wow, you're a pretty damn good texturer to say the least! And wow, i'm Really liking that model :O impressive stuff :D
It's very easy to convert weapons to battle format, and if you want to do it for field too, its a little harder, but still pretty easy. for most serious FF7 model conversion, you're gonna need to get Pcreator, which is available from the qhimm wiki. once you have that, make sure the texture is at a resolution the game can take, else it will glitch up ingame. Convert the model to 3DS, and make sure there's only one piece of mesh data in each one, or else only one of them will load. and open it with pcreator. select the group you just added from the group selector up the top. now sometimes the .3ds already comes with a UV, so you wont need to import one. but if for some reason it doesn't come with a UV map, you gotta import one with the "import UV" button, which you can export with 3dsmax, and i'm guessing blender too. once that's done, choose the open bitmap option and find your texture. for battle models, go to options and tick battle model. then hit the "texture file(s)" button. you're almost ready to export now. if the textures look flipped, go into UV Coords and flip 'em back. then hit save as when you're done. The buster sword's battle model is named "rtck" with no filetype, and if you hit "texture file(s)", the Textures should convert to FF7 format along with the model. then all you gotta do is repack the battle archive with the new files, and you're away. when you download apz' buster sword (not sure about his custom cloud model), you get a pretty good tutorial on how to do this, so it shouldn't be a problem. hope that helps :D

I would contact Vaishino, He is remaking all the characters in the game, I'm sure if you remade just the weapons or 3d field objects he'd be happy since he's got a lot ot do on his plate.

How do I get things like the scale and positioning right? What do I do with the .tex file? How do I know I'm even doing this whole process right, lol.

oh, oh, oh, i forgot. get the program kimera, by borde. (also on the wiki) that way you can get scale an positioning perfect. just import the model over the old one, and when you line it up right, delete the old one. it should make sense once you mess with the program for a few minutes. oh, and the .tex just goes into the lgp without it's filetype and with a name similar to the other texures of that character. (maybe call it RTAE or something). from what i can remember it should work fine then.

Very nice texture work and weapon graphic, i noticed you cant model characters but hey im already doing that ahaha but the weapon is very nicely done. Nice work would love to see a redone ultima weapon or masamune.

It's very good, very very good. Except that it doesn't look like the buster sword in Advent Children and Crisis Core.
But on the artistic side, it's very good. It would be great if you model the other weapons.
I bet you'll be able to create a very beautiful Hard Edge.

Yeah, I didn't even try to recreate the AC/CC ones, we've seen enough of those already :P
I figured I'd rather try the plain old one, I happen to like it more as well.
Not sure what I'll do next, probably the Hardedge or Mythril Saber (or w/e the second weapon for Cloud was)

Can somebody walk me through the process over MSN/Xfire/Skype/Steam chat, or alternatively volunteer to convert models for me so I can focus on the artsy stuff? Any help is welcome :-D
PS. I saw somebody post all the FF7 weapon concept images a while ago (perhaps from the bonus CD?), if somebody has them, they'd help a LOT.

It's REALLY COOL work! But i think you have to change his face a little!
I think his eyes need to be smaller and not so far from nose;
more beard;

No worries, i'm the one that requested that millenia texture my models... cuz i'm a terrible texture artist. the beard n eyes are actually placed to match (more or less) the original ingame model, which in turn was based on nomura art. texturing is slow, but soon enough you'll all see this ingame :P :D:D:D

It is quite a good weapon.
The textures are remarkable.
However, I do criticize, if you are trying to make it close to the original, the barrel of the gun is far too long, and too narrow.
In the original it is more compact and wide.
What you have done, is amazing, just not to the original.
I am not trying to be mean, I am just saying what my eyes see.

nice man, however as sightless seer said, it needs to be shorter, i know you're designinng weapons slightly different to the original design, but this is just a matter of animation : big shot and things of the like will be charging up inside the gun if its that long, the entire gun shouldnt be much longer than the stub portion.

If you and him did a joint effort with models/weapons and textures the game would become seamless :-D
Amazing Barret by the way. and yes the gun seems a little long (for the field model) but for battle, i'm not sure.

