Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Editing backgrounds...
« on: 2004-07-06 07:36:51 »
Hey...

I wanted to play around with some of the background files in photoshop... just for shitz and giggles.  However, upon extraction and decompression, the files no longer have extensions, and photoshop refuses to open them.

So, uhm... help? =.

Archive / Who, WHO?! (qhimm, please read, too!)
« on: 2004-06-20 08:40:53 »
Okay...

I need to know who did:

the 1.02 patch
the upside-down movies patch

I'm pretty sure it was "random tech guy at eidos" in both cases, but i just want to be certain.

And also, I need to know if it would be okay for me to distribute these, along with qhimm's chocobo patch, on my site, as well as in a patch pack (no alterations to the patches/zips would be made.  I'd just be stuffing a bunch of patches into a zip file for convenience)

I should prolly ask qhimm in private about distributing his patch, but mweh, i figure he'd run into this thread first anyway.

Archive / Bike Mini game speed fix!!
« on: 2004-06-09 10:05:48 »
Okay, get this, tech heads!

Lower your monitor's refresh rate to about 60-ish.

Turn on Vsync.

Viola, it runs SLOW!  Well, not REAL slow, but slow enough to play.  I went from finishing the race in 15 seconds to finising it in a little over a minute and a half.  I call taht a dramatic difference =)  So no dangerous underclocking or code fixing or anything!  and when you're done, jusy change everything back (or set a profile for ff7 to run at these settings)

Works for the snowboard game, too, though that's something you WANT to be a little fast.

And yeah, yer all welcome =P

Archive / Game being picky about modded files -_-
« on: 2004-04-21 04:55:30 »
Well, i got my hands on Alexx's p 2 raw converter, and i started playing around in milksape.. unfortunatly, my little modifications of the characters didn't go over too well.  The game refused to render them!  (ie, Tifa is now a pair of legs and a skirt with a floating pair of arms and a head)

There's 2 possible reasons for this: 1) i didn't convert back to the original file format correctly, (the p 2 raw only works one way, so i simply decided to rename it), or b, it doesn't like the largeer file size.

I'm not a great modler by any means, but i'm pretty sure i can get the characters to a decent high-res quality if i can get this to work.  Though Milkshape also doesn't seem to wanna support vertex shading, either, so it's not like I could color my modifications... =/

Any tips?

Archive / Shooting coaster: Zeplin?!
« on: 2004-04-18 18:14:21 »
Okay, you know that yellow Zeplin in the coaster shooting game?  Well, I've accidently hit it a few times, geting THOUSANDS of points.. but whenever i TRY to hit it, nothing!

Is the zeplin's propeller really worth thosuands of points, or is it something else near there?  A bug?  I tried checking it out, but i wouldn't know what programs to use to see what's worth what and where they are.

Suggestions/help?

Archive / Somoene wanna look over this?
« on: 2004-04-17 16:14:44 »
I wrote a guide for letting people play movies off thier HD (instead of the CDs) in ff7.  It's catered to n00bs and other non techy people, so it's kinda long-winded with precautions and warnings.

Anyway, can someone fact-check this for me?  I'm pretty sure this is what I did to get the movies working, but I wanna make sure this is accurate before i inadvertantly make some idiot fuck up their comp.

Any comments or suggestions, lemme have it =)

Archive / 3D battler attack paterns?
« on: 2004-04-14 08:57:41 »
Hey, i was wondering if anyone had the info for how the AIs attack in the 3-D battler game in Wonder Square.  I've noticed that the First guy is almost imposible to lose to, especially if you keep using the same attack.  After that, though, things start becoming less coherant in terms of how many garunteed hits you have versus how many garunteed hits the opponent has.

Also, there's no other real pattern I've been able to see: for a few games in a row, i used nothing but high attacks agaisnt the first guy: he still got hit a lot, but he didn't always use the same attacks; sometimes he'd block, or he'd hit me where last time I hit him, so I don't think there's any hard-coded attack sequence.

But it also can't be random, because if i'm using the same attack over and over, over several tries, he's bound to eventually kill me, but he never does (I've tested using all med and low attacks against him, as well).

It also can't be completly random, because teh next several guys are tougher, and teh LAST guy (an invisible entity) CANT be hit: he either blocks your attacks or hits you, BUT he hits you with the same atatck each time (ie, he'll be set to only hit you if you aim high, but the other two attacks are automatically blocked, leaving me to beleive ther IS some kind of autoblock/hit feature designed in the AI.  I cheated and locked myseflf at no hits, and i didn't hit him ONCE after 50 rounds)

But I'd like to know what the exact pattern is, just so I can beat the hing fair and square (and put it up on my webpage, mwha ha!)

Well, he needs someone to feed him some hero drinks, and you need to either cheat/have no life to get all the materia neded (ie, 8 counters, 8 mimes), buuutttt....

http://n.ethz.ch/student/wmartin/
look for link that says "beating emerald weapon." It's in Japanese though.

Now, you can probably do this with any character with multi-hit limits... Buuut all their multi-hit limits take too long. Plus, Angermax seems to do more damage total when you pump barret up with Hero drinks compared to say, kotr or omnishlash.

Appologies if this has been posted before, though.

Oh, and I've confirmed that this works.  I'd make my own video, but, bleh.  I don't know how to workify them darn fancy video editin' tools.

Archive / FF8 refusing to work
« on: 2004-01-20 06:16:34 »
Hiya...

A friend of mine has been trying to play ff8, but whenever he'd start up, it'd tell him to "Insert disc 1", but it was already in there, or he'd put it in and nothing would happen.  It would just hang.

Now hes an even bigger comp geek than I am, and we're both stumped.  He's got Dx9 and has all his codecs and drivers updated...

Here's his specs:

 / MSI KT4V / AMD XP [email protected] / 512DDR pc2700 & pc2100 / Tyan Tachyon G9000 Pro 64mb ( ATI Radeon 9000) / AC97 /  40 & 60GB HDD's / 52x cd-rw/DVD /

So... what's preventing him from playing?
