So I return here for the first time in quite some time (apart from a single post 9 months ago), because of a PM-notification on my old email adress, only to see absolutely nothing has changed one single bit.

In a weird sense this made my day.

yeah i know apple appraises their merchandise too much..but..their cute and cute is my type..i like cuties haha..hp looks casual and i like that too..and i know how powerful they are cause i have a friends that has one..ill see if i could afford an apple but if not, then im goin for hp..^^D \m/

Don't bother looking into Apple notebooks if you a) want to be able to play decent games on it and b) are at the same time on a relative budget. Apple makes great notebooks (my Macbook is among the best purchases I've ever done), but unless you're willing to spend around 2000 euros on a Macbook Pro, gaming is not really going to work. For much less you can get a good laptop (Dell, IBM) that will be able to run your games (ofcourse depending on the videocard). Also, don't fall for the new (ordinary) Macbook advertisement which states that one can now play 3d games on the normal Macbook as well. Yes, this is true, but only to a certain, very limited extent. If you really are a gamer it simply won't be enough.

If you are however willing to spend a lot of money then Apple may actually be interesting. Especially with Bootcamp (which allows you to run Windows on an Apple laptop) it really is best of both worlds. A friend of mine uses his Macbook Pro to play most recent games and it works like a charm. And with software such as VMWare Fusion and Parallels you can use a virtual windows machine inside OSX. It's brilliant.

As for the whole which brand to get: whatever you do don't buy Acer or Packard Bell. HP is okay-ish, Dell really depends on the type (they've got some really good and some pretty bad ones), IBM (Lenovo) is awesome but pricey and the word design is not in their vocabulary. ;)

Also, in my opinion: overhyped? Depends on the point of view and the product (i.e. iPod vs. Macbook). Overpriced? Probably, although I might even be tempted into saying it's worth it.

3
Haven't played either of both games, but I did come across a fun review of The Orange Box.

There are quite funny reviews of Bioshock and Halo 3 as well.

It can be found here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/

4
It might be the last one, but if this is true, then it being the last one doesn't mean that it's the end of Final Fantasy. Not for a long time.

5
Thanks for this. Enjoyed listening to some of the remixes. Most of them are very mediocre or even badly done, but some are very good.

As mentioned before especially Son of Chaos is very good. Jenova Returns and Omnislash are well performed and composed as well.

Oh, and hi all. It's been some time, 3 weeks short of a year to be precise.

I wasn't planning on posting after my previous one, but I will make one last post.

First, I'd like to ask an admin or mod to close this thread, since it has served it's purpose. Those of you that wanted to say goodbye, did, thanks for that. :)

Second, I would like to explain one more thing, and this may sound weird to some of you.
I do not mind that Jari posted his first post, I intentionally left it up to him to decide whether or not he wanted to explain the situation, yes or no.
And he is right when he says that some people might have expected who I was talking about, whereas lots of others wouldn't have.
He decided to explain, that is fine by me.

1). But on the internet these days it's rare to see any places with a fair number of members that don't have at least a couple people like that.  I hope you end up reconsidering and sticking around regardless.

It is rare indeed. I'm not reconsidering, I might return if/when there are new forums and maybe I'll lurk around here every now and then. But no, I've decided to leave, and thus I will do so.

2). I'm sorry if my horrible lack of punctuation, improper structure, and (on occasion) bad grammar bother anybody but i admit I have been, and more than likely will be again, part of that problem. I don't think i fall under the other issues addressed but if i do sorry.

No need to apologise to me or anyone else. It's more than enough that you try and are aware of it.

3). It's too bad when people don't get along, especially when they can't handle it themselves privately and find a resolution to the current dilemma.

It is indeed, however sometimes that's just the way it is. Jari's made his decision and I respect that, whatever I think of it or however I may feel about it, is mainly my business. I think this is a very important thing, which more people should learn to understand. Respect. (Don't think Tupac here ;) )

I also think Jari is a nice guy. He really is, so please don't think differently of him than you did before I posted this entire thing (whatever opinion that may have been), achieving that was not my intention.

And no, I don't hope you will start talking to me again by posting this.

Thats pretty much it. I know at least a couple people are going to disagree or feel I've overstepped myself or something (which is their right,) but I'm feeling opinionated today so i thought I'd share on the off chance it might do some good. I'll return to being quiet again now.

Don't, whenever you feel opinionated, do post. It's what makes and keeps forums interesting.