I wont push anyone away i wanted apz to pitch with me but i wont leave mil out ether if he can do weapons and apzs can texture my models then we will have a nice collective work but as of right now i have no definant answers form anyone which puts me in the position to ether abandon my project or try to do it alone :(.

Well I plan on doing all of the weapons, and possibly all of the characters too. Currently, as you know, I'm working on timu sumisu's stuff (and my own), but if you have some nice models he hasn't done I'll probably texture them at some point.

i dont think he's started the arm. Im against the disc for two reasons.
1. the purpose of something like that is to keep the barrels controlled for better shooting.... doest really fit barret, hes more the lets shoot n blow everything up type.
2. not the original design :P

But, as I said before, if you want to make it to the original, you will go without.
But, again, I must say, I am baffled by your sheer skill at how you make your textures.

I can't really decide but if I had to vote - no disc. (Although it looks cool, ingame I don't think you'd see it up close that often, in which case I think it'd look better without the disc).

You don't see the character's eyes a lot either... So why are people saying about the eyes being too close/far from the nose? Still, great job.

First, though your gun does look good, it doesn't look like any of Vincent's guns (refer to page 1 of this thread)
Second, unless I'm mistaken, I think Aali is working on a way to implement lighting into the game. Meaning there would be no reason for baking

FF7 does per-vertex software lighting to *most* 3D objects in the game. You should not pre-light your models if FF7 does it for you. NPCRP has some issues with this that makes models look all dark because they're lit twice. (And when the static pre-lighting clashes with FF7's dynamic lighting because the static lighting doesn't change with the movement of the character you get even worse results)

I know, that's why the lighting on barret so far (and the gatling gun) is painted on. The render scene doesn't have any lighting, so what you see is what you get :P

im going to have to say disc for 2 reasons,
1. The disk does have a nice visual effect to it.
2. even though he is shooting for original same as i you have to add something new just a llittle to make the model ur own and distinguished from any other model.
So i say disc

The purpose of the disc is to prevent barrel sway when rotating at extremely high speeds (increase accuracy). However, since the barrels are clearly short and probably cannot rotate all that fast, I suppose disc-less is fine

every1 wants to stick to original nowadays... well how about if we tried something diff! u no? make it unique! original looks awesome dont get me wrong, but the disc makes it look more unique and its something totally diff than wut ppl want which is exactly wut i like! surprises are always good and "whats new can't always hurt you" you know wut i mean?

No, photos are for newbies - my textures are 100% handpainted in Photoshop :-D

Are your textures in 256 color? Because i know pcreater only takes 256 color and up to 512x512 textures.

Well it'd be pretty dumb to WORK in 256 colours, I'll obviously change it when converting :P
I know how to, I used to work a lot with the HL1 engine which had the same limitations.

Your modeling is good, but your texturing is absolutely amazing! Please tell me your secrets, you can't just be handpainting them. You must be using some filters and bake highlights and stuff too right? :-o
Lol, what makes you think some automated things like baking and filters would be better than manually placing all the highlights, scratches and details? :lol:

That's because, in PCreator, you save the model in Battle-mode (Options>Battle model). You resize that first in your 3D program right?, then, save the model in Field mode (Options>Field model). If you resize the models in your 3d program, you should convert to FFVII format with PCreator in Field mode, because the battle model make a model size x10. I only use Battle mode for apply extra slots of textures to the **aa files. try that and I hope that works :wink:

Import both his original gun and the one you want to replace it with and resize your new one appropriately. You could also just open it in Kimera and resize it significantly

I approve of this post.
Can't wait to see a brand new Barret model in battle. And Red XIII is being done, the other characters can be imported from other games, so we only have Cait Sith to do...

jeez i leave for a day and what do you do? finish everything! :P i'm about to start tweaking the uv map so you'll need to make a few adjustments, but i doubt it'll take you long to fix barret up. only crit i have is that the tattoo is a little too glowy. tattoos usually have fairly faded colors, not borderline neon :P. I'll email ya the mesh when i get a chance.

another thing to fix is his boots, they're solidly covered with a texture right now, but not in the concept art there is a seam going over the front of the boot

I feel the need to join in the chorus of for the Barret texture and the Mythril Sabre (and I'm pleased to hear that you're a fan of the traditional designs :wink: )
But I must agree with timu sumisu about the tattoo on Barret's arm; needs to be dark and faded :-P

Yeah I'll have to mess with the texture when I get around to it but I dunno how easy it'd be to make that seam on the boot, since, ironically, the huge seam on the UV map makes it a lot harder :P

his eyes aren't angry anime-y enough.

