FF7 Tools / Re: [WIP] Keystone v1.1
« on: 2011-07-13 19:41:54 »
gogogogogogogo! so looking forward to testing some new field bgs. Really wish I could get into doing some of this work myself, but I'm fairly sure my old P4 3.2 couldnt hack it

aali the end of battle black screen menu area thingy... it's slowly killing me... take pity on me
am i wrong in imagining there are just a few things to change in the code to fix it back? can we do it ourselves by changing a line or two in the fgd file? sorry to bother you about it ;p

useless reply but, seriously, wow. that's really neat.

needs more info but...

try updating your system's video driver

also: do they work at any other resolutions? say 1280X960?

the input_cfg file or w/e is something the system will generate on its own once you hit a save point iirc

Releases / Re: [WIP] Menu Overhaul Project
« on: 2011-06-26 05:58:57 »
The thing that's causing me to spam this thread to look for update is that i forgot to backup my stuff before i threw this mod in (the 245 release iirc). So I've just been waiting for the actual installer to be finished to fix the things that weren't done yet.

What can be done about the bottom portion of the battle screen that blacks out at the end of a battle? I know I've at least seen this mentioned by DLPB.

Sorry to repost this question, but i put it in the wrong thread several days ago ;p

I just wonder what kind of file size we will end up with after fractal resizing the entire games backgrounds?

834
ya looks fantastic!

Looking forward to upcoming release, thanks so much!

835
Thx for the info sir  ;D. I'm going to use it now.

After extract, can i remove png texture on Mods folder to save diskspace or keep it?

I removed them to save space and worked fine. But be careful not to remove other things like worldmap stuff too!

From the legacy ATI camp, was surprised to find that turning pbo on did not cause any problems for my x800 XT p4 system FF7 build. The new release runs fine where the .10b version did not for some other reason I guess? Unfortunately I am still unable to run DLPBs FMV restoration at full speed in game, though that certainly isn't the end of the world.

Comparing to the .09b driver I had been running the worldmap looks much nicer. I guess the Anti-aliasing kicked on, or something.

Thanks ever so much for the continued work on your driver Aali, its brought me countless hours of fun.

I'm surprised too, but my ATI system is running this latest driver release with both texture compression and PBO on. Looks great and seems to be running faster now. I wish it would go make me a sandwich.

ninja edit: nvm texture compression on worked fine til I unleashed a mighty Cross-cut and then I got some weird artifacts in the animation. so far PBO on and texture compression off working fine under testing.

Ok, i'm kinda a newb at modding games, so I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.  In my config file, I had the' mod_path = none'  showing up in my file.  So, I've also downloaded all the files from this and extracted them inside the mods folder.  I've never downloaded anything related to that "avalanche" (ie mod_path = avalanche) so I don't have those mods either, I just really wanna get these to work.  So I extracted them in the mods folder, and I put 'mod_path = mods' in my config file, but I'm still not seeing any improvements to the game.  It seems like there should be some sub folder in the mod folder, but i'm not really sure.  I'll copy what is in my file, and hopefully someone can help me get this working.  Remember, I extracted all the files I downloaded from here straight into the mods folder, so maybe that was a mistake but I don't know.

You just need to make a subdirectory within the mods folder. Most people name it avalanche for simplicity sake. set the mod_path to avalanche and put all those files in that avalanche directory. For whatever reason, has to be a subdirectory within mods folder. You COULD name it C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\mods\mods\ if you really wanted to set the code to say mod_path = mods

Im using aali .9b and this works fine so far with it but I haven't tested all the battle scenes obviously

839
thanks for posting this, i tried this and it does indeed load a lot faster for my old p4.

Solved Problems / Re: Some troubles of a NB
« on: 2011-06-12 06:04:15 »
hi Bart
i think you may be experiencing some difficulties from using remix. I urge you to use separate mods as a general rule and also make backups and test each one as you install them before moving on to the next. I think the tutorial videos that can be found at www.finalfantasy7pc.com are generally very helpful. Learning how to unpack and reconfigure lpg files with programs like Highwind is useful.

heres the way I build FF7pc right now
(i made .iso files from my game discs to make the actual install easier for me)

after initial install:
A.) 1.02 patch
B.) aali's custom opengl driver v.10b or maybe .9 if u cant run the latest version
C.) Phoenix Rejuvenation Project (watch the tutorial for that on the ff7pc website)
D.) Avalanche and the .08GUI
E.) ff7music

to me, at this point in time, those 5 mods are fairly comprehensive. now anything else you wanna mess with after those is up for debate and/or experimentation. I have added a lot of things to the directory mods\avalanche\ which magically appear in game (thanks to the modpath option in aali's openglcfg), like updated battle backgrounds for some areas and some of the great field scenes that have been updated by guys like SL and Yarlson.

as for stealing in ff7, its not surprising to fail 20x in a row or more. ff7 steal can be rough. seems to vary but im not super knowledgeable about it other than i think its more satisfyingly challenging than some other games in the ff series.