Completely Unrelated / Leaving Qhimm.com
« on: 2006-10-26 15:05:36 »
Hey all,

I'm leaving Qhimm.com. My reasons for this are many, but among them are:

1. Certain people on the boards, one in particular.
2. The overall deteriorated state of the boards.
3. Too busy with everything other than being online, reading and posting. Think University, friends and so on.

I do not know if anyone cares about this at all, I just thought I'd let everyone know. I haven't been posting for over 2 months now, so I had practically left already.
This is just the official announcement, I think.

Let me add a little more explanation to the first two points.

Ad1:

I've become more and more annoyed by certain members here, which I will not name, because I am not out to turn this thread into yet another fight between people.
Let's just say these people seem to be able to somehow continue creating shitty-threads or making shitty-posts.
I'm very disappointed with one particular member, and his ways of treating me. I believe them to be unfair. I will not add anymore to this either. It comes down to the fact that the entire situation does not improve my enjoyment of Qhimm.com.

Ad2:

I'm just going to say this the way it is. The boards have deteriorated badly.
Qhimm.com isn't near what it used to be and nowadays even far away from the good things going on when the situation was already slightly "bad".
Stupid people keep creating stupid threads, fighting over stupid arguments and finding more and more ways to make fun of, attack or insult other members.
Besides this, the forums have become somewhat of a helpdesk for new people to just post one message, get an answer and get the fuck out of here.
New, fun threads aren't created anymore, and when they are spammed full of silly posts, using grammar that isn't even near Engrish.

I know all too well, that I myself have also been a part of this and contributed to the above mentioned things. I "understand" that and, though it was fun at the time itself, now I am not proud of some of my posts. It was, and still is, unnecessary and I hope that in whatever the future may hold for the forums it will not happen anymore. I fear it will though.

Basically it means I do not feel the need to post anymore. I have noticed I'm not the only one in this, more "older" members have been around a lot less and some have even left as well.

I'm not saying the boards have completely lost their touch or right to exist, because Q-Gears is still going strong and there are good threads in both TR and GT.
The heart of the forums is still beating, the body however has started to die slowly, but surely.
There are many things these boards need, but I am not going to summarize them here, because they are well known.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank Qhimm for granting me the possibility to be here, for 3 years of my life, and with that the time I was able to spend with many great people.
(And hope to continue to do with some of them.)

It's been fun, it really has. Too bad it has to end like this.

For those of you that care: I will miss you and this place. See you someday, somewhere.

Completely Unrelated / Message from Jari
« on: 2006-08-21 15:17:09 »
Hey all,

Today I was asked by Jari (whom most of you know as Sad Jari) if I would please post something on his behalf on the boards, since he has deleted his account for personal reasons and is therefore unable to post.
Some of you will think and maybe even post "If he wanted to say something, why not just come back and say so himself?" or "Are you his personal typist now?"
Answer: No, I am not his personal typist, I have decided to post this because I want to and because I think it is the fair thing to do.
Why he can't post it himself, well most of you will hopefully be able to figure that out for themselves, otherwise let's just say it is illogical.

N.B: Just to avoid tons of speculation: No, he doesn't live anywhere near me and no we are not actually one and the same person.

So then, the following is Jari's message. (NOTE: these are his words, not mine, for those of you that have skipped my little intro and went straight here.)

"Hello Alhexx

I've asked EW to post this as a new thread, since it seems someone closed the last one. I suppose that someone had a reason for doing so... he's so afraid of me that he'll silence all discussion, even after I'm gone? :P

Perhaps telling people the reason why you close threads would remove some doubts about your reasons, no?

Anyway, the reason for this post; please don't put words into my mouth. I did not leave because I wanted to, anymore than I left the Lounge because I wanted to.

I left because it was the right thing to do. Sometimes there can be a world of difference between the two, and I don't really want to be known as a selfish person for actions that were not selfish.

Take care."

--Jari

9
I agree.

There shouldn't have been anymore posts after Azurian's one.
It was dead for almost two weeks and should have been left that way in the first place.

10
I have only one thing to say and then wish no one ever posts in here again.

Topic-starter, Please just die. Not the regular dying but the painful suffering one.

Well, your wish has not been granted. I am so very sorry.

You do not post things like this. You just don't. You may not like someone, maybe even hate him but you do not wish them to "die in a horrible suffering way".
Especially not when you barely know the person and the only thing he's done to you is post this thread.
That's just plain stupid. Snake has heard enough about this. No need for you to go and make statements like these.

Meh.

Sigh...

I just finished the last episode of Veronica Mars Season 2. And it was brilliant. No, better than that. The best I've ever seen is more like it.
Now I have to wait for at least a whole month until the start of the next tv-season and with that new episodes...