Oh and it seems in his initial character design he wore dogtags, go figure.

I hate to have this be my first post in the topic and sound like a douche, but my curiosity is getting the better of me. Are the holes in the buster sword intended to be off-center for some reason? The buster sword is supposed to have them directly in the middle of the blade, right above the handle. This is otherwise the definitive model IMO as it stays true to the original instead of the Crisis Core/PS3 Demo remodel. Kudos for going that route, I agree 100% - the nuts-and-bolts style of the original is superior to the newer stuff.

its because the stub also has a portion of his arm, which is textured from the skin/barret texture, and one object cant access 2 textures.so either add some skin on the gatling or move the stub over, nehow i'll talk to u soon, as there are a few other changes to be made, gratz on the swords!

Actually, if you make it into 2 groups, i THINK you can tell each group to reference a different texture. i could be wrong though.

No worries, I was just curious. It's a pretty common mistake I see in a lot of mods, in fact I did the same thing the first time I drew it since I drew it completely from memory.
New swords are looking crisp, good stuff. I'm interested to see your take on Ultima Weapon now. :-)

It's supposed to read "ittouroudan" (一刀両æ–) which is Japanese for "cutting in two with a single stroke" Here's a nice high-resolution version of the characters on it.

The uvmap is mirrored so they'll automatically be on both sides :/
And I think the reason they seem to be mirrored is because the sword is in fact upside down in the render (unless you already took this into account)

Yea, that kanji is reversed in the top, you may just have to make a separate mapping for the other side.

Caveat: you will want, probably need to, use Aali's driver with these babies (not that you wouldn't want to anyway!) - the 4 swords are on a single, 24-bit 1024x1024 texture.

Decompile your battle.LPG into a new folder using Ficedula's LGP tools program, then put the files you downloaded into the folder then when it asks you to overwrite the files say yes. Then create a new LGP called battle (if you deleted the older LGP) or call it battle2 then rename the older one to something else to battle BAK, and rename the battle2 to battle.
Then it should work.

To all of you that downloaded the first 4 swords, you might want to download it again - Borde just released a new version of Kimera with weapon support, which means I was able to position the swords way better. Now they're pretty much placed as well in his hands as possible.

Argh, as awesome as these are and as much as I'm in love with them it seems that the textures aren't showing up in battle. The models are definitely replaced, but the textures are just solid white. I'd assume that using aali's driver the textures would go into the texture folder in the directory but without any textures to put it there... :roll:

You need to use a custom cloud with one texture and 10 slots; apz's recommended.
The textures go with the models straight into the lgp (the file is called rtad, if I remember correctly) - if you have a proper Cloud and Aali's driver it should just immediately work.

It seems that the models are on the smaller files and the textures are in rtad.
I'm trying to get your models to work with apz's buster sword model but since the files are grouped that way I can't seem to find a solution.
Not to say I don't love your texture job, the detail is amazing. It's just that I watched Advent Children for the first time last night (in it's own righteous nerdom, it had some moments and good music) and the clips of the old buster sword compared with apz's model make it seem like his was modeled after that rendition. I like that, but I also really like your other models.

Any ideas why I can't get the swords to display the texture in the game? I'm using APZ buster and texture.. so that means RTAC and RTAD are already taken up.
I've renamed the RTAD that is included with this pack to RTAE, converted the RTCL-RTCN to .3ds, imported them into PCreator and changed their texture ID to 2 (even tried 3).
I replaced the original swords with them, opened rtaa in kimera and all the swords are still white. (RTAA is set to use 10 textures)
If I rename Millenia's RTAD to RTAE.tex and try to 'add texture' in Kimera, I get "error 5".
What gives? I can't even extract the texture using Biturn...

