Title: Yamaha SoftSynth PVL-SYXG100 SoftSynthesizer FOUND!
Post by: Afrotronics on 2004-03-09 15:18:26
Yo everbody I found the discontinued Yamaha S-YXG-100plus PVL SoftSynth.  This was by far one of the most advanced softsynth ever made.  It had AMD-compatible VL plugin support (which is a big plus for all of us economy concious gamers). VL instruments are instruments that have parameters such as embachure, breath speed, tounging/plucking velocity and all that other cool stuff. It also supported 8, yes 8, VL instruments simultaneously (as compared to 1 with the original softsynth).  I also found the discontinued Singing SoftSynth (SYXG-100 SG) that had the different japanese vocal sounds like (chi, no, se...etc).  With these Synths the realism of the music in the game can be increased somewhat.  If anybody's interested to start FFVIII VL project I would be more than delighted to help out.

Hi!

Why was this program discontinued in the first place? I'm happy that you found it, though! Judging by your excitement I'm guessing it took you a while to find!

So... could you provide a link to where it is? Is it supported by XP?  :-?

I'm not sure if it's still supported by XP.  I'm doubting it is though since Yamaha made a separate version of the XG-50 for XP/NT only.  I think Yamaha discontinued it because it can do all of the things that it's hardware model can do but it cost $510 USD less. I'm not sure if I can legally put links up for it ;-).
Title: Stupid company...

Hi!

I don't really like Yamaha anymore. Whenever they bring out a newer software synth they discontinue it after about a week! Their software is FULL of spelling errors!  -_-

Isn't there any other software synth players anywhere? I'm sure that Yamaha aren't the only company to do it, are they?  :-?

You misspelled "their."  Or rather, misused?

Anyway...

Discontinued after about a week?  I bought version 4 of the S-YXG50 about a year and a half ago, and previous versions date back to before FF7 was released.  It was only discontinued recently... within the last week, I believe.

The only other "software synths" I know of are Microsoft's (usually using the GM.DLS) and QuickTime's (which I don't think you can use outside of QuickTime).  You could lay down some money on an XG-capable sound card.

There are some cheap sound cards that actually use Yamaha's synths.  The Turtle Beach Guillimont.

Um...if you're refering to those cards with the hardware XG chips, then the company name you'd be looking for is Guillemot.  Unless this is a new budget card that Turtle Beach just released, I don't think TB has any XG cards, at least none that I've seen....