What on earth will I do with my life the coming month? Someone? Anyone?

Edit: Oh. And Pimp My Ride... the only thing on MTV I have ever watched.

Pimp my Ride is fun. That's the episodes with Xzibit, all the rip-offs suck. One of the few good shows on MTV. As far as good goes on MTV.

I haven't watched House yet, even though a friend of mine has shown me some episodes. It just didn't appeal to me somehow. I might go and see it though, I'm always the skeptic-type with new series. Ranting on and on about the show I'm watching at the very moment and making fun of other shows. I always come crawling back with my tail between my legs though when it turns out I was, once again, horribly mistaken.

I'm not really the CSI-person. Don't really know why, I just don't like it. I can't seem to not lose attention when watching episodes. Haven't really tried Stargate yet. Have watched almost all Star Trek there is, started watching Farscape, thought it wasn't that good and quit. Should go and see Babylon 5, I think. But Stargate I don't know, I just always go "Hey look! McGuyver! Oh no wait...."  :-P

So then, what show to watch after I finish my last episodes of Veronica Mars? House? Stargate? America's Next Topmodel?

Convince me!

(Oh, and just out of the blue, I do have a thriving social life. Really I do.)

Completely Unrelated / So then, TV-Series.
« on: 2006-07-28 23:02:45 »
Topic title explains all.

What TV-series, probably American, have you followed/fallen in love with/despised/watched over and over/are you looking forward to for next season/turned into your guilty pleasure? Just to be ahead of any confusion, I am not talking about Anime-series. There have been enough topics about that.

My list (in semi-random order):

Battlestar Galactica -- Brilliancy. Extremely good series. Might be the best on TV right about now (only to be matched by one other). Plot is awesome, mindfracking all the time, great cast, great story. Just great.

Watch: If you like a mindthrilling, extremely good drama-thriller in space. With lots, and I mean lots, of twists.
Do not watch: If you hate SF, are more the Gilmore Girls -type.

Veronica Mars -- Guilty pleasure. But hell, I don't give a damn. I love this. Might be the best on TV right about now (only to be matched by one other). It just has it all. The story completely sucks you up, keeps asking for more. Well, I really don't know what else to say. Together with the other one the only series that got me to skip food, sleep and many other things. I just had to see another episode.

Watch: If you're not a complete idiot. If you secretely like series in somewhat of a highschool-setting. Like plots that are almost unpredictable, yes you read it right, really unpredictable. Just watch it all damn right!
Do not watch: If you've got testosteron bottled up in your room because it wouldn't fit into your body anymore. If you're too cool and sleep with a teddybear.

Prison Break -- Good. Very decent series. Friend of mine once put in this way "It does it's thing. It does that in a very, very good way though." Don't expect the best plot ever, it's good though. Suspense, high risk of failure, outsmarting and being outsmarted, careful planning. That sums it up really boldly.

Watch: If you've always wanted to break out of prison but just never managed to actually get there. Like suspense and the above-mentioned. Sarah Wayne Callies.
Do not watch: If you'd rather know what happened on the latest episode of Everwood or Will & Grace.

Boston Legal -- Now this is hilarious and brilliant at the same time. William Shatner and James Spader are the greatest lawyers ever. Jokes that surpass the "yeah-that-was-fun-level" with ease. Dialogues: Superb.

Watch: If you like William Shatner or James Spader. If you've got an "educated sense of humour".  :-P
Do not watch: If you dislike good series and thought Grey's Anatomy rocked.

Scrubs: Fun. That describes it in one word. Let's use two though: Great fun. Nah, three is better: Super Great Fun. Care to hear some more?

Watch: If you're not a-hilarious.
Do not watch: If you are. If you die while watching hospital-series.

So, short:

Official Love/Adore/Best-list:

Battlestar Galactica
Veronica Mars

Great list:

Boston Legal
Prison Break

Hilarious-list:

Scrubs.

Official-Despise (Go to Hell and Die-list):

Gilmore Girls
Sex and the City
Grey's Anatomy
Any series like these.

If I could name one series you have to watch: Battlestar Veronica Mars.

That's it for me.

14
Well, I think we all made our point, so let's no longer go on about it. It might start to / may have started to look like we're "attacking" or ridiculing him, when we're not.

@Snake: You probably understand what we are trying to say. It's cool to dream, and you could have picked a far worse something to dream about. (So maybe the idea of a fan-site isn't that bad.)
I just hope you take time to think over any decision you make, to avoid it becoming rash ones. And there's plenty of time left to think everything over.