You can't use Biturn because the texture is converted with that Img2tex thingamajigger thus it's 24-bit which Biturn doesn't understand.
I have no idea why your approach is not working, then again I didn't really think that anybody would want to use some OTHER sword besides mine and still have the others :P
(Although this was inevitable if I am to replace all of the weapons eventually - not enough texture slots.)

Can you recheck your upload just to verify it? Any textures I've made that are 24bit, when I view them with biturn it displays as a translucent rainbow color and, I can also extract them and it becomes a small 40x40 rainbow colored .bmp.
Also, I think your buster sword is really good, but after playing Crisis Core, I like to stick to that look :-) Hell, I would even be up for combining APZ texture with yours, so I only have to use RTAD. I just can't extract the damn thing...
Just tested with unaltered files... Using the original apz cloud, and extracting everything you provided in place of those files, the swords still turn up white and I get an error opening rtaa

Oh yea, Organics... I forgot that's what the call it in the original release. I renamed it to Ogrenix because the way I remember it, Organics was a mis-translation of Ogrenix, and I though Ogrenix sounded cooler :P

That Heaven's Cloud is epic looking, and that was the weapon i was looking forward to you making most. ^_^
But, i have a slight complaint about the Organics, the lighter green side of it, it seems to be too much of a contrast to the other side.
But its your model, you can do whatever you want with it. :wink:

IIRC (and I do), the model was made by Timu and the texture was made by Millenia. I can't remember with confidence who took care of the official "release", but I think it was Timu.
Come to think of it, there were quite a few other character battle models in the works... :P

Well, I've read that someone else managed it with a custom version of the Dissidia Ultima Weapon they put in here. I think it was slayers. So it has to be possible.

I'm actually voting more Dissidia. The FF7 version just seemed too bulky to be useful. Even more so than the Buster Sword or any other weapons Cloud used.

I would ask please, because it looks more possible for Cloud to cut something with that than the original Ultima. The one from 7 looks like a big semi-pointy piece of plastic...
Side note: I should go play Dissidia, it's been a while since I took Terra out and knocked Sephiroth to his knees.

I always thought that it and Force Stealer looked kinda strange and a little clunky. Pfft, we don't even know that these weapons are supposed to be made of (for the most part). For all we know, Ultima weapon could be made out of some ultra-light material that's easy to swing around. And I think it's pretty clear that either people in FF7 are stronger than humans on Earth or that gravity is weaker on their planet (which would make sense, since their planet is small). I don't see anything wrong with the original, huge Ultima weapon.

For the most part, most people in ff7 are actually quite normal in terms of strength. the exceptions of course are those in SOLDIER. Additionally, any characters with limit breaks involving jumping to rediculous heights *glares at tifa and cid*

But we don't get to see that many people exert themselves. When they do, they tend to be able to use weapons that you wouldn't think they'd be able to use, throw people great distances and jump very high. Hell, remember at the start of the game when Barret punches Biggs and Biggs hits the ceiling? ;D

On the topic of the ultlima weapon, i spoke to slayersnext n apparently the blue coloring of the ultima weapon according to hp acts like the poison glow. So yea (i dont play much with this stuff). if textured models can glow with poison, then the ultima weapon glow will work.

I think he looks a bit odd, but that might just be because one is used to seeing him holding a ginormous sword rather than a small one like those two katanas.

I agree with obese. there isn't a lot you can do with small swords besides going into great detail on small things that wont ever be seen in the game. Basically it would be pointless to try any harder than that with the Yoshi and the Murasame, because any further work would go unnoticed.

What impresses me most about these weapons is your ability to make such good metal textures, which are one of the harder textures to get to look... metallic. XD

I think a certain level artistic freedom is acceptable seeing as the Level of Detail even on the concept art is rather low as the images are tiny, But agreed, original is better

I don't mind the artistic license on the spikes, and in fact think the whole sword is very well done. But what made the Ultima Weapon the Ultima Weapon was its translucence.

I don't really care too much about minor deviations...the man's free to deviate as much as he wants, he's the texturer! I will admit, however, that I'd prefer an Ultima Weapon that preserves it's look-and-feel. The translucence of the Ultima Weapon made it seem as if it were made of some sort of supernatural material, and I'd prefer as much as possible to maintain that feel, if not the translucence outright.

