After 30 minutes Freeze/ Gc drivers
« on: 2012-05-24 15:14:28 »
Hello guys i have been counting the time until i get the super low game freezes and its precisly 30minutes ,, bellow that its still playable but after those 30 minutes its just imposible ,, like it takes 10minutes to pick the rewards after the fights ,, normally it takes 2 seconds..

So anyway i looked at this thread where the solution was to only install a Gc driver but the issue is that my graphic card is realyl really old and when i 1st installed it,, it took me a few hours just to find the version that can actually Run a 3D game , I downloaded like 10 version and i allways got some kind of not a 3d error message so i dont want it to happen again ...http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8126.0

My graphic card is Ati radeon X300-X550/X1050 ,, allways hated these Ati Cards cause they are so complicated to find

So can someone help me ?

Hi BAN___KAI

Search on this page for a driver. I think Catalyst 10.2 is right for you, otherwise try Catalyst 9.3

Hmm i dont know i chose the Desktop Graphics then Auto Detect graphic card , then it just found it and installed the drivers..

Another weird thing is that when i run the game in windowed mode it completly changed my Desktop resolution to 600x and Color to 6 bits ,, happens all the time

If you are using Windows XP you can install this WDM drivers manually.
I do not know if this is important for FF7, but maybe it helps.

Have you tried monitoring your card's temperature? This could be a safety mechanism, where it severely limits itself if it detects to be overheating.

If it is the temperature, the best thing you can do is take some canned air to the inside of your PC (especially any fans), and make sure it's got plenty of airflow.

Hi BAN___KAI

For examining the temperature of your graphic card you can download GPU-Z from here

Hi BAN___KAI

This is bad. I think something is wrong with your PC.
Please make sure that all device drivers are available, much like me.

You are using Windows XP?
Do you have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed?

Did you ". NET Framework 2.0" installed? (maybe needed for Catalyst Control Center)
Do you have any further updates from Microsoft installed?
Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed?

A lot of questions, hopefully one of them helps to find the error.
Many greetings Kompass63

Hi BAN___KAI

The post is so long because I included a few pictures  :-D
I slowly running out of ideas...

Open the Catalyst Control Center and look for an entry "Overdrive" or similar.

Please do not change anything! Only the temperature is interesting.
Leave the window open and start FF7. You can switch between by pressing ALT + TAB
If the graphics card has a fan you should be able to hear that it is faster
If the game is slow, check the temperature.
They should not be above 75 °Celsius

The ATI Radeon X-series were produced between 2004 and 2005.

I think you do not have ATI Radeon X-series, more of a Rage 128, Rage 128 Pro or Xpert 99 (or similarly, from 1999).
It is extremely important to find out which card is right!
Since GPU-Z would not work everest home my next recommendation (sorry for the German side).
If you have identified the graphics card carefully, you can download from AMD the right driver.
Do not use the automatic installation that has not ever worked.
Uninstall the current graphics card driver first and then install the correct one.
If you are unsure of which graphics card in your PC, you make a screenshot of Everest Home, while the details of the graphics card shows up, and put the picture here.

Greetings Kompass63

Edit:
You can also read that. But if your card has been built before 2004, your PC does not recognize them properly.

Hi there again , ,thanks again for continuing your help xD ,,

Well i made a screen shot of the GPU section of that program: in there its called Ati radeon X300 but in other sections like windows video and pc-i sections its different

GPU section:http://oi46.tinypic.com/suvn6w.jpg
PCI-AGP video section:look at the Eax name ,, http://oi50.tinypic.com/n685xc.jpg
Windows Video:http://oi50.tinypic.com/fau3rc.jpg

So its either x300, or x300+other series or EAX300 ,, damn ati cards

Btw just experianced my 1st slow down while running in the ff7 world ,, never happened before ,, only in battles ,, had like 1Fps ,, it was the ICE Map with tons of wind ,, Cpu was at like 80%

It seems in fact to be an ATI Radeon X300 and therefore is the proper driver Catalyst 10.2
The card is not so old and should work well with FF7 and the MOD's.

I've run out of ideas ...

I think that means that you wanted to istall two mutually incompatible mods. But you should read this thread once.

ok i had no more pattience so i deleted the game and installed it but without any mods .. and

The game works perfects ,, 0 slowdowns ,, no crashes ,, so i think its not about my Gc but the mods itself

Hi BAN___KAI

Some mods actually need more graphics power than others, several of these mods together just need a lot of graphics power.
But your card can do that, only after 30 minutes the game runs slower. a mystery...
Maybe you should always install 5 MODs at once to test, in which MOD is critical?

Never make changes to this file! You have opened the wrong file!
The correct file has the extension ". cfg"
"ff7_opengl.cfg"

If you want to play the game in the window, open the above file with notepad and write instead of "fullscreen = yes", "fullscreen = no".