For now, well let's just say I'm off watching another Veronica Mars episode.

General Discussion / Re: Remake Petition
« on: 2006-07-23 22:58:57 »
Petitions are great!

I'm thinking of starting my very own!

The Great "Strictly Forbid any More Fracking Petitions!" Petition!

And once I have more than 100 signatures, I'll give it to Mr. George Bush! He's the president of the world, he'll listen to me and know what to do with it!

16
Meh, let me add something to my previous post.

Okay, so like I said before it's good to have dreams. It's a wonderful thing really, without dreams there's a whole lot less to live for. And dreams can create and maintain a state of mind similiar to joy/happiness/fun etc. So, there's nothing wrong with liking this girl, thinking she's cute, imagining what it would be like to meet her and so on. If anyone of you has seen the TVseries Veronica Mars, I'd love to meet her. (Kristen Bell that is...)

Even love her.

That is, as long as you realize the truth of the situation, and face the facts. With facts meaning the things I pointed out among other things. Like Synergy Blades said, you need to go outside and meet girls from where you live. There are more than enough out there.

It's not too far.................Take a plane and you will be in Japan in 8 hours............And she is Japanese.

Ticketprice? Money? Expensive? 15?

That doesn't mean that I can't get to know her...

True. Chances are still 0 though. There's a chance I'll meet Kristen Bell someday. It's not going to happen.

Chinese? I don't think so. Japanese? I'm learning them. Kon' nichi ha. Watashi wa KaZuyA desu.

Well, good. Japanese is after all one of the easiest languages around.

Wrong...I am more than a fan......

That's not what I meant. I meant she may have 10.000 other fans just like you. Willing to fight them all?

Haha, Indeed, my friend.
There is no chance it is ever going to happen.

Glad that you agree.

Never know what's going to happen, because every hour, every minute, every second, every thought, i make dicisions. I make my past, my present, and my future.

Very poetic. Newsflash: Doesn't change the situation.

You think that only these things happen in Hollywood, but you don't know how far I can go. Not even your greatest imagination. Neither in the Final Final Fantasy XXI.

Now you're sounding truly obsessed. I do not want to have to imagine, because you're not going to. These things DO only happen in Hollywood.

Quote
I would say that you shouldnt go nuts over this girl, you probably will miss a really cool girl that is staring you in the face because of it.
I didn't understand very well the last sentence, so i will not comment.

He means that maybe the cute girl in your street is silently in love with you, but you haven't noticed because you only think of Miss. Cosplay.

----------???General meaning???----------
I am determined to do it.

And I'm determined you will not.

I hope you understand what we are trying to say. Even though my tone might have been a bit harsh, it's for your own good really. Obsessions have led to far worse things than a broken heart. A broken skull for example.

So here's a little to-do-list:

1. Stop thinking about her in the way that you currently do. See her as a cute girl on the internet, not someone you'll ever meet in real life. Or fall in love with for that matter.
2. Start going out and meet girls in your neighbourhood. At school, after school were-ever.
3. Dream on. And at the same time realize you are dreaming.

Oh, and one more thing. A question for you:

What do you think she would think if she ever read this? Or met you somewhere? Ever considered her feelings?

17
So then. Let's cut to the chase.

1. Girl lives in Japan/China, you live in Cyprus.
2. You do not know girl, she does not know you.
3. She has probably got a boyfriend already. Or maybe a girlfriend, you wouldn't know.
4. Do you speak Japanese? Or Chinese?
5. You are probably the only fan she has.......right?

So, let's put all these into the Love-Calculator.

*Enter Values* *Success* *Processing*

ZING!

Answer: The chance that you will ever meet this girl, get to know her and become her boyfriend matches 0.0001%.
Explanation: No, it's never going to happen. Just not. Never ever. That means not now, not tomorrow, not in 10 years. Not untill the Apocalypse.

I do have to point out two things though. It's good to have dreams, as long a you do not become obsessed with them.
And as for her, if she didn't want to become famous and known all over tha Intahweb, she shouldn't have started to cosplay in the first time. And be as good at it as she is.

Argh. Why keep bothering Zero?

It's not as if it's going to change anything. People simply do not get the difference in the subforums. Why? I'm not even going to bother explaining. Those of you that catch my drift know what I mean. And no, it's not because the difference isn't clear or they are too much alike, silly.

On top of that, this guy's already done it twice before.

Here

And Here

Alhexx even pointed it out to him. I quote "Wrong Forum". Hmm, wonder what that means.