I actually really like Millenia's take on the Ultima Weapon. It reminds me more of the actual enemy Ultima Weapon (Spikes, Darker colour etc.), which is, I think, what it's supposed to remind you of, since IIRC it's the prize you get for killing it.

A compromise perhaps. He could take the blue in the middle of the blade and make it the translucent crystal while having the outer edge remain metal. That way the "core" of the blade would appear to be forged out of a materia type substance.

Many a people may not like the Ultima Weapon as much as they should, I for one have got to say that it looks awesome.
Although it is off that the weapon won't be able to alter colors based on the stats, but still, overall the design of it is simply magnificent.
Can't wait for these to be on release.

If you couldn't figure out how to do it good with a transparent texture, you could always get rid of the texture in the red part and have it vector colored so that way you could keep the nice
metal look while still having the inside look crystal-like.
But im sure you'll figure it out. :-)

Biturn doesnt recognize the files as texture/models... the models show fine in kimera though but maybe the texture file needs to be reconverted or something.

i don't think u want screen shots. all the weapons i've tried are white. since the texture don't work , but they're shaped nicely. got a few other things going on but i'll see if i might be able to get them to show nicely in game. ,

Biturn doesn't like new .tex's created with IMG2TEX, the textures are fine.

what programs did you use to create the .tex file? Try using Image2tex or Pcreator to create the texture because only those work ;)
Oh, and don't forget to use Pcreator, open the **aa file and set the number of texture files that the model is going to use :)

The problem is that Aali's driver finds a bad vertex in the models. I wonder if it's really aproblem with the texture though since the first four worked fine. I'm still pretyy drunk right now though so someone else needs to test if an older version of the driver will work with them. Also the picture is way too big make it like 1024 instead of 2048 and maybe it will work. I'll test tomorrow night or so

Actually, the problem was Kimera's newest version - it creates broken models. Using Pcreator solves the problem. I'll reconvert em and release in a few..

Amazing job Millenia!!! Its so impressive I can't really say anything, but the one thing that bugs me is the off-center materia slots on the buster sword. Not sure if this is an easy fix or what, but other than that - brilliant

Clouds texture files are rtac and rtad. Originally rtac is used for the eye(s) and belt and rtad for the mouth. Apz uses rtac for the whole cloud model texture and Millenia uses rtad for all the swords textures. Thats why both can be used at the same time without overwriting textures. Maybe Millenia forgot to add clouds mouth texture in rtad aswell.

It depends if they use the same name for the texture file. If they do you would have overwritten it.

You have to remove Millenia's Buster sword if you want to use APZ's texture.
Reason being APZ textured the original low poly buster while millenia made a whole new model.

Well what happens is, if I install all of Millenia's files except rtck, which I use APZ's for, Millenia's swords look fine, but the Buster's texture is a garbled mess.
If I have Millenia's files except both rtck and rtad, then the Buster looks right, but Millenia's swords all look wrong.
So I'm guessing it's all or nothing, huh?

I was just randomly throwing stuff to see if the textures were on them as well, but it seems as if they are not (i even threw a weapon that i had equipped, that was obviously using the new textures but the thrown weapon had the older version).
just throwing it out there, not sure if this was known or not already.
Edit: i think they ARE the updated models, but i dont think throw uses the same textures, as the colors and such are off when thrown (maybe they use a different set of textures/change the coloring on the current textures?)

If you want to use APZ's sword with my other ones, you'd have to edit his model (rtck) to use the third texture slot (rtae) instead of the second one (rtad).

I didnt actually realize that Millenia was apart of Team Avalanche (also does anyone know if these is a member list of their team anywhere since i dont actually recall seeing one), Oh well i know now for future reference so thanks.
And sl1982 great + fast work on the installer, it also worked on linux with wine (my old version of wine had a problem installing it due to the fullstop your installer adds to the ff7 path but on newer versions of wine this didnt seem to be a problem)

Maybe try changing the texture ID of the buster sword and assign the texture that way.

