Ok guys, I am making this FAQ because there are some questions that are coming up more then once and an easy spot for answers to them would be a good idea.

Q: Where can I find the latest releases from Team Avalanche

Q: The installer says I don't have Aali's driver installed but I do! How can I install Team Avalanche's Overhaul?

A: Run the FF7config.exe included with Aali's driver before attempting to install the overhaul. Make sure to run as administrator.

Q: Help! All I see is 'External Texture.' How do I fix this?

A: Aali's driver is not installed or not working correctly. To download Aali's driver go here: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8306.0

Q: Why are things so much slower now? How can I speed things up?

A: This is normal as the game has to load much more data. One way to speed things up a bit is to turn on the cache in Aali's driver. To turn
   this on open ff7opengl.cfg and change compress_textures from no to yes. If your game is still running slow you will have to live with it or
   upgrate your system.

Q: Things look great but we want full sized models instead of chibi. Can you make some?

A: Nope, look elsewhere.

Q: I would like to help. What would you like me to do?

A: Well there are many things to be done. Depending on what you are good at, check out the latest project and see if there is anything you would be interested
   in doing.

Q: Is the Team Avalanche project similar to the ill-fated Chrono-Trigger resurrection?

No. The Team Avalanche graphical Overhaul is a mod which runs on a legally acquired copy of Final Fantasy VII, like any other mod from this forum. It is not a standalone application. Team Avalanche's graphical overhaul may be considered as a High-res texture patch. All models and textures used in this project are made in house and/or used with permission.

Hey guys does anyone know what the .s files in the magic.lgp do. They seem to be files tied to related to the texture files but I am not sure. Perhaps the animation for the texture? Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Hey everyone out there. I have been looking at the wiki on the tex format http://wiki.qhimm.com/FF7/TEX_format and i am unclear on something. Does the tex file if it has multiple palettes contain all the different palletes? Or does the ff7 executable contain the different palette tables hardcoded in it? I am trying to figure out a way that i can see all the different palettes as it will help immensely with the overhaul.

Team Avalanche / New Project: Bombing Mission!

Hey guys timu came up with what i think is a good idea. He suggested that we all work on one area of the game. Mainly the first reactor mission. If everyone is on board with this it would be a great thing to do to get more people interested in the project. There are many things to do so there should be something that everyone is good at.

Things to do:
-field backgrounds (i plan on modelling the 1st reactor scene)
-battle backgrounds (anyone up for this?)
-redone battle models, including main characters and enemies (neo has a couple done, need texture)
-redone npc's like jessie and wedge
-enemy battle effects (i can most likely take care of these)

If anyone thinks of anything else let me know and ill add it. Hopefully we can get the whole section done and then release a demo of sorts.

Regarding style, we are trying to stay true to the original feel of the game. Following is a quick list of concepts to keep in mind when working on any game assets:
  • Anime style characters
  • Chibi scale field models
  • Full scale battle models
  • Mainting proportions of original models
  • If you're not sure about something style-wise, ask SL1982 or Timu Sumisu
  • Expected Poly counts for characters/enemies : generally 4000-6000 tris
  • Prerendered background resolution : (to be decided) 4 or 5 times the resolution of the original image

Hey guys I need to know what resolution you guys normally play in. I have found that if people run in 1280x960 or less I can tweak things to make it look much better for them. For people running a higher resolution then this the work I have already done looks the best at that resolution. So what res do you guys run in?

Hey guys i need your help testing out the new installer for the avalanche overhaul.

If you install it and then decide you wish to use an optional component instead just redo the installation and only select the component u wish and it will change the files for that component (eg. color vs alternate world map)

Please post any problems in this topic.

Note: The installer checks if you have aali's driver installed and configured. If it isnt it will tell you and not allow any further progress.
         The install image and license agreement are just defaults for now. Ignore them

Hey guys, if you have been around this forum for any length of time you may know me as the project co-ordinator of Team Avalanche's Graphical overhaul. As you may have also noticed that our mod has expanded from its original intent. Going from a font upgrade to a full graphical overhaul is a massive undertaking to say the least. So I am putting out a casting call for all you lovers of the game. We need your help to do this. Us few members cannot possibly do it alone. So if anyone out there is willing to help there are many things to do. If you are a modeller, a texturer or a graphic artist we can use your skills. PM me if you are interested. But be aware there are guidelines that need to be followed.

1. We are attempting to keep as close to the original game as possible, this is a graphical update only.
2. There is a minimum standard that we will hold all work to. If we find that a submission is inadequate then you may be asked to tweak or redo the work. Or we may also make changes ourselves.
3. Anyone who submits work will be considered part of Team Avalanche and will be part of any discussions on graphical styles. But remember it is a democracy, if something is a majority you must accept it. We need no fighting amongst team members. (Head designers do carry veto power though :P)

So if this is something you are interested in joining we would love to have you. Lets put all our skills together to make ff7 the best it can possibly be!

Hey guys ive been tearing out my hair here trying to figure this out. Does anyone know what the percentage is that Odin will use the gunge lance? I really need to trigger this summon so i can figure out the textures for it, but I tried it like 50 times in a row and nothing. Any ideas?

Ok so i was bored and decided to goof with the textures in the battle. I tossed in a nice massive 2048x2048 ground texture i found on the net to see what would happen and it worked. It was then that i noticed that the lighting in the game is crap. Is this something we can fix? Anyways check out the screen

Well im hijacking my first post here to tell you guys that im releasing sl1982's Font Mod v0.1

Some things had to change for this release:

Shadows caused graphical glitches so the were removed
Numbers for the clock and the hp/mp bars are not modified in this release.

Instructions:

1. Download file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8UVXP4UY
2. Extract files from archive
3. Locate menu_us.lgp and extract them using your favorite LGP program into a folder
4. Copy the two .tex files from the downloaded file into the folder you extracted menu_us.lgp into
5. If it asks to overwrite select yes
6. Create a new menu_us.lgp file from this folder
7. Copy the new file back into the original location.
8. Copy all files in textures into the textures folder in your FF7 folder (if you dont have this folder you either dont have Aali's custom driver, or an old version of it)

old post: Hey guys I've been lurking here for about a month and thought i would try to contribute something to the community. Since im not a modeller or a texturer i figured i would see if i could tackle something else. My idea was to try to make the menu's high res. So my question for anyone that may know, I have not found any menu stuff in the menu_us.lgp other then text and avatars. Are the background menus textures like everything else, or are they dynamically generated?