19
Well maybe jari coming in and pointing out grammatical errors in your post (just a joke!!).

As you may have noticed (probably not though considering your post) Jari has left Qhimm.com. He has erased his profile, meaning all his old posts are still there and show up under his name, however they turn up as Guest-posts now. So, slim chance he'll come and point at or correct anything.

@Lt. Spiro: Shit happens all the time, sometimes it comes in large quantities. Only thing left to do is clean it up and move on. There's always something good in the future.

20
First of all I would like to ask you to please still post your ideas on this matter, being an American citizen. I think it's interesting and worth discussing. So, if you would, thanks.

I knew I'd get reamed out by YOU, if I did it. And hell, I didn't even post anything. I didn't mean to imply how great the country is at large, but how great it is to me as an individual.

Do not take Jari's post as a personal attack. (Why do people always do this?)
He has a "slightly different view" on the whole situation than you and is being rather straightforward, but that shouldn't be reason for you to not post your ideas, right?

But I said it once, I don't want to hear it. Little that did me, as it's already been posted...why do you insist on doing this? You know as well as I that regardless of what you say, it won't change my mind any.

I do not understand why you wouldn't want to hear it. You are "defending" a government that is hated by many, many people all over the world, so reactions to it might just be that bit heavier than normal.
Also, saying that it won't change your mind anyway, it doesn't have to. That's not, contrary to what many people think, the main goal of a discussion. The goal is to explain your views and point out why you support them, so that your counterparts might understand why you do. That doesn't mean either side has to be convinced of the "truth".

If you simply do not want to hear it because you do not want to, you should've refrained from posting in the first place. No offence.

So, if you would post, that'd be nice.

21
I don't think it's shocking at all, I believe hilarious is the word. Bad lyrics, bad singing and even worse asian-english pronunciation.

I also think it's a typical example of stereotypes. Bush likes to make Kim-Jong-Il look bad in any way he possibly can without making it too obvious, and these guys, well they're just a little bit less sensitive. Also, when you say that it's very true, yes and no.

First of all, yes. It is true in the sense that they do have a point when asking why they aren't allowed to say what they want. America, as well as any other country, does not have the right to tell any country what to do, or in this case what that country can say or not say. The "truth" in this is, that America has the nasty habit of doing so, or in any case making a big fuss about it, nonetheless. And, put in a crude and simple way, going to war over things like this.

On the other hand, no. The thing is America is, AFAIK, not explicitly saying Korea cannot say or think things. They are merely warning them that if they actually carry out some of things they are speaking of (in American stereotypes "threatening to do"), Korea will have to face the consequences, whatever that may be. And, let's be honest, North-Korea is not what one would call the most democratic free state on the planet. There are definitely things "wrong" there. However, one could argue that the land of the free and the home of the brave isn't exactly what claims to be either...

This particular subject has been the subject of many interesting discussions and many more to come. One of which may start to unfold right here.  :-)

I have another gf who is way way better than her (better looking, more fun, actually sane)

Well then, according to the rules, she has to be stupid. Why? Because those are the rules.

A woman can only have 2 of the 3 following qualities:

1. She's smart
2. She's good-looking
3. She's not mentally-instable.

Women that have all 3 qualities do not exist. If you think you've found one, she's tricked you.

Your girlfriend applies for number 2 and 3, which means she's lacking number 1. Sorry to be one to inform you of this...

 :-P

24
Just my two cents.

I really have to discourage buying any portable Harddisk music player through Ebay or alike sites. You just never know what you're gonna get. It might seem to work in the beginning, but the battery may suck, or part of the disk is broken or there are lines in the screen. Just don't buy things like these through Ebay. Buy them new, otherwise there's a really big chance you might be very disappointed after some time. Only other option is to buy through companies that fix broken ones and re-sell them.

Also, like said before, Ipod is great (I own one) but not the very best you can get. When I bought mine it was, nowadays there are better ones, such as the IAudio for example. No, it's not enough space, just as an example. So, think carefully about what you want to buy.

As far as those pop-up things go, Covarr was right in naming it, since it is supposed to be the fastest way to get a free Ipod. Again like said before these things never ever work.

And don't mind Sad Jari.  Just use commas and periods, could ya?  It will save us all a huge headache.

Sad Jari is right. I mean, I've counted more than twenty "errors" in the first post and it is rather difficult to understand this way. I can understand someone' s English is not perfect, however punctuation is something learned at elementary school, so that should be possible.

And, be honest, it makes posts so much easier to read. Right?

About the wrong forums. Well, now you know in which forum to post threads like these.  :-)