Hey guys, I've installed Millenia's weapons using slr1982's installer, but I want to replace Millenia's Ultima Weapon with the First Tsurugi from Kula Wende's AC Cloud...
I've used LGPTools and replaced the rtae and rtcz files in the battle.lgp with the ones from the AC Cloud files, but it hasn't changed the model or texture of the weapon in game... Millenia's Ultima Weapon is still there...
Anyone have any ideas on anything else I can/I need to do?

I did try renaming the rtae file from the AC Cloud model's files to rtcz and then replacing using the method above and still no effect.

If you have aali's custom driver you will have it in the main folder. I have it here "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\cache". Just delete the files inside it and restart the game again and try if it works. :)

Remember that in addition to renaming the texture file you also need to change the model to use that ;)

EDIT: Finally got it to work... I extracted the files from the updated LGP and replaced the files that wouldn't extract with ones from the original LGP on the CD, and then copied and pasted the First Tsurugi files into that and repacked it. Thanks for all the tips guys, keep up the good work!!! :D

Millenia, all thrown weapons are in the magic.lgp, so they need to be changed there as well.
IIRC, Cloud's thrown weapons are called 'h_sword1' to 'h_sword15'.

Looks sweet as usual. I wonder how many of these new models and textures could be reinserted on the PlayStation version of FF7? Of course, with remodeled meshes and shrunk textures to fit hardware limits.

not a whole lot :P the model files are quite large compared to the orginals, bout 2 or 3 times, same with the textures. (i suppose the textures could get shrunk pretty small) but I'd love to see someone try it out.

And with models the bigger problem over file size would be the poly count.

That's why I was talking about remodeling. Using low-poly stuff would probably solve the issue. My biggest concern is, however, making textures fit in a given region of vram. FF7 doesn't seem to have that many empty slots for extra images in memory.

Maybe I'm a little behind in the times, but I found another reason for the white textures.
Again, maybe you all already know this, but if you try to use Dreakon's higher quality cloud mod with this, it causes the white textures. I tested it by using a fresh battle.lpg, then adding your weapon texture mod--everything works flawlessly. But if I then apply Dreakon's cloud mod, the white textures are back.
Now I have to decide which I like more. So I'm guessing you have to use an unmodded cloud or APZ cloud to use this pack?
EDIT: And while I'm at it, I had a quick question. Which files are for Cloud's Buster Sword and his Ultimate Weapon? I liked to replace the UW with the Buster Sword on the PSX just because the BS is his iconic weapon and the UW is too--garish. Would I be able to just copy the Buster Sword's file and rename it over the UW to accomplish this? Or is it more involved?

Yeah for some reason modded clouds fuck it up, I have no idea why or how to fix it D:
And the buster sword's model file is "rtck" and the ultima weapon is "rtcz". At least in the PC version - if you want to do it for PSX they might be different, dunno. At least for the PC just copying rtck and renaming that rtcz would work, the model files are very simple and do not contain anything that would possibly mess it up.

You may want to change your first post to warn people which Cloud models work and which don't. It was really just dumb luck I figured it out myself, and I've noticed other people having the same problem.
Oh and thanks for all your great work! This is my first time using the PC version, so I'm really loving all these mods. Wish I had the ability to do some of my own.

They work fine with Apz and Kula's Cloud models and even that other Cloud model that shall not be named for legal reasons.

Maybe but...I don't use the openGL mod--I'm still using the Saint's high res mod--Aali's openGL patch is too buggy for me, it crashes on my home computer at the start, and when I get it working here I have to turn it off because it can't play wind.wav, or whatever. The high res mod is much more stable (for me).
That said, as I don't use aali's driver and I'm still having the white texture problem with certain clouds and not others...i dunno.

Is there any possible way I can jerry-rig this onto my PSX version?
I don't think no one has come up of a way to change the models in the PSX version.. Though I'm not sure, I don't touch my PSX version and it's pretty complicated to me with all the hex editing.

Should be very possible, but I need further investigation before I can confirm this. Not sure how the game behaves when it needs to allocate enemy textures and where they would be stored in VRAM. Same applies to weapons.