If this is just a masturbatory post saying "Look what we did!" then I won't bother.

lol...................

i think you know already.

but i seriously want you to go through line by line and make snarky remarks about almost all of them and post it.

I have FF7 + 1.02 +  v 0.7.10b driver.

In windowed mode, everything is correct. In full screen it doesn't show the whole image.
Example: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/17/ff7gn0mish.png

The whole game is like this.

ATM I have
window_size_x = 640
window_size_y = 480
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = yes

You are on the right track. Need to change the resolution for x and y to whatever resolution you use normally, so check your display settings and adjust accordingly. If it's a semi old computer you probably will want to use 1024X768

844
check out the PRP installation tutorial at ff7pc.com

using the executables that come with PRP installer is not recommended, instead replace the lpg files char and world_us with the 00.lpg and 01.lgp PRP creates, as that tutorial instructs.

Releases / Re: [Demo] Final Fantasy VII: 2D Remake

wow! that's really neat, great work.
what made you decide to undertake a project of this type?

846
I think if someone redid the videos with different audio they would work for a lot more people. Just a guess.

847
I am beginning to be concerned that these mods will draw negative attention from Square-Enix... They are so hq, if they want to make a new FF7 it's almost like it will be 3rd version.

Solved Problems / Re: cosmo 95c problem
« on: 2011-05-25 02:11:13 »
i kinda wanted to give up on this... sat there and stared at the only instructions i could find for about 10 minutes:

Um this has been discussed like a million times but you open cosmo, it will open up off the screen.  press alt+f, left, down to "move" and press enter.  Then hit the left arrow key rapidly until it appears to the right side of your monitor.

then i realized i was kinda being daft. seriously, follow those instructions. i was hitting control+f for quite a while before i noticed. then sure enough, u can see the menu pop up to the side of the screen when u hit alt+f for the "file" menu just like in your browser alt+f opens the "file" menu, and then the left arrow key to enter the active window menu. after you've selected move (by using the down arrow key) and hit enter, use the arrow keys to move the window over til u can grab it with your mouse. :)

another issue is that cosmo itself needs to be your active window when you hit alt+f. since you cant see the window just make sure you have it selected in your task bar.

don't feel bad. it happened to me too.

i never did see an explanation for this quirky behavior after install, but once you move the console it doesn't do it again (or hasn't to me). the program is super fast and easy to use once u see the actual GUI... getting the sound effects right once you start messing with it can be difficult, though.

Releases / Re: [WIP/REL] Project Blackfan
« on: 2011-05-24 06:20:13 »
I have to say this is one of the best mods iv seen i was actually hoping somebody would take up the huge task of sharpening all that horrible background.Keep up the great work and dont listen to the peeps that dont like it they must have some problems with thier eyes or somthing in my oppinin its 10x better than the original :)

Definitely check out SLs twin project: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11501.0

Idk what the deal is there, guys, but I think you two should team up once Yarlson has a compy. I really don't know how to say it to either of you but, I think your two styles would actually be best served by some sort of compromise. There are big time +s and -s to both of the sets but the results are absolutely astounding in both cases. To me, the background work that's contained here in Blackfan and sl's field enhancement mod are much heavier in impact to FF7 PC than the battle enhancements are. I would be inclined to donate some funds to keep this work going... Blackfan is somehow more cartoonish and sl's field enhancements are industrial and more "comic book" if you'll indulge me. Both styles have their place in FF7, obviously.

The effect is that I almost don't want to play the rest of the game with the awful backgrounds. In particular I want to see a rendition from either of you or both of the trip down the crater or whatever at the end of the game. I remember it being jaw dropping when I was young and in love with my PS1. I have not yet been to that part of the game again in some 15 years, and I don't want it to be a bad trip, you know?

Anyway, someone needs to buy Yarlson a computer or something.

General Discussion / optimum pc setup for ff7?
« on: 2011-05-22 09:27:35 »
assuming i were going to build a system with ff7 in mind, though i also play ffxi, what type of video processor and cpu platform would you suggest? how about operating system?

im currently using a P4 3.2GHzprescott with a Radeon x800 XT(256 mb vram) ang 1Gig of ram on WinXP

As an alternate, bearing in mind those are the only games i really play for the foreseeable future, should i switch to an Nvidia card that's on the AGP platform this computer uses? I see newegg still sells them. Using the hi res mods for ff7 really stutters sometimes on my current setup, though mostly the game runs flawless even with 4x/8x aa/af. The major thing that bothers me is the old ATI videocard and AMD's legacy drivers. Somethings missing there and I dont see AMD fixing it ever.

I appreciate any input!
