfully put up all the tracks, can't find who at the moment since I'm lazy :p) and compared it to that particular track. I have 320 mp3s of those tracks and can upload them if anyone wants them. Also, I have the fanfare2, and straight bombing mission edited from the mp3s. The only ones I don't have are these:

wind=
heart=
sato=
sensui=

What I really wish is that orchestral version would work with Samuel's. That was my mother's favorite, but it only seems to update a few tracks, while Samuel's does the whole thing. In the end, even though I used the orchestral version for a while, I'd rather have a whole updated sound than just a few, even if I really liked them. So I ended up just going with Samuel's.

Someone I know also suggested that and unfortunately, I have to say, that also does not work.

Oh dear. I have never had the W-Summon or Final Attack materia ;_; Where exactly do you get them? I've never had KotR because I never cared to breed gold chocobos...

Hmm, okay, thank you. I've never beaten either of the weapons before, unfortunately. They kick my ass :/ Which do I fight first, Emerald or Ruby?

Well, if it's in the north crater and you can't leave once you enter, how do you get the master materia?  :?

Hmm...yes, I have a computer set up in the living room next to the TV that will allow me to capture that, but I wanted to see if it was possible to rip them from the game first before going to that step. Just in case.

Hmmm...I'm still not having any idea where it is. What continent is it on? Can you tell me if it's near a town so I can look on the map in the strategy guide?

Yeah, I thought you couldn't leave once you entered. So, um, forgive me for seeming like a newbie even if I've played the game several times...what gold lake area are you referring to? Is that near the gold saucer...?

Awww, oh well. I don't expect there really is a way to access them from the game code itself, but I thought I'd ask.

...okay...that's a nice way of putting a damper on someone's mood. I think I shall ride right past that post. That's a rather...cute picture, Jari, though I'm definitely more a dog fan. I have an adorable German Shepherd puppy that is 1 and a half years old and he is just the cutest thing ever XDD

Oops, got off track. Anyway, Jari, if you have any ideas, feel free to let me know.

Hmmm...since this is a technical kind of forum, I decided to ask here. Has anyone ever found a way of getting the FMVs out of Shadow Hearts: Covenant or even perhaps Dirge of Cerberus? You see, I do music videos, but unless I can get the FMVs, I'm sorta out of luck for doing one. I just have tried everything I can think of to get them out and come up with nothing. So on the infinitesimal chance that someone here knows a new way I can try, I thought I'd ask.

Ooooh, wow. I'll look for the movers then. Too bad you can't find them earlier in the game :/ Far as I know, once you get to the north cave, you can't leave again, right? And if you can't leave, you can't exactly get the master materias, right? I mean, don't you have to, once you master a whole set, go back to bugenhagen or wherever the huge materia are and touch it and then you get it?

(I don't know since I've never once fully mastered any set since I've always gotten tired of leveling up the slow materia)

Wow, awesome list...just tell me how to get rid of a magic pot :/ I haven't played the game in a while so I haven't gotten fighting them yet, but...IIRC, I could just never damage them with magic or physical attacks.

How about this? First we're not sure if its your antialias settings or not, so how about turning off all of those settings, loading up the game and seeing the menu. If it still looks bad, then you just need to change the settings. If its not, try reapplying the patch to the game. It's the only thing I can think of.

Ahhh. This was what I was talking about in the FAQ about the text and the menus looking like crap. If you haven't, try patching your game. Secondly, if you're using antialiasing, try choosing a different setting. I've noticed that a few antialiasing settings in Rivatuner tended to do that to the menu, though the game may look fine.

Do you have the High Resolution text checked on your config?