Ah, down syndrome Cloud. It's a little risky but it just might catch on ;)
Maybe make the eyes less angry and push them apart a little. Also make the nose skinnier. But do keep in mind I'm talking out of my ass and these suggestions may make it look worse

I agree with everything that's been said. The eyes look good but need more space in between. The mouth is, well, that needs work. The nose is not quite right either. The hair looks good though!

You made it to work on the PSX version?? That's considered genius for me!! Do you know how to rotate the sword in Cloud's hand?? If you've done that the sword looks good. :-)

The sword that Millenia gave me was rotated differently than the original model. I guess it's one of the differences between PSX and PC, more or less like the PC uses float values for vertexes and uv coordinates, while they're integers on the PSX. The next step is fixing Cloud's eyes and mouth, and loading data for weapons from external files.

File size is not an issue, at all. Using external hi-color textures for each weapon and mapping them correctly to a model are the real issues (but Millenia solved the second one for me here). Currently I'm using a 128x128 texture with 128 colors for the weapon, and there could be a second one 128x128 texture for the character. Unfortunately VRAM is organized in a manner that allows only 224 vertical lines in total, so a second texture would have to use less vertical space. Consequently, the smaller texture would have to use a 128x96 resolution or less to fit in the given space.
The work done so far takes an 3DS model as input, converts it to the "battle .p" format, and replaces the texture segment with another TIM picture. Only weapons are supported so far, as I haven't coded yet any routines to convert multiple 3DS objects and joints+skeleton structures. If I can get my hands on more stuff, like a textured version of the original Cloud, I'll try and expand the conversion code to make it sparkle.
Back to texturing: the plan is to add support for separate weapon models+textures as a separate file, like I suppose FF8/9 do, unless routines to do so are already there and I didn't notice (could be, like for those spells loading data as requested). This change should make character models slightly smaller (Cloud's is 43,4 KB smaller without the weapons) and retain fast loading times.
Interesting fact: there's room for an extra palette (max is three), which means that a texture could use two palettes and make full use of 256 colors with a simple swap trick.

Yup yup. I haven't done anything that is illegal on real hardware, so it should work flawlessly.

Any chance of making how you did this public? Like a converting to the battle model format? Im shocked you managed this so quickly and easily but you really are the playstation god, If it really is possible to mod the psx version (which it now is) I might just continue my PSX project which I thought was pointless because of all the incredible stuff been done with the PC version now. ILL try get you the orginal CLoud model I managed it once before.

newbie question here - what with all these Clouds floating around, and a good Barret is anyone working on making a (legal) Tifa, Aeris/th, Vincent, Cid, Yuffie, Caith Sith etc?
I'm happy with APZ's cloud & Timu Sumisu & Millenia's Barret as is, but they are in start contrast to the rest of the gang!

That's all that's done so far. I think someone's working on Tifa, and another on Cait Sith, but nothing that's ready for release yet.
Personally, I would look for the remix patch which had most every useful patch all together in one installer. It has all kinds of cool things for FFVII.

I believe Cloud's weapons are done. They're still working on others. The weapon mod should come with the Remix Patch.
Also, if you want to ask a question, if you can't find a thread on it, then make a new topic in either Tech Support (I believe for help with problems getting the game to work) General (for most other questions) Completely Unrelated (if it has nothing to do with Final Fantasy) or one of the bottom three forums (Team Avalanche, q-gears, and FF7Voice, if your question applies to those topics.)

I can't quite understand what you're saying, but this project is only partly related to the bombing mission. The Cloud and Barret models, as well as both character's first weapons, will be used as part of the bombing mission project, but all of the other models are separate.

There's no reason to release the Vincent weapon models with the Bombing Mission mod, especially as Vincent isn't in that part of the game. I can't speak for Millenia, but I'm almost certain he'd just release them as soon as they were ready.

Oooooh noooo haha, believe me, I try a lot but I am trash with kimera, I tryed to convert apz cloud model to field but I can't. Well, what I mean MILLENIA, is that if you can do that model for high res field too, that will be good, if not, that okay too and GREAT work, :P.

When Barret is hit with a status change that would cause him to glow (like berserk, regen, poison, etc) he doesn't glow, only his weapon does. I don't know if it's specifically me, or if it happens to everyone. I don't really mind, but I thought I should mention it to you good people.

