I'd say start by just making one of those first missions as a peace preserver, ppl can ignore/treat him like a kid

Good idea. Something like SeeD training in FF8. You can pass here some knowledge about world, organisations, countries, more important people etc. Maybe even going step earlier at the events when he's forced to join, maybe he was forced to join by his parents.
Add a bit dramatism and danger and you have intro in Hitchcockesque style. You could also add some hard times in the organisation, expand the treatment a bit farther than just a kid. Make him a pushover, introvertic, who's anger is building from inside from mission to mission and when it explodes, some tragedy/accident/betrayal occurs which forces him to desert or normally leave them.
You can make him either a victim or a cause of something bad. Being a cause gives more tragic opportunities, haunting ghosts of the past, maybe some subconscious actions pushing him to self-redemption, making him introvertic, or even more introvertic, untrustfull etc.

In the scene with a girl a choice would be good. To help or not. The linearity is for you to decide, you could change the events a bit or in Suikoden style, after denial you could force the hero into the fight which could later alter just few dialogue sentences and run the story normally. You could add character among gangsters which could be later recruited, start a storyline concerning the cause of the assault or why he left the organisation. Maybe they didn't forget about him and want him back. What if there's something special and misterious about him, etc, etc.
Possibilities are endless.

Aren't you the guy who wanted to make a 3D RPG?
It's cool you're trying to be creative but seriously but it's too soon. Sleep with it, design it, make a storyline, characters, main idea, style, decide on engine, make some demo. It's important to show people the project is in development and if it's advanced enough it'll encourage people to join you, reassuring them you won't resign after few weeks as one of the ever changing ideas for "something to do".
We, with two of my friends, are working on a game for 4 months now in our free time and still don't want to ask for help or show the project. It's still not certain we will finish it...

Howdy,
first of all I'd like you to consider if you really need 3D. Sometimes sticking to 2D makes better effect and even mediocre 2D visuals it get old really slow. You seem pretty good at drawing so you shouldn't have much problems making sprites.
Consider storytelling style, some storyline outline, and features that would need 2D or 3D to help you decide. You can make awesome game without jump into popular full 3D(example: The World Ends With You).
If you're already sure you'll stick with 3D(or 3D for that matter) it's important to pick what language you want to make it or determines what group of engines you could use. If you're planning making your own engine I'd suggest to consider it toroughfully. It's tough piece of bread and there are pretty open source cool engines available in the net(example: Panda3D).

It's hard to suggest you something, you didn't elaborate much about your project, needs and actual resources.

Releases / Re: FF7 - Reasonable difficulty mod[1.1]
« on: 2009-03-24 11:13:19 »
You can quite easily verify if it's working using different means:
1. Check "Last modified date" in file's Properties. If it's your patching time, it's fine.
2. Try to patch it again. If it's patched or contains different modifications, patch won't work since it's made specificly for original scene.bin.
3. Initial enemies(Soldiers with tonfas, grenades and machine guns) should always survive Cloud's 1 attack which wasn't the case before the patch.

Also this patch wasn't meant to be difficult in any way but a bit more challenging than original game, hence the name: Reasonable Difficulty Mod.

There's short instruction how to do this. Also you have info in first post:

"Installation
--Download and launch. Point patcher to your 'ff7\data\battle' directory and have fun--
Don't forget to backup your original scene.bin.
"

PS: Are you going to continue to update this mod?
Yes I do. Right now I'm really low on time but I have some neat(in my opinion) tweaks. I'll consider your suggestions, thanks a lot for your feedback and interest in this small patch.
Cheers.

It's really werid problem. Not sure how to help you. Maybe Saint's higher res patch will help. Either way, it's really cool mod if you support the resolution.

You can re-insert it with cdmage(kudos for ff7rules for the info) and switch files but they have to be exact size or else they'll have to be trimmed down or zeros will be inserted at the end.
Also Sony Movie Converter & MovPack may help you.