I see that you are baking the textures, that is in my opinion almost cheating :p You just generate the textures, the models aren't overly complicated either. But it does look very good ;)

I've only used it for a couple of things in this thread anyways. For some things I didn't even bake an AO overlay.

I would love to give it a shot myself but unfortunately I have no idea how to get to the model itself to actually recolor it. When I get to the file from opening the battle lgp what can I do from there? I'm really sorry i understand this is a basic question but I have never done anything like this before.

Those models aren't really colored like standard weapons, but textured so you'll need some skill and/or more advanced graphic program, depending how much you wanna edit it.
Use program like img2tex to convert "rtad" which is texture file into bmp, edit as you wish then save and convert back to tex file. You'll need to edit it's name and cut .tex which is added after conversion before you put it back to your battle.lgp.

Thank you both Millenia and Miseru for helping me understand how to change the textures. I am proud to say I actually got it in game on my own lol. I know its not nearly as good as Millenias because I have no experience at all and I was using a terrible photo editing program but I am just happy enough I got my buster sword in game and looking a little more like the original. I just really wish I could be able to center the two holes and then it would be perfect but I still have no idea what that whole U/V mapping thing or even modeling at all.

Ummm... I totally forgot about this... But, on the original cover art for FF7, did you all realize the original Buster Sword had those veiny lines on it...?

Those look like scratches to me and not actual detail like in the crisis core one. They look kinda silly anyways, being so random and prominent :P

Haha, yeah I understand as much. Just wondering if anyone else had noticed them, and if you've ever even taken it into (though I highly doubt) consideration of making that exact replica for showmanship or kicks. XD

I always found those lines to be reminicsent of wood , or rock that has been ground flat. I'm curious millenia, given all this buster sword business, do you plan on remaking yours to some degree? i had messed with the mesh and uvs just a bit to make it kinda like what you have, but likely you could do better :P

I don't have the 3dsmax compatible format I didn't create the model. I just used img2tex to open up Millenias textures and then changed it up a bit.

There's no real reason to. The models are for use in the game, and if you're dead set on getting them into a modelling suite for whatever reason, there are many tools avalable to convert between usable formats and the FF7 model format.

but if I download the file on the main page, it only descripts the files as "files", with no extension. the main page of qhimm has no such tools.

Hello, love the mod and really want to use it but whenever i install it i start getting a weird graphical glitch, clouds lips turn black (in the battle screen) and becomes pixelated and strange, like a texture is missing or something. Is anyone else having this issue?

I also have this issue. So fix to my knowledge. I think it's something to do with how many textures Millena is using for the weapons (there is sadly a limit) but don't quote me on that.

There is a good chance he overwrote the original texture with one for the weapon and it is loading a weapon texture for his mouth.

That is the cause of the issue. Millenia's swords all use one texture rtad and the sword models all have a texture id of 1. The cloud your using has rtac and rtad so you need to change the sword textures to rtae and all the sword models texture ids need to be set to 2 in pcreator, or just use APZ's cloud then add Millenia's Swords.

I thought that might be the case.. oh well i fixed it now, just installed the custom cloud models overtop, works fine with that. Thanks guys
edit: also, do you guys know if millenia has released any of the other weapon/battle char models yet? they look fantastic but i cant find a download link

ok so i have managed to make the texture work. another problem. whenever a battle starts, this red little message comes up "ERROR: could no open file Cloud. T09" ... any fix to this? of is there a way to turn of the message? :-(

So Millenia any new weapons or is the Cloud Mod complete. Wondering if anyting new has been done love looking at the finished work. Can't play any of it yet but I love looking at it.

Millenia, for me, you are one of the best modders ! With Timu Simusu (sorry if I didn't correctly write his nickname : never remember the correct way to write it :S ) etc .... Realy hope to see you back here with more stuff one day !

So its impossible to us 3 sword mods? (Apz buster sword/cutom ac cloud's fusion sword/this mods ultima weapon?
I basicalle used the fusion sword as the omega weapon and replaced ragnarok with the original ultima weapon so I could use both but I didn't realize there was a texture issue.