Aaaaand I think this topic should be in Tech Related/Support.

Edit: Crap, my mistake. This post is spam and should be deleted.

Try drivers 177.79. May help.
I had similar issues with faulty drivers, but for Radeon.

S'up dude! That's pretty amazing piece of software you've made, honestly. I'll surely check it out more as soon as I get enough free time for "fun". Thanks for your great work and keep it up.

63
Nope, you can get it on disc 1, but you need a lot more bp to be able to get it though.
Yup. Twice as much as I recall.

64
Hah, I remember previews of FFX in '97. I loved the game from the start. Midgar was cool, graphics were awesome, didn't knew what to expect about the game. Then I played it one year later. My friend bought it so we shared the discs. When he finished the first one, I played it, when he finished second, he borrowed it to me and so on. I remember he took some time to finish 2nd, and I was on first still. Unable to advance story I was maxing out the first one being at 82lvl when I started 2nd disc :D Bought mansion in costa del sol, mastered a lot of materias which were ready for Master
  • and I was probably one of the first people who obtained Omnislash on first disc but for some time I didn't knew what it was and how to teach it to the Cloud cause without 3rd lvl limits I couldn't use it on him :D

They still laugh at this situation when they recall it.

I really loved the immersive mood, interesting story, memorable characters and of course, incredible soundtrack. It was my fav RPG along with Chrono Trigger with which I spend a lot of time also seeing every ending. And there wasn't youtube at the time so you had to finish the game manually with specific set of prerequistice fulfilled in order to view them.
I miss good old times when gaming was a passion. Right now is just a hobby with very limited ammount of time to spend on it.

Launching games from ISO backups is ok if you own the game. It's a lot faster than from cd/dvd drives so I would even suggest you to do it that way.

As for patch you can google for ff8 1.02 patch, or final fantasy viii 1.02 patch. You should find it within few minutes.

Ad 1. I would suggest you to update game to 1.02 version and/or turn of your antialiasing which may be cause of it as I recall.

Ad 2. It's a chocobo minigame in which you may find items that can be transferred to your main game. It was a separate app for old playstation handheld "console", my memory's lacking how was it called.

Ad 3. If he own the games he's using with daemon tools it's not, he just preserves his discs and drive that way. However if he downloads the games from the internet, yes. Unsure is situation in which he borrows the games from friends and uses that way. But in my opinion it's not.

I wanted to write "Old as f*ck" but Landarma is older...

Turning 25 in march(month, not activity).

No, we don't like Yuna. We don't like FFs for that matter. All this modding is to learn the game code and break it so never will be able to play those games again, extract char models to make digital voodoo dols and make them suffer etc.

But to be serious, I thought it was another lame why/what/who do you like but this pic is pretty cool. Except that hammer doesn't fit her at all. Is this some kind of mod or just composition?

Troubleshooting / Re: Who would want a New Game+?
« on: 2009-01-15 10:58:09 »
This could work. I've seen hacked saves, maxed out starting the game right from the train. The app would be pretty cool but I think the difficulty would be a bit to lame with 40lvl+ so this app could be even better when it would apply some insane difficulty level to set some challenging foes at the same time. I think this may work and could be pretty cool idea.

Yeah... It seems so... I was absent for more than two years on this forum, you know, busy stuff, didn't realized that 2 years have passed... Recently I occasionaly started to visit it again but didn't want to perform necromancy with this topic so I didn't revived it. Anyways, I did this patch for my own purpose, just to have more fun with the game, nothing more, I'm really glad some people like it.

Edit: Oh, crap it's 3 years o_O'. Where did that time go...

Thanks, that means a lot for me ;]

You do realize that this is close to scam? There's no FF7 to trade for your referrer points. Only newer products like osts, crisis core, dirge etc. And to be clear, I didn't visit the page using link with your ref id just to be mean enough not to give you points you want to earn so eagerly.
